Guest Col city fan Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Said it before and I'll say it again. Drinkwater, James, Hammond, Cambiasso, King...you can't get a fag paper between em. None stand out over the others. Not one of them is clearly going to be our 'first choice' midfielder. We have the best record when Hammond has played but we desperately need a real quality midfielder. For me, that's clear to see. Yesterday's outcome was decided by a little bit of quality. A cool finish in a drab game.
Katy Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Drinkwater was playing well until he got injured again, maybe he wasn't quite ready to come back, we had no choice but he was fitter than Cambiasso and Hammond. Him and Kingy just don't fit together, not making excuses for him but maybe that's a reason. To say he's 'shit' though must be a joke, surely? Going from being player of the season to shit? I'm not having that. He also did a lot of organising yesterday, much more than Wes was doing. I think people being are being overly harsh.

Babylon Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 What we need is all our players available, we can't get by with a couple of fit midfielders every week and it seems like we've scrambled through most of the season trying to make do in that department because of one reason or another. We struggled away at Stoke with two in midfield and only got in the game when we went to a three, if we'd had the option available we'd probably have added an extra man to combat that at some point. But we had nobody who players in that position to step in and help. The arguing about Ulloa and Albrighton is fairly pointless and it seems to me (and a few others) that the problem was in the centre and there wasn't much we could do about it.
Dickov22 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 King was very poor. Agree but in his defence he was always going to struggle to impose himself against NZonzi and Whelan. We missed Matty James today. He's our strongest midfielder.
Bayfox Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 no way king and drinkwater as a partnership are up to this level. to play either you need a james or hammond to battle away. drinky has shown nothing this season a bit like vardy it seems he needs 12 months to adjust to a step up in quality.

Im sure Pearson knows that. He had no other option yesterday though.
Renart Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Ideally (without injuries) i'd like to start with the partnership of Hammond and Cambiasso, who (correct me if i'm wrong) haven't played togethor in a '442' style formation. Hammond mopping up and doing this thang, giving esteban the freedom to sit in the middle and control the game, hopefully adding creativity to the midfield which both drinky and king never offered today I agree with this. These two are our strongest option.
Father Ted Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Not one person has mentioned Matty James yet. He is our best suited centre midfielder at this level, combative, dynamic and true leadership qualities. Kings not good enough, why on earth we gave him a new 4 year contract I don't know, he's the weakest of all 5 in my opinion. James and Cambiasso/Hammond for me.
GingerrrFox Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 If you put Tom Huddlestone and Matty James as our midfield pairing we'd be comfortably out of the relegation places for me. He's in a team that is crying out for strikers and wingers and we are a team that are crying out for strength in the midfield combined with passing ability and vision. Those two together would be dynamite for me.
Countesthorpe Fox 1884 Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Midfield should be 4-2-3-1 Hammond Cambiasso James
Guest Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 playing a midfield 2 allows us to have 2 wingers. They are the players who are there to create.

They are the players who are there to create.?Look at the most creative teams in the Prem. Chelsea, Man City, Southampton for instance. All play with a three man central midfield including a DM. The Saints play with TWO defensive midfielders. We now have tough away games looming. If we stick with this 4-4-1-1 I fear we'll get exposed time and time again.

Someone said they were not creative enough. If we want creative CMs we wouldn't want 2 wingers otherwise we'd be killed on defence.
funkyrobot Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 I think we'll play 4-5-1 against man utd, Chelsea and Man city. Get the enforcer hammond in midfield with 2 out of James, cambiasso and drinky and play kramaric on his own up front and hope that the wingers and midfield can give him some support!
Bayfox Posted 18 January 2015 Posted 18 January 2015 Im sure Pearson knows that. He had no other option yesterday though. well if he knows it then maybe he should find an alternative. just a thought like. had no option. he started the season with king, dd , james and Hammond. did we really think that was a good idea? I rate the above but we needed quality in the summer.
