Rincewind Posted 1 March 2015 Author Posted 1 March 2015 Spent most of the day mucking about with the files for my book and had to wait in for a delivery for some books. I published the paperback the couldn't get the files to load right for the kindle. I have OpenOffice and it wasn't being accepted and PDF does not work well with it. Loaded it with RTF in the end but one poem had italics which could not be converted. I erased then retyped it. It then went missing on the file. Finished up doing it as standard text in Notepad after going through it and moving the text around. I sent it but it can be improved now I think I know what works. Will also resend files for the paperback version after noticing a couple of typos in the ones i received. Nothing major, I will still try and sell the copies i have.
bovril Posted 2 March 2015 Posted 2 March 2015 Nice one. I have a great deal of respect for anybody who puts their work out there.

Perhaps Ken could act as your agent?
Rincewind Posted 2 March 2015 Author Posted 2 March 2015 one of my poems fairies is featured on the poetry soup home page. they are listed a-z mine is in the 2nd group. think i have sorted my book out print and for kindle. not as i wanted it but a great improvement. received some books. a couple of errors but i can always resubmit. nothing major. If i do another book it will have my complete works plus a few guest poets so there hope for moose yet.
MooseBreath Posted 2 March 2015 Posted 2 March 2015 I would do anything to be a guest poet in one of your books ken.
Guest MattP Posted 2 March 2015 Posted 2 March 2015 I want a FT poetry book. Everyone has something to contribute.
Buce Posted 2 March 2015 Posted 2 March 2015 I want a FT poetry book. Everyone has something to contribute. I like this idea.
Rincewind Posted 2 March 2015 Author Posted 2 March 2015 not a bad idea at all. poems about Leicester. nothing offensive about players or manager though just experiences of following them. maybe a charity book?
Alf Bentley Posted 3 March 2015 Posted 3 March 2015 Agent Mrs. Alf was down at the Y Theatre tonight, undercover at a poetry reading. She found herself sitting next to some bouffant-haired old charmer who was offering round the fruit jellies, and was later selling a few poems. Apparently, he also won first prize in the raffle - and went home with "Vixen", the latest work by the lesbian (?) poetess who topped the bill. Mrs. Alf did wonder, though, whether the old charmer might have preferred the second prize - a bottle of Blue Nun, she reckons (and she doesn't spout bullshit, unlike me). p.s. I'll have one of your volumes off you at some point, Ken - I'll either collar you at that beer festival on the 14th, if you bring 1 or 2 volumes with you, or grab you in the King's.
Rincewind Posted 4 March 2015 Author Posted 4 March 2015 That book sounds better than I thought. I thought it would be a Mills and Boon type but the extract she read out was quite racey. She did say she was a little off beat and wierd. She was dressed like a bloke I must admit but never crossed my mind about her being lesbian, not that it matters to me.I sold one book. Don't know whether to order some more. I have had to resubmit with a couple of typo corrections. I have 3 left. Charging £5 now extra 50p towards p/p and 50p to Wishes 4 Kids Online £4. Is that fair? Not bothered about a huge profit but don't see why Amazon should get it all. I do get royalties but have to sell a few to make a difference. That guest poet was saying she spent years on writing about 7 novels then entered her first in a competition and was surprised when it won as it was the same book publishers had told her nobody would want to read it. Her advice was keep at it.

