Is it the end for me?

Recommended Posts

Has my 40 plus year love affair with Leicester City and football come to an end? Can I go on grinning and bearing it all, isn't it supposed to be entertainment, a battle of skills and wits, played within rules developed and agreed over countless years.

Disillusioned does not begin to describe how I feel after today; at the moment there are but just a few dying embers left in my heart.

Today is a milestone in my support, it’s the first time ever that I’ve wanted to leave a football match at half-time, I can count on the fingers of one hand the times I’ve even considered the idea of leaving early. It’s the first time ever that I’ve not been interested in the other results, this from someone who likes to keep abreast of all the top flight English Leagues. I’m so disgusted with today that I couldn’t even listen to the results on the radio.

Well what about today?

QPR, if diving, cheating and play-acting is what you’ve sunk to in order to win a match then frankly you’ve reached the bottom of the cesspit of football. I’d be ashamed to be one of your supporters.

The Referee – should we call him that, inept, jobs worth that was suckered into ever trick that QPR could muster. Wasting more time on his own than QPR could’ve dreamt of managing. When will referees realise that they are officiating what is supposed to be entertainment, if they are doing their job properly they should be anonymous, we don’t pay good money to watch them. Dismissals should be the last resort, not the first and not as a result of some playacting and bowing to the pressure of a bunch of players hell bent on ruining the game. If he were a relative or close friend of mine I’d tell him to pack it in.

Leicester City – well do they understand that the game is first and foremost about teamwork, the collective strength that that brings, hopefully sprinkled with a little individual brilliance. That was 11, sorry 10 individuals out there today I could barely see one trace of working together as a team, ok there were one or two example of individual excellence. Should we be surprised with the increasingly bizarre team selections/positions that we see?

I can accept losing, I can accept some periods of poor play but football is taking the piss if it thinks that collective display today had anything remotely to do with football and to then expect people to pay significant sums of money to see it, well unless someone can relight those dying embers for me they will not being seeing much more of my hard earned cash, I’ll gladly give it to someone else or go and watch the kids on the local park.

Maybe speak to you all soon, I’m far too down at the moment.

Today was shocking, I expected a win but instead I got a defeat and a shambolic performance.

When you see a ref blowing his whistle every minutes, then taking ages to come to a decison added to a performance where we hardly put 2 passes together it is definatley depressing viewing.

I should be staying positive and looking ahead to the Brighton game but beating Brighton doesn't excite me at all :(

One of the worst games I've seen in a long time, sort it out Levein. More performances like this and you'll be out.

The way I see it is he has been a great appointment off the pitch, but still has much to prove on it.

Well said. I agree, and I hope he can do it. He needs some time to improve things, but lets give him some time and space eh?

Is it really worse than the period when these Managers were in charge.:unsure::( <_<

Gordon Lee (Jan 1991 - May 1991)

Came in as a short term option when David Pleat left the club in January 1991. Lee could have gone into the history books when he almost took City down into division 3, but it was happilly avoided

David Pleat (Dec 1987 - Jan 1991)

A thrilling appointment but it never happened for David Pleat at City. A patient board let the former Spurs manager stay at the club for over 4 years without bringing forward more than midtable positions in division 2

Bryan Hamilton (Jun 1986 - Dec 1987)

Hailed as a young promising manager prospect when he was lured away from Wigan to take charge at City. But it all ended in relegation after four seasons in the top flight. A former N Ireland international

Gordon Milne (Aug 1982 - Jun 1986)

Took charge at City after a long and find time as a manager of Coventry City. Took City up in 1983 and established Gary McAllister, Alan Smith and Gary Lineker as first team players at a very young age

Jock Wallace (May 1978 - Jul 1982)

He was a legend at Glasgow Rangers and came to City to take over a team that had just been relegated from the 1st division. He put together a very taleneted team, but decided to quit as City manager in 1982

Frank McLintock (Jun 1977 - May 1978)

Brought to the club with high hopes and great expectations, but his first job in management ended in a nightmare and relegation for City after some great years under Jimmy Bloomfield

What I find kind of off about Levein is that I've spoken to him at fair length about his aims at LCFC. One of them was to establish a settled side that the fans could identify with. This is something we have lacked for a while and something that is necessary for success, he clearly realises this - so why change the side around so much? Does Levein actually know what he wants?

