Guest Col city fan Posted 13 May 2014 Posted 13 May 2014 He spent close to £100 million last summer and when he left they were 7th and had lost 5-0 against Liverpool and 6-0 against Man City. He lost the dressing room at both Chelsea and Tottenham and it's no surprise both clubs did better when he left them. Spot on as usual. Close to 100 million on THAT squad.. unreal, literally indefensible
Soar Fox Posted 13 May 2014 Posted 13 May 2014 Spurs shouldn't have got rid of Harry Redknapp. His last season at Tottenham he guided them to 4th and only because of unusual circumstances they didn't get champions league football. He left them with a group of exciting players who played good football, who were probably 2 or 3 players away from being realistic title challengers. They then get rid of him got in AVB who guided them to 5th sold their best player and wasted £100 million on average players. They are probably now a good few years away from being title challengers. If anything they have regressed since Harry Redknapp left.

The Horse's Mouth Posted 13 May 2014 Posted 13 May 2014 Even though I despise everything about Arry', I'd tend to agree. I think flirting with the England job may have been his downfall.
wakeyfox01 Posted 13 May 2014 Posted 13 May 2014 AVB didn't spend a penny. It was Levy and Baldini who wasted the Bale money last summer

Remember that Redknapp was clear in third place and fell away to fourth then Chelsea won the cup, Spurs should've had third wrapped up and no issue. Same with AVB, was relatively comfortable in 4th then lost his way and ended up 5th.
m00nie Posted 13 May 2014 Posted 13 May 2014 AVB had the best win percentage as Spurs manager, agreed a total joke of an appointment . thought it was said TS had teh best win % ??

Will the bills they had under him Champions League football had to be achieved.

Will the bills they had under him Champions League football had to be achieved. But he managed them to a champions league position. It's only because of what happened with Chelsea that they didn't get Champions league football. I don't know what the finances were like when Arry was there but I'm sure as a club they were in a better state when he left than they are now.

I don't know what the finances were like when Arry was there but I'm sure as a club they were in a better state when he left than they are now. He was unlucky and he wasn't. They were in the title race in February and went on a terrible run to finish fourth. They shouldn't have been in the position to get done over by Chelsea. A lot of Spurs fans think he underachieved with that side in hindsight, he had the best defence around and Bale and Modric pulling the strings in midfield. It's a mystery how they managed to finish below Arsenal that season.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 14 May 2014 Posted 14 May 2014 The issue here seems to be the reputation of AVB when coming in to Chelsea. He was the new Pep, the new Fergie, the new Mourinho etc and quite clearly this was wide of the mark. I don't think anyone really knows if he's a really good manager or not yet, he hasn't been given time at any club, but if you believe what you read then he was sacked both times for other, valid reasons. He's sh*t imo, but could be proved wrong down the road.
Nalis Posted 14 May 2014 Posted 14 May 2014 Oddly enough, I reckon Sherwood would do a decent job in Spain or Italy with his managerial style (and teams style of play). He'd never leave England tho.
