Guest CityFan 06 Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 Manchester United fan Charlie Holden passed away recently at the age of 15, and there is a 15th minute applause planned for today's game at Old Trafford in memory of him. Thought it was only right to share this to let people know, and to share this with more people to continue to make people aware. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/man-united-fans-plan-tribute-8545914
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 Very sad news. I hope we all join in this today
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 I won't be applauding, I'll be just concentrating on the game as usual. It's sad that a 15 year old lad has died but if we had a minute's applause in the minute of their age at death for every United fan that had died recently then we'd be clapping non-stop for 90 minutes. It has absolutely nothing to do with Leicester City. I'm convinced these things only happen because whoever proposes it wants to be able to claim responsibility for getting a whole stadium clapping simultaneously. The sooner this stupid fad dies out and we can get back to having proper tributes (a minute's silence) to the selected few who warrant it, the better.
Guest MattP Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 Freemans Wharfer spot on. These applauses are getting ridiculous.

Completely agree, yes it's sad someone so young has lost their life, but football supporters young and old up and down the country every day pass away, we can't have minutes applause for all of them.
NewquayFox Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 No age, hope the City fans respect the applause and no chanting....
NewquayFox Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 60 seconds of your life to respect the death of a child is a nice memory for the family, oh well enjoy the day if you folks don't respect it sadly.....
Guest Cujek Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 Sad news.... But where does this tribute thing stop? How are we supposed to know what other clubs are clapping for or holding a silence for? point in case is Newcastle, I had no idea what they was applauding until I got home and looked it up. If the opposition fans want to pay tribute that's up to them, but expecting us to join in is a bit much to ask. It seems to be a fashion at the moment, today at Hull vs Newcastle there will be the usual one from Newcastle and there will also be something from the Hull fans at 18 mins for some reason, its getting a little silly and devaluing the process of paying tribute.
Captain... Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 I don't think anyone is asking us to join in, just to make them aware of the why and not chant over their tribute, unless we score obviously.
Nalis Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 I don't think anyone is asking us to join in, just to make them aware of the why and not chant over their tribute, unless we score obviously. Was thinking the same thing. All these comments and the OP isn't even asking us to applaud...
NewquayFox Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 I think the OP is just letting folks know and not asking City fans to join in.....
Raj Posted 31 January 2015 Posted 31 January 2015 Op was only alerting city fans to ehays gonna happen as opposed to the newcastle FA cup game when none of us knew
Voll Blau Posted 1 February 2015 Posted 1 February 2015 Did this even happen? Think Vacamion nailed my position on this kind of thing back in March... Hooray! I get the chance yet again to the wheel out the phrase: POST-DIANA LIVERPUDLIANISATION OF OUR CULTURE and to lament the reality that the griefmongers will make you out to be worse than the devil if you don't join in with their ostentatious drip eyed mawkishness. I hate it. We used to have a stiff upper lip and get on with stuff. We used to keep our remembrance for a very few days a year. Let those directly affected commemorate it, if they want to, by all means. Shoving enforced grief down the rest of the country's throats is just wrong.
C.J Posted 1 February 2015 Posted 1 February 2015 I heard some applause but wasn't sure what it was for. maybe the scoreboard counting down from 45 confused most people? Anyway, I thought the atmosphere was rubbish yesterday. No pre-match build up whatsoever, just a back catalogue of songs from Manchester groups from the nineties. The PA made the Birch sound good.
