Donut Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Where else do we realistically go from now on then given that doing a Southampton is that unlikely (and they've achieved nothing yet) I can't stand Sky I can't stand the bankrolling of clubs. I can't stand the way its ruined our national side. I can't stand the prices. The stupid kickoff times. I just really actually hate it. Back down to keep you happy? But on a serious note, building a better squad, winning more games, climbing the league more, serious attempts in the cups. Is success purely being in the champions league spots? We had mid table finished under O'Neill and serious runs in the cups. I defy anyone who was around at that time to call that boring or pointless.

I won't renew in any case I don't think. You don't need to be in the PL to have a cup run. Bradford have proved that before, and are doing so again. Beating Burnley last season virtually guaranteed us winning a trophy. We won't get a trophy for finishing 17th by beating them
Donut Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 I like top flight football. Unfortunately the PL is that at the minute. Probably always will be. But now we've 'competed'for a season we're not going to advance any further. I think disillusioned with the PL is what I am It takes TIME to advance. It takes patience. Would you say Swansea and Stoke have advanced further from when they first got promoted? of course they have. Stoke reached an FA cup final, played in Europe. Swansea won the league cup, played in Europe, Brought in Bony, made a huge profit. Wigan had a great run in the Premiership for a small club and won a cup. Of course you can progress. How many teams have won the Premier League? off the top of my head 5..........should everyone else give up?

Ideally Sky and the PL would go bust thus levelling out the financial playing field. The PL was shit hot in the 90s and early 00s but its got no better since then. Worse actually. More likely than that scenario is a breakaway European League which would at least make our top flight worth taking part in once again

Southampton did it.........They produced the worlds most expensive player and all of their assets, theyve gone from strength to strength Stupid kick off times meaning a game might kick off at 5:30 instead of 3? The national team has won one tournament, and had 2 semi finals in its entire history. Believe me, the England team were rubbish long before the advent of Sky, In decades likes the 70s and 80s where we didnt even qualify for tournaments. Without being obtuse- Yes. The ONLY measure of progress you are using is winning the whole thing. Its crude.

Do you remember talent like Scott Sinclair bring bought to warm the bench? Clubs want success and success yesterday due to the financial rewsrds. all the 'big' clubs are culpable in buying the next big foteign talent rather than nuturing their own. Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and now United under Van Gaal

What do you get out of following Leicester City? Do you think any Southampton fans right now are taking your pessimistic views? that theyre worried that a few years time theyll do a Leeds? christ if Leicester had the chance of getting in the top 4 with a quarter of the season left, i think id be on the brink of a heart attack with excitement, not thinking **** me were 20 points behind Chelsea. 9 seasons out of 10, watching Leicester must be utterly pointless for you.

Not really. Its taken 10 to get in tje PL again. Now we're here it seems pointless bar bragging rights
I blame Wellens Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Said it loads this season. As well as the obvious disappointment with our performance what has made it EVEN MORE frustrating is the fact that this league and the teams in it are ordinary at best. But would not want to be anywhere else.
Donut Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Not really. Its taken 10 to get in tje PL again. Now we're here it seems pointless bar bragging rights So what youre saying is, the 10 years of trying have enabled us to reach a pointless goal?
Donut Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Let me just get this straight, this is the basis of the negativity: You like the excitement of a push for promotion, but the thing that is driving the players on, the reward of promotion, is something you dont like. So in an ideal world, you would like the team to win enough games that the team maintains a championship spot, but lose enough games that they never go up. If the team did get promoted, ideally youd like to be there one season, and then be relegated, because theres nothing to achieve in the Premier League after having one season up there anymore, so its better to get relegated again. Am i following correctly? what have i missed?
The Year Of The Fox Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 So what youre saying is, the 10 years of trying have enabled us to reach a pointless goal?If you enjoy the PL and buy into its brand of course its not been pointless.I'm not trying to argue or make out I'm right like I say, I've reached a point where I'm that disillusioned with it I personally find it pointless.
shailen Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 It's all good and fun whatever league you're in when you're winning. Did not hear any complaints after the first 6 games or so. As soon as you start losing it becomes an issue. If we go on a losing run in the Championship, would those same people say they would prefer to be in League One. Ask me what I want. I want to see us become an established PL club, and then aim for Europe after that. It would be amazing, no matter how unlikely, to see us in the CL one day. That has to be the long term aim of every club in this division, no matter how unlikely

Soar Fox Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 I'll be honest I hate the premier league and everything that goes with it. I didn't even like the championship last season as it was boring winning every week. I much preferred being in the championship between 2004 and 2008. It was brilliant, new managers every 6 months, loan signing after loan signing coming in, 500 Rotherham fans taking the piss when they were beating us, the endless amount of talent we managed to sign from Scottish teams. If some peoples arguments for not wanting to be in the premiership because we'll never win it obviously weren't around in the MON days.

Soar Fox Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 And never a sniff of the evil Premier League monster. Happy days. Why would we want to get close to getting in the premiership? We were having a great time finishing 19th in the championship and drawing at home 0-0 with Colchester.

Proper football.
Guest Cujek Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 Premier league is 3 leagues in one, top 5 then 6 - 12 then relegation, the odd exception like Southampton this season, how the fa and the premier league must hate a small club doing well. Therem is far to much money involved now and its going up every time the tv rights are due again, any team going up are going to struggle, we are the prime example of that, record points total and walking the championship last season, 4 wins this one. It is in my opinion very sad how un competitive this league is, with the very dubious dealings of the likes of chelsea with their 200 plus players on loan and dual ownership of clubs, man city getting round ffp by employing players at other clubs and conviently loaning them back for a season, not to mention man utd being able to pay 6 million for a loan player and god knows how much on wages. the likes of us dont stand a chance really, if we do manage to stay up though we would be a lot more competitive next season.
ScouseFox Posted 14 February 2015 Posted 14 February 2015 i see both sides of the argument. if we go down but could guarantee that we'd come back up in the next 2 seasons i'd be ok with going down. no chance am i watching us spend another 10 years playing barnsley and bristol city tho. but i can see the argument for going down not being too bad. i reckon it must be ****ing horrible supporting newcastle/west ham/villa most the time. maybe a derby game each season, then a decent game against a big four side, then about 30 games that are just depressing, in the hope you get enough points on the board to stay up. then maybe have a crack at getting to the cup quarter final or something. and paying through the ****ing nose every time you do it. hell on earth. last season for us would've been more fun than any villa fan has had for a good 5 years, probably.

Of course its not exciting to finish 17th for survival each season. But you have to believe that you are good enough eventually to become a force in this league like those Stoke/Swansea/Soton...etc. Who is to say if we do go down we don't become a boring lower midtable team in the Championship, like 2004-2008. If we could replicate last season every time we were in the Championship, then fine, its okay to get relegated. However, we know from our own experiences and other teams, it isnt that straightforward. The likelihood is that we will struggle for x number of seasons, and I do not want this. The only way to guarantee PL football soon is to be in it. In terms of the cost, yes I do agree its expensive. I would like English football to adopt a similar stance to Germany where prices are ridiculously low. On the other hand, we are selling out week in week out, so from a demand point of view there is no point of the club reducing prices. There are more or less no empty seats.
