I'd checked temperatures and everything, and I clean my computer out regularly, it was spotless inside. Ran SpyBot and cleaned some stuff off, then it had some automatic updates for me (Vista Ultimate x64)

Anyway, since these have installed it seems to be running fine, so I don't know what was wrong, but it's fine now :)

Edit: Forgot to mention, this wasn't a gradual thing either, it just suddenly went from being lightening fast to taking quarter of an hour to boot.

I know I had those problems with XP on both mine and my wife's computers and changing the Windows update situation fixed it.

Okay.....

I've deleted all temp internet files, cookies etc.

Ive ran a cleanup program through and done that defragmentation thingy.

I've done a system restore.

Ive rebooted my modem.

And it still won't bloody work!!!! :banghead:

I'm off to get a large hammer to see if that can solve the problem. <_<

Then it's time to call your ISP support and get them to troubleshoot it. It may be their problem and if not at least you have eliminated that issue.

Looks like posting a message on Tiscali's forum here might also get someone's attention

Oh and one more thing make sure your modem input cable is tight on the modem and where it comes into the house.

It would appear I've got a virus in my system.

Something called 'Alpha Antivirus' keeps popping up every few seconds, informing me of the malicious ways it's attacking my system, and apparently it pops up saying something along the lines of 'you have a virus. You need to download this to destroy it', and in downloading that it gives you loads of viruses. I've followed various methods of destroying it from a google search, including finding+deleting the processes and registry things, and even used the 'Killbox' to seemingly get rid of it.

But when I restarted, it came back up again. No idea what to do now, or how to combat the virus. But it's starting to really piss me off.

Oh, and I can't just do a full reboot/restore because my cd drive doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

Run HijackThis to take out all unwanted start up items and processes. If you're lucky the virus should be here so it will stop affecting you but you still need to take it out even if it's disabled now. Run CCleaner on all the computer accounts (if the strain of virus is bad then it will close this as it realises you are trying to remove it. if this happens boot into safe mode and do this)

Once CCleaner has been ran download MALWARE BYTES and then update it, do a quick scan (as you've ran ccleaner to remove all the crap it should only take around 5 minutes) this should find some infections and then remove them. Reboot PC. With your anti virus eg. AVG or Norton update it then run a full system scan. Reboot. Job done.

HijackThis : http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-Hijack...4-10227353.html

CCleaner : http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup220.exe

MalwareBytes : http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-...4-10804572.html

ComboFix : http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

If they start closing down because the virus knows that you're trying to remove it then reboot in safe mode and try running them. If the files still don't open, then get ComboFix and run that. If it won't run you'll have to rename the file to something like "DB11isgreat.exe" and then run it. If this doesn't work and they still don't open then you'd could take out the hard drive, put it in another computer as a slave and then boot it up. As it's the slave it won't boot up to this hard drive but you can still access it from the computer. After this, tell the working computer to scan the other hard drive.

Finally, if you don't have any anti virus, download and run AVG. If you do have anti virus, run this now.

AVG : http://download.avg.com/filedir/inst/avg_f...stb_en_8_26.exe

Download Malware Bytes. That should get rid of it although when my brothers laptop had a virus the virus closed it down. You should be alright though.

Use ComboFix so that doesn't happen.

Does anyone know of any good video editing software for my laptop. Unfortunately I don't have a Mac so can't use IMovie. I use Windows Movie Maker at the moment but get the feeling that it's not too great. Is there anything available that's cheap/free to download?

Thanks!

Haven't used it but there is one I know of: Wax

Also, you can get "free" ones but not totally legal...

Ok, so I added a second harddrive to my pc, via SATA.

Plugged it in, formatted it etc., installed programs on it, worked fine

Then, one day it packed up, couldn't see it at all. So I gave it back to the mate that sold it to me, he put it in his pc, works fine. Bring it home, plug it in, works fine.

Turn my computer off, turn it back on and poof it's gone. Taken it out and back in again, still nothing.

Help?

I have had my pc four years now and am fed up really, its a bit slow and that, so not only am I buying some new RAM, but I also want a new processor.

Currently, I am running the AMD athlon 64 processor but want the AMD phenom processor and I have chose my motherboard and that but I need help from here....

Can I take my current processor out of my motherboard and put it in a new motherboard, will it still work :S? Or will it not work because I have removed it and put it in a new motherboard?

(I know about thermal paste and that)

It's all enabled, because it worked before. It just randomly decides to stop working :S

You changed the SATA cables - they might be the faulty part or might even be your mobo!

Tried all that, swapped cables, ports etc.

Got my primary HDD and my dvd drive plugged in through SATA and I've had no problem with them...

View the source code of the page and then scroll down through the HTML until you find where abouts the image you want is. Then copy the link of the image, which is in a <img src="link"> format and then get the text, enter in browser, and save it.

This is an alternative method but the two above mine are simpler.