I'm not getting on his back here... I'm just struggling to understand some decisions.

How do you get to speak to him? I would love an opportunity to do that; Did he spell out any 3 year plan?

My day today....

Left home at 10.00

Got into my seat at 14.24

Left after they scored to avoid the traffic on way home...

Home at 20.15

Piss take of a day, and I'm going Brighton game on tuesday night! WHAT AM I DOING?!?!?! :S

I know how you feel, I went to Vale Park last w/e and we played sh|te, I then went to Yeovil this weekend and we also played sh|te, but unlike a few years ago, the thought of Vale losing the match doesn't put me off going to the game.

Supporters Club PoTY do. I went and spoke to MA the previous year too and pi ssed him off something rotten. Levein spoke loosely about a 2 year plan but basically wants to bring in younger, committed players who have something to prove who can stay here for more than one season and build a rapport with the support. He spoke in favour of a settled line up etc.

I'm beginning to think he's more a Director of Football style man. His off the pitch performance for LCFC has been good and he has signed some good players and some who are yet to prove themselves but certainly more astute than MA. His team selections and tactical game on the pitch seem to be very lackiung though.

I don't enjoy going to the football as much I used to, which is mainly down to how we've played over the past few seasons. I realise Levein is attempting to build a side and it will take time. However, I am concerned that he doesn't know what he believes his best line up or formation is at present. Until he solves this, we will struggle, irrespective of how many men we have on the pitch. Levein seems an advocate of playing players out of position.

He re-signs Dublin as a striker, but again is acting as a stop gap to overcome our defensive problems.

Johansson was signed as a centreback, but now finds himself at left back, and looks uncomfortable there.

Gilbert isn't the finished article according to Levein, but even with limited fitness and games under his belt, it looks evidently clear that he might not be good enough.

Sheehan was given the opportunity to stake his claim vs Wednesday and Blackpool, performed fairly well in those games, but won't improve if he's not given a number of games, where he looks our best propect for that position.

Hughes is a very taleneted central midfielder, who is being deployed out wide, which curbs his influence.

Kisnorbo looks very average, and doesn't seem to excel in any area. A bit of a plodder in midfield who runs around a bit and might win a few headers. Shouldn't be a fixture in the first XI, especially if we're already playing one defensive midfielder in Gudjonsson.

Some very good points there Scowy. The key ones being of course Levein's inability (or is it unwillingness) to settle on where he wants certain players to play. In short, he needs to settle on a first xi which barring extenuating circumstances like injuries/suspensions... or special cases when a different tactical approach dictates a change in personnel/shape, remains the same.

If you're referring to the Leicester City Team then no they are not as bad as Pleat, Hamilton & McLintock or even Micky Adams last year certainly not if you take into account the potential. However my disillusionment was with the whole game as a spectacle, as entertainment, for it's supposed professionalism, LCFC where just part of a package that included QPR, the Referee and the stadium atmosphere and was the worst 'game' I've ever attended.

But hey as we do I'm over it now well sort of, I've since manged to put it into perspective and recognised yet again that there are more improatant things in life than football (was it that?) especially such an appalling game as this was.

I was there against Brighton and I actually enjoyed the second half :o so all is not lost.

Welcome "home" DavieG.

And let's keep doing our miniscule bit in campaigning for a return to the attacking, entertaining, creative football that was once a feature of Leicester City's existence, which once filled the ground with fans and which once took us to sporting levels so high it would have made a nervous man scared to look down.

Let's give thumbs down to fear football and do all we can to see that the joy is put back into the game generally and our football in particular. :):)
