Seems like you're not the only one, Microsoft has a page for this here

Try "alternative steps" half way down the page.

Sadly this does not help :(

Can't get my pc to start (Vista Ultimate 64-Bit)

Starting normally, it goes past the windows loading screen, then blank

If I try to start in safe mode it freezes at:

Loaded: \Windows\SysWOW64\Drivers\AVGIDSErHr.sys

Ok, so eventually this started randomly on last known good config, and I just deleted the driver, no problems.

Now, I'm having the same problem again from another AVG driver from the System32 folder.

Any way I can get in and delete the file without starting windows? I think it needs AVG wiping and re-installing.

Thanks :)

I believe this is meant to say Keys are acting as shortcuts for desktop. Fix please if understood?

I think it's something to do with having the Narrator on. Get it sometimes at work.

Try this :)

Thanks for the effort. Had a look but it didnt work. Then remembered that i could restore the computer, so did that. Dont know why anyone would ever want that on their computer. You cant do anything involving writing whilst thats on. Stuff just starts popping up all over the place.

Check sound options for Internet?

Or check sound options for computer. The sound for the Internet application may have been turned off or gone right down.

First of all i must stress that i'm a complete duffer when it comes to computers, so please bear this in mind!

I've recently been having problems viewing videos online. I've been trying to watch the highlights of the last City game on bbc i player and Foxes player and it plays about 2 seconds, then freezes, then another couple of seconds, then freezes again etc etc.

It said on the bbc i player that i had "insufficient bandwidth" so i changed to the lower bandwidth setting but it didnt improve.

I've got the latest Adobe Flash Player installed. Nothing has changed regarding my service provider, computer specs etc and i never used to experience this problem.

Please help. :(

I appreciate that but i want to know what's causing the problem in the first place. I just watched the goals from Saturday (courtesy of Davie G  ) and the buffering process took about 10 minutes!!! It used to take a matter of seconds.

I'm confused. :dunno:

Your ISP might have throttled your connection? Do you use it heavily? Look out and see if your on a fair use policy. Are you running a torrent program in the background?

I don't use the internet heavily, and very rarely download anything. I'm not running a torrent program in the background, in fact i only tend to have one or two things open at one time.

Whos your internet provider and how long has it been going on?

When did you last clear out your temporary internet files etc?

Theres a site on the net where you can see if they are doing any works on your exchange at the moment. Is general surfing slow?

Virgin Media can suck my ever-browning and rapidly-drooping appendage: my connection gets throttled throughout each and every day.

Sky are shortly to be the beneficiaries of my disgust.

Them and Lollipop Ladies. I'm going to buy them more lollipops.

Ok, I've found out that when I try to boot my computer, after the loading screen it hangs for about 10 mins then gives me the logon screen.

However, it's now running ridiculously slow, and takes forever to do anything.

I've removed AVG and It's no better, any suggestions?

Whats your CPU running at?

When did you last clear the dust out of your heat sync?

How big is your user profile?

Run malwarebytes, the system32 folder is usually where nasty things hangout

Try this

Start - Control Panel- Automatic Updates,

Turn off the "Automatic" radio button and click on "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them"

Hope this helps

Also try rebooting your router (if you have one) and modem. This will force a refresh of your IP address.

I'd checked temperatures and everything, and I clean my computer out regularly, it was spotless inside. Ran SpyBot and cleaned some stuff off, then it had some automatic updates for me (Vista Ultimate x64)

Anyway, since these have installed it seems to be running fine, so I don't know what was wrong, but it's fine now :)

Edit: Forgot to mention, this wasn't a gradual thing either, it just suddenly went from being lightening fast to taking quarter of an hour to boot.
