Rincewind Posted 29 January 2015 Posted 29 January 2015 What does everyone think of this idea? I am thinking of taking one of my poems 'Mother' and printing it on a suitable background the putting it in a frame to sell on Ebay. On my poetry site that I use 'poetry soup I can have poems placed on various backgrounds. I was als thinking of other ways of doing this like lannamenting The tricky thing is costing the product and finding out how much people will pay. I was also thinking of including a copy of my book. The pricing of course will depend on the quality of the frame and postage and the profit margin. Does anyone know what you would pay for a picture-framed message?

It's a bit of a how longs a piece of string question Ken. Poetry is a bit like art, tastes differ as will the value too each individual. For it to work well on eBay you will need two people who value it at a decent level and bid against each other. My advice is to buy a very cheap frame from a charity shop and paint it, keep your costs low and trial it. If it works you can invest in better frames. Good luck. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Also the poem in my opinion would be an ideal gift for Mothers day or a birthday. Imay try the cheap option as you suggest/
Rincewind Posted 30 January 2015 Author Posted 30 January 2015 This is the sort of thing I was thinking of with maybe a different picture.I would have to refine the image like centering the heading and poem. I may have two more poems that may e OK for this. The rest not so much.

Yes I was going to find another picture.Where I got it from have a bigger selection now. I used this one which I laminated and sent my mum for her birthday. Thanks for moving the posts I was not sure whether to start a new thread or not.I did not like invading TPH space but it was also selling stuff,

It must have been AOWW.
davieG Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 Perhaps you could invite people to send you a picture that is personal to them, no copy write issues then and would be unique.

Yes that may be an idea I could incorporate. Perhaps adding a line or to into the blurb saying that I am willing to use the buyers own personal pictures. But I do not want to do too much to start with. I may do two or three and see if any local craft/gift shops will take them. I'll sort out a better background for a start and get the lettering right. One step at a time.

How about becoming a street poet? There's been a guy outside Embankment tube station doing this for years, sort of like a busker I guess. Here's an interview with him....
Webbo Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 The more I think about this the more I think it's a good idea, as long as the printing and the frame is a decent quality. You won't make a fortune out of it but it could be a nice sideline. We'll make an evil capitalist out of you yet Ken.
bovril Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 Kramaric up front, Must be a better option, Than Vardy again.
purpleronnie Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 It's a good idea, you could also do poems for other family members...if you can that is. This sort of thing is popular thesedays, my sister has so many different writings adorning her house every wall is like a different chapter of a book. Not a fan myself, always been a bit of a minimalist. But give it a go, costs will be very low. Maybe try a few high street shops, work by a local poet would be welcomed i'm sure. And maybe it would be a good idea to learn to use an editing programme, if you incorporate photographs you want it to look professional. Kramaric up front, Must be a better option, Than Vardy again. Pretty good advice there Bov, take note Ken.
bovril Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 Wet Villa Park, Cup. The fragility of hope. Albrighton on bench?
Rincewind Posted 30 January 2015 Author Posted 30 January 2015 This is the latest picture. I am now wondering whether it is OK to use the pictures. But they were on the site available to download as greeting cards so I guess it should be alright. I think I'll pass on the street poet although I have done open mic's.

yorkie1999 Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 Mary had a little lamb She couldn't stop it gruntin She took it down the garden path And kicked it's little c***** You can have that one for free
Rincewind Posted 30 January 2015 Author Posted 30 January 2015 No offence but I think mine is a little more upmarket.
MooseBreath Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 I think this is a nice idea ken. I'll never say a bad word about people proactively trying to create opportunities for themselves. I think it's great. How about putting burger love against a picture of a burger and then going door to door selling it to independent fast food joints? They'll lap that shit up for sure.
Vlad the Fox Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 I'd probably drop the copyright to the very bottom of the page, you could then just put your name if you wished a couple of lines down from the last line of the poem. You will probably need to be careful about the copyright of images used. Have you got a good camera?

fleckneymike Posted 30 January 2015 Posted 30 January 2015 Not my cup of tea personally but here are some constructive suggestions I think using a red rose with hearts might allow the wrong connotation. Purples and pinks are more in keeping with the marketing of the day. Think about using a serif font too as that would appeal more to the type of person who'd buy this sort of product Just use your surname, Ken Duddle isn't as 'poetic' as simply 'Duddle'. Finally, and very pinickity, had you considered using a feminine ending somewhere in your third quatrain around your retrospective perspective?
