The Missing

I'm not sure if I'm happy with the ending or not. The death bed confession felt a bit rushed, but I can't work out if I like the fact it ends without you really knowing if Olly dies or not. You never see his body in the house they take him to, and the gangster doesn't say he if he actually killed him, just that he got rid.

My two thoughts on a pretty decent series:

1) The ending was very Memento-esque - where the Dad's sole reason for living now finding his 'son' and will keep finding him anywhere. I quite liked it. One parent accepted her son was dead and 'moved on'. The other could never accept.

2) I personally believe a better (if not more controversial) ending would be no resolution whatsoever, where they never found out what happened to the boy - Much more realistic i.e. Ben Needham, Madeleine etc.

I likeclosure, now I will never know what happened. And that kills me.

Next thing you know you'll be in Russia looking for an answer too.

But we do know what happened.

You know what Alain said on his death bed, but you don't know if Olly actually died. You never actually saw his dead body and all the gangster confirmed to the Mayor was that he had got rid of him. Didn't say he was buried, just gone away.

Fantastic series.

I think you need to open your mind a bit re the ending.

The producers have made you think he is 99% sure he was dead (they arent going to show a murdered child on bbc1 even after the watershed) but the bit at the start was very clever giving you hope he was alive in Russia.

The producers wanted you to either be in Tony's camp (never giving up and wondering if he was still alive) or his Mrs who has moved on with her life. Just a ''closure'' ending doesnt get the viewer thinking or discussing it with others.

Did anyone notice the significance of the fox through out the series? He had a teddy called mr fox, waved it out the window in the first epiosde. Tonys Mrs thought she had lost the teddy, and also she gave the teddy away to a local hospital. Didnt really give you a clue to the ending but clever how they dropped it in there.

Thought the chap who played Vincent Bourg was very good as was Nesbitt

Must be quite difficult taking up the role of Vincent Bourg, I also though he was good.
