Rincewind Posted 30 September 2014 Posted 30 September 2014 Easy Star Crossbar Lovers Think of it like a bunch of City and Forest fans. One City bloke falls in love with a girl on Tinder only to find out she is a Forest fan. The other members of the supporters do not like it. The City fans believe that the fan can do a lot better than a Championship level fan. There are a couple of arguments and the bloke is warned not to meet again but they do and decide o elope, The heads find out and decide to humt them down. A kindly Derby fan takes pity on the couple and allows them to stay at his place. The City fan having had a tough and stressfull day takes a couple of sleeping pills, The Forest fan having dozed wakes up to find her lover out of it and being a Forest fan thinks he has done himself in so she grabs the pill box and takes a handful then the City fan wakes up and does the same. The next day they are found entwined in each others naked bodies. The leaders of the fans have a meeting and agree to be friends and meet after every City V Forest game. After 10 years though City were still in the PL and Forest were in Div 2 so they never did have that pint. The End

leicsmac Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Something for today. Two MinutesFor two minutes silence fallsAcross busy squares and sombre hallsFor two minutes a country bows its headLost in thought for those long deadFor two minutes people pauseAnd wonder in quiet on a common causeFor two minutes the bells will tollWith the notes of freedom not yet stoleFor two minutes reflect on blood, loss and painSo that now we may say, "Never Again."For two minutes keep in mindThose who Death chose to leave behindAnd for two minutes, forever let it be knownTo guarantee our future, they willingly gave their own.Lest We Forget.

Ken,English was never my strongpoint especially when you had to break down a piece of work and discuss. Was the bloke taking a shot aiming for the dove, missed and hit the child?
Rincewind Posted 18 November 2014 Posted 18 November 2014 Ken,English was never my strongpoint especially when you had to break down a piece of work and discuss. Was the bloke taking a shot aiming for the dove, missed and hit the child? I take it the comment was not 100% serious. Although I do tend to put unusual slants in my work sometimes. Poetry has a lot of imagery. The dove represents the time between peace has been agreed and the conflict starts again which can be never ending. A little pessimistic I know but that is how it seems to me sometimes with war.

Vlad the Fox Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 The Journey by Rabindranath Tagore The morning sea of silence broke into ripples of bird songs; and the flowers were all merry by the roadside; and the wealth of gold was scattered through the rift of the clouds while we busily went on our way and paid no heed. We sang no glad songs nor played; we went not to the village for barter; we spoke not a word nor smiled; we lingered not on the way. We quickened our pace more and more as the time sped by. The sun rose to the mid sky and doves cooed in the shade. Withered leaves danced and whirled in the hot air of noon. The shepherd boy drowsed and dreamed in the shadow of the banyan tree, and I laid myself down by the water and stretched my tired limbs on the grass. My companions laughed at me in scorn; they held their heads high and hurried on; they never looked back nor rested; they vanished in the distant blue haze. They crossed many meadows and hills, and passed through strange, far-away countries. All honor to you, heroic host of the interminable path! Mockery and reproach pricked me to rise, but found no response in me. I gave myself up for lost in the depth of a glad humiliation ---in the shadow of a dim delight. The repose of the sun-embroidered green gloom slowly spread over my heart. I forgot for what I had traveled, and I surrendered my mind without struggle to the maze of shadows and songs. At last, when I woke from my slumber and opened my eyes, I saw thee standing by me, flooding my sleep with thy smile. How I had feared that the path was long and wearisome, and the struggle to reach thee was hard!
Buce Posted 10 April 2015 Posted 10 April 2015 When The Tigers Broke Free. It was just before dawn One miserable morning In black '44. When the forward commander Was told to sit tight When he asked that his men be withdrawn. And the Generals gave thanks As the other ranks Held back the enemy tanks For a while And the Anzio bridgehead Was held for the price Of a few hundred ordinary lives. And kind old King George Sent Mother a note When he heard that Father was gone. It was, I recall In the form of a scroll With gold leaf and all. And I found it one day In a drawer of photographs Hidden away. And my eyes still grow damp To remember his majesty signed with his own rubber stamp. It was dark all around There was frost on the ground When the tigers broke free. And no one survived From the Royal Fusiliers, Company C. They were all left behind Most of them dead The rest of them dying. And that's how the High Command Took my daddy from me.