That guest poet was saying she spent years on writing about 7 novels then entered her first in a competition and was surprised when it won as it was the same book publishers had told her nobody would want to read it. Her advice was keep at it. I'd primed my Missus to look out for you, as I thought you might be there - and she ended up sitting next to you! She thought it was you, as your name was announced, but she wasn't sure. If I'd known, I'd have asked her to buy a volume off you. If you can order smallish volumes, I'd order a few more. I'll certainly buy one off you (I'll order online if I don't catch up with you in person on licensed premises soon) and I bet you'll sell a few more via contacts, online, FoxesTalk, poetry meetings etc. It was only my Missus' guess that the poetess was a lesbian. Likewise, matters not a jot to me - I'm just nosy about people. Good luck with your book(s). A better use of your time than most of us manage.
Rincewind Posted 4 March 2015 Author Posted 4 March 2015 she was wearing a tie coat and trousers so maybe gave that impression. not a bad looker though. wished i had let her have one of my books now in exchange. i will check to see if there are any typos in the docs for the books before ordering any more. I could sell the ones with typos for less if i can sell enough of the better ones first. If I order today or tomorrow i should get them in time for the BF. i wont be working wed and only from around 5 the other days.
MooseBreath Posted 4 March 2015 Posted 4 March 2015 Just to clarify, Alf sent his wife on a recon mission to check out ken, reported back that he's a bit of a charmer, and ken is saying she's a bit of a looker. Is this all code for Alf planning to fulfil his cuckold fantasies, with ken?
Rincewind Posted 4 March 2015 Author Posted 4 March 2015 no the guest poet was a bit of a looker. lucky I never read anything out. Just resubmitted my book files. Improvement. takes 24 hours for them to review. The book is also available on kindle and you can get apps for one.
Alf Bentley Posted 4 March 2015 Posted 4 March 2015 Just to clarify, Alf sent his wife on a recon mission to check out ken, reported back that he's a bit of a charmer, and ken is saying she's a bit of a looker. Is this all code for Alf planning to fulfil his cuckold fantasies, with ken? Not exactly. She chose to go to a poetry event and I advised her that Ken might be present. She unwittingly ended up sitting next to Ken, who kindly informed her where she could acquire some fruit jellies. He then won first prize in the raffle. The prize was a book by a female poet who was performing and who may or may not have been a lesbian (according to my wife) and/or a looker (according to Ken). Second prize in the raffle may or may not have been a bottle of Blue Nun.
Rincewind Posted 5 March 2015 Author Posted 5 March 2015 it was indeed a Blue Nun. The other prize was a chocolate bunny. Does your Mrs perform Alf/ (poetry)
Alf Bentley Posted 5 March 2015 Posted 5 March 2015 it was indeed a Blue Nun. The other prize was a chocolate bunny. Does your Mrs perform Alf/ (poetry) No, my Mrs does not perform (poetry), Ken, though she might have performed if she'd known that a chocolate bunny was on offer (probably not for a book of lesbian poetry, a bottle of Blue Nun or a few fruit jellies, however).
Rincewind Posted 6 March 2015 Author Posted 6 March 2015 The guest poet/author was Rosie Garland. She was a member of a post-punk band in the early 80's. The March Violets. Found a clip on YouTube. http://youtu.be/Qrr6sj1Ra2c

Found a clip on YouTube. http://youtu.be/Qrr6sj1Ra2c Blimey! I remember the March Violets from John Peel programmes about 30+ years ago. That Youtube clip was no better than OK, though they might have been on their way down by then, as it seems to be 1986. They reformed in 2010, according to Wikipedia
Rincewind Posted 6 March 2015 Author Posted 6 March 2015 just looked on her facebook page. she has one mutual friend and it happens to be someone with the same surname as me (no relative) who is a well known illustrator and children book writer. She looks younger than she is which I guess would be in her fifties if she was at Uni when the MV formed.1981
Rincewind Posted 8 April 2015 Author Posted 8 April 2015 How would this look framed? Sleeping Around The Politicians Way The LibDems have been kicked out of bed After five years the Tories have no need. They leave with a crooked back And a power related STD. UKIP do not want to share with Tories They want to go out on their own. The Tories prefer having single beds Before they set up together a home. SNP have turned their backs on Labour After a friendship well crafted. They wanted the affair to be platonic. Until they were well and truly shafted. Nobody wants to sleep with the Greens Who are regarded as quite mad. They are too friendly with commoners Which for a Government is bad. But if there is no clear winner The lure of number 10 is strong. A peck on the cheek and a smug smile That says it's all been a con. After sleeping arrangements are agreed And the cabinet rooms are booked Politicians will sleep soundly in their beds. And it's the electorate who will be ****ed.
