Bought my first race style bike, having it put together in Halfords this coming week. Need to have it up and running in an efficient state asap because I'll need it mainly for the commute to work. Haven't ridden in 3+ years.

While I don't intend to go all in with the lycra clad fart sniffing cyclemaniac society just yet, I still have to make sure my bike is trued with all the gears balanced right and the nuts & bolts torqued to the appropriate pressure. Will moaning at Halfords mechanics be worth my time or do I have to figure this all out myself/take it to a decent shop?

Visit your local bike shop and they can also make sure the bike fits you ok. Can’t remember how much a bike fit costs but it’s 100% worth it

Was a pretty serious mountain biker a few years ago but not done much recently.

Bike industry went mental during covid and looks like the arse has fallen out a bit since.

Need to get back out there this summer.

Pretty much the whole industry doubled down during COVID and so many ballsed it it.

For a company like chain reaction to go just shows really they were huge before.

Bike prices are probably right now as they were massively over inflated for a while.

This is the problem with Leicestershire it's not exactly blessed with altitude. I work in Tamworth and there is a few trials that people have built in Hopwas woods so it's good for a blast around after work (when it is light enough) , but mainly go to Cannock, east ridge and forest of dean.

However with not going the football any more I intend to get out and go a few different places.

I also need to sell my old ebike but the second hand market is a nightmare so might just keep it as a spare.

Any Leicestershire tips for a second hand bike shop? Don't want to spend me more than about £150 on hybrid / mountain bike.

eBay or similar is your best bet.

First ride in a while yesterday, really enjoyed it.

Ordered a new titanium gravel bike through cycle to work scheme the other week.

It feels weird though, the roadie I've been riding for the last 10 years was 2nd hand off an old boy for £200 and I've had a lot of fun on it.

This one is 10x that which does feel a bit strange, but I will get good use out of it and honestly I can't wait to have something that is good quality and has a bit more versatility.

My new baby.

I'm definitely a little out of practice as I don't do much winter riding but I'm looking forward to a summer with plenty of rides on it.
