I have been given a laptop by work and it's running Vista (which I have never used), can anyone tell me how or if there is a way of turning off the mouse pad (or whatever its called) so it doesn't keep clicking me in to pages I don't want to go into!?

Any help (if you can understand the above) would be appreciated.

Ok, Microphone/Sound problem

I'd been using my Audio Input to record some sound from my pc, changed it to Stereo Mix in the sound panel etc.

However, now I can't seem to record anything

Mp Laptop doesn't seem to pick up and sound from either a microphone or the stereo mix, but I don't think I changed any settings, but is there a way to reset it all? I changed the sound scheme back to windows default, but I don't think that's it.

Much Thanks :D

Bump?

The mouse options can be changed by going via:

Start > Control Panel > Mouse

This should then open a window with all the options for the mouse! Do you want to turn the touchpad off completely or stop it from clicking? Not sure if either is possible off the top of my head but one tab in that window should be associated with the touchpad driver and it should have a button for its settings. Have a look through and see if anything relates to what you need!

Have you ensured the device is enabled? If you right click the sound icon and select recording devices and then properties. Ensure the Device Usage is set to enabled. If so, then just check through the other options along the different tabs to see if anything needs to be enabled etc.

Not sure otherwise... :dunno:

Delete the mousepad driver? :P

Delete the mousepad driver? :P

Might not be that effective as Windows will look to automatically install the driver next time the laptop restarts - I think anyway, haven't tried myself!

Ok so rather than uninstalling, just disable?

Most of the time partitions are used to have recovery stuff in them. If you have a recovery dvd though, you wont need it. Is it vista? If so use this website.

http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/02/16/how...n-windows-vista

Ok I've tried this, it appears to have the option to reduce or expand the partitions. It lets me reduce the E drive but when I come to expand the C drive it's greyed out.

I've read some additional notes on this from further down the page but my pc doesn't mirror what they say will be there/happen.

Any further ideas welcomed.

These ones can be tricky, and depending on your version of Windows, but you could look around these parts:

Sounds and audio devices -> Sounds -> Sound Scheme -> Windows Default

Vista: Control panel -> sound -> sound -> Theme: Windows default

If that won't work, I would simply try to remove the sound driver, and let it reinstall itself.

Device Manager -> Sound, Video and Game Controllers -> right click sound card -> uninstall.

Restart PC.

EDIT: Sorry, I saw Hitesh had really pointed out these things allredy.

Re-installing the sound driver worked :)

I should have tried that before really... but never though to do it because it was playing sound fine, just not picking it up.

Thanks :D

Er, quick query about downloading files in Firefox (v 3.0.13) that I hope someone may be able to help with.

When I go to download any type of file (other than Word) I get a pop up box asking 'What should Firefox do with this file' then the options

  • Open with (browse)
  • FlashGot
  • Save file
  • (and a check box to 'do this automatically from now on')

This is all good. However if it's a Word file I'm not getting this popup - it's just automatically downloading it, which is a pain in the arse at times. I'm sure somewhere along the line I've inadvertently changed the settings for what it does with Word files, but does anyone know how to change it back so I get the popup options back?

Hope that makes some sense?

Hoping someone can help with this.

Just bought a new netbook which I want to connect to the same wireless network my PC is on. I've set the TCP/IP Properties the same as on my PC (obtain an IP address automatically, preferred DNS 192.168.1.1) but it won't connect. When I set the IP address to 192.168.1.something it says it's connected but then disconnects after about two seconds every time.

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a router security issue, Fez. It is your router, right? Which make, model? What security settings does it use?

Are you sure your new netbook is configured to have the right security credentials for the router? Even if the router says it is 'unsecured' it might have hardware restrictions, whereby it refuses connections to devices which it doesn't already recognise.

My Norton free trial virus scanner ran out the other day so I changed to AVG. Now I keep getting pop ups.

I've given the computer a full scan, used c cleaner and downloaded and scanned with spybot search and destroy, but I still keep getting the pop ups.

Any suggestions?

A stab in the dark is that your trying to install a 64bit update thing on a 32 bit pc, or the other way round. :dunno:

Stop visiting the porn sites, now...:D

Download these programs as well, Malware bytes and super anti spyware. Check programs that start up on c cleaner as well and disable ones that look like they shouldnt be there. (ie XXXfun etc) Also try running all those programs in safe mode.
