My Norton free trial virus scanner ran out the other day so I changed to AVG. Now I keep getting pop ups.

I've given the computer a full scan, used c cleaner and downloaded and scanned with spybot search and destroy, but I still keep getting the pop ups.

Any suggestions?

avg what?

maybe the version u have dont block pop ups

i just looked at the avg site, i cant see anything written in it about it blocking pop ups, although most of the AV dont

there should be a pop up blocker with your browser, have a google and see if yours is turned on

I already had the google toolbar. It doesn't matter it seems to have stopped now, but for the previous 2 days it was a real pain in the arse.

I thought you meant virus pop ups! :D

Sounds like a router security issue, Fez. It is your router, right? Which make, model? What security settings does it use?

Are you sure your new netbook is configured to have the right security credentials for the router? Even if the router says it is 'unsecured' it might have hardware restrictions, whereby it refuses connections to devices which it doesn't already recognise.

It's a Netgear DG834G. Tried disabling the firewall etc, still the same problem.

Can't log in to MSN.

Get the Error Code 8000401a. It's the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, and I've tried the solutions on the MSN forums but they didn't seem to work.

Any tech wizards that have had this problem before and solved it?

After reading some stuff through google, seems like the first choice would be a reinstall of Messenger...

Yeah and then I said it was working fine the morning after.

But the night before that, it wasn't.

The way you put it was as if it did work in the morning, but it doesn't now.

Okay. But if you look at the dates, the problem was on the evening of the 27th. And working fine the next morning.

Can't get my pc to start (Vista Ultimate 64-Bit)

Starting normally, it goes past the windows loading screen, then blank

If I try to start in safe mode it freezes at:

Loaded: \Windows\SysWOW64\Drivers\AVGIDSErHr.sys

In Outlook Express anybody know how to create one of those emails that automatically replies if I’m away??

I.e. ‘I’m out of the office on business until 10th October 2009 etc’

Has anyone had that horrible google / msn redirect virus that seems to know almost every security programme and disables them? And if you have had it, have you had any luck on getting rid of it? My laptop appears to be buggered!

Yep (well I've not had it but I've had to remove it from PCs).

Run HijackThis to take out all unwanted start up items and processes. If you're lucky the virus should be here so it will stop affecting you but you still need to take it out even if it's disabled now. Run CCleaner on all the computer accounts (if the strain of virus is bad then it will close this as it realises you are trying to remove it. if this happens boot into safe mode and do this)

Once CCleaner has been ran download MALWARE BYTES and then update it, do a quick scan (as you've ran ccleaner to remove all the crap it should only take around 5 minutes) this should find some infections and then remove them. Reboot PC. With your anti virus eg. AVG or Norton update it then run a full system scan. Reboot. Job done.

HijackThis : http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-Hijack...4-10227353.html

CCleaner : http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup220.exe

MalwareBytes : http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-...4-10804572.html

ComboFix : http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

If they start closing down because the virus knows that you're trying to remove it then reboot in safe mode and try running them. If the files still don't open, then get ComboFix and run that. If it won't run you'll have to rename the file to something like "DB11isgreat.exe" and then run it. If this doesn't work and they still don't open then you'd could take out the hard drive, put it in another computer as a slave and then boot it up. As it's the slave it won't boot up to this hard drive but you can still access it from the computer. After this, tell the working computer to scan the other hard drive.

Finally, if you don't have any anti virus, download and run AVG. If you do have anti virus, run this now.

Been trying to access my work emails all day but every time I log onto the site I get the following message:

Network Error (gateway_error)

An error occurred attempting to communicate with an HTTP or SOCKS gateway.

The gateway may be temporarily unavailable, or there could be a network problem.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

I've never had a problem in the past, but it's been like it all day. Is it likely to be a problem at my end, or theirs?

When I left click on the mouse nothing happens. I hear the mouse clicking so I don't think it's the mouse. Could this have been disabled somehow?

Hi folks,

I downloaded IE 8 (i use firefox, but need ie for microsoft updates etc), when i try to install, it wont work, then it puts a troubleshooter on my desk top, that unfortunately doesnt help and it still doesnt run.

I decided to uninstall and reload IE7, but it wont load that, as it says that i have an updated version of IE installed. I tried uninstalling IE8 and it wont uninstall (grrr i hate micrsoft) :@

I tried an alternative uninstaller (revuninstall), but that cant get rid either.

any help/suggestions gratefully accepted. :)

Seems like you're not the only one, Microsoft has a page for this here

Try "alternative steps" half way down the page.
