Ric Flair Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 Thought i'd officially start this thread before he makes his debut so that you know where you've heard it first. STEPHEN DAWSON IS A PHENOMENON Agree?
Stuliasz Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 I've seen him play three or four times and he has always impressed me but don't overhype him just yet. I certainly wouldn't quite go as far as saying he is a phenomenon but hopefully he'll do a very good job for us over the course of time.

Alexikokopops Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 104009 tiny pic that! but nice find/creation 104010 Works well on a blue background
Ric Flair Posted 6 May 2005 Author Posted 6 May 2005 Lets just hope he signs the deal he's been offered! 104020 Why wouldn't he? Anyway atleast it shows that he's part of Levein's plans, which was what we were questioning after not seeing him in the first team squad since december.
Mark Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 He added: "Stephen is a young lad who has done reasonably well since we arrived here. We are going to give him another year and that will give us the time to assess as to whether he is going to be a future Leicester City player or not. He has got the opportunity to progress." Whattt? He's proved himself in the Reserves all season, has deserved a chance in the first team since at least the turn of the year. He can't prove himself, nor progress, in the reserves all season like this season, he's 19 now no first team appearances, horrible stuff. I said that same thing last season about Wright, and look and him now. Throw him in on Sunday. STEVIE DAWSON \ /
Jonbluefox9 Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 I've seen Dawson play at a few different levels on a few separate occasions. He's a solid player and he's been showing us that in reserve games for three seasons but I look at Stearman and he's what I call an extremely good talent. Dawson's looked like a solid player but not as good a talent as Stearman and according to Levein, not as good as Sheehan either. Imo it's a make or break season for him and he's either got to step into the spotlight or fall by the wayside. It's down to him how much he wants it.
Anish Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 I've never seen him play so can't comment about whether he deserves a chance or not. However, from the way Levein speaks about him I personally don't think he's made a big enough impression to make the step up to 1st team...yet. I know a lot of people here rave about him but I am not getting too excited if Levein hasn't thrown him into first team action (and probably won't this Sunday either).

It's now down to him, if he is going to be a player this is the make or break season.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 For those that haven't seen him the way I'd describe him is a younger, more mobile version of Neil Lennon. I don't know if anyone would agree but that's what I thought after I first saw him play in a reserve match at Filbert Way against Derby (can't remember if it was last season or the season before though, seems like two seasons ago to me). He is a solid central midfielder who has a bit of pace too, he's no snail. The last time I saw him play he came up against Flamini who has played in the Premiership for Arsenal this season and he didn't look too out of place when he came up against him. I would say I've seen him about 4 times when I knew who he was but I did go to quite alot of the academy games just before we moved to Filbert Way so he may have been playing in some of those sides too, I'm not quite sure.

Anyway atleast it shows that he's part of Levein's plans, which was what we were questioning after not seeing him in the first team squad since december. 104052 And he still is yet to feature, even during a nothing end of season game. If we don't send him out on loan, then i think he should leave for his own good, start a fresh. He's 20 by the end of the year, and still no first team appearances.
breadandcheese Posted 8 May 2005 Posted 8 May 2005 I think everybody is over-reacting slightly to Dawson not getting a run-out today. It is still good experience for him to be on the bench and travelling with the squad. I will admit, I was disappointed that we did not get to see him (based solely on the posts of this messageboard rather than actually having seen him play) but I can understand not starting or playing someone who is not yet contracted to this club for next season. If he is as good as people make out, he will get his chance next season. Let's be honest, there are only one or two people ahead of him in the battle for a place (Gudjonsson & Kisnorbo - one of which is rubbish, the other unproven). In all likelihood, it may have been that Levein wanted to give Dawson a run-out but McCarthy's discipline forced his hand (i.e. he did not want to play Stearman for a long period at centre-back and instead put Heath on). Levein clearly does not rate Heath and so it would not have been his first-choice substitution. Let's see what happens next season. He has that year to prove and we will know 6 months in if he has what it takes or not. If he cannot dislodge Gudjonnson from the team, he is clearly not good enough. If he has the drive and ambition that people say, it should be easy to overtake the midfielders for a place in our team.
posh_bird Posted 8 May 2005 Posted 8 May 2005 no doubt about it. he should have been played today. Ive been to most of the reserve games and i dont understand what more he has to do to prove himself worthy of starting or at least making an appearance in the first team. what a disappointment for him after such a long journey to plymouth. bring on next season!!!
Anish Posted 8 May 2005 Posted 8 May 2005 I disagree that it's "good experience for him to travel with the sqaud and sit on the bench". Dawson should have got some action, even with McCarthy's indiscipline. If Levein wanted to take off McCarthy he should have brought on Stearman rather than Heath. That way we could actually judge whether Stearman is ready to play CB and would also mean that we wouldn't 'waste' one substitute (which in my opinion was what CL did when he brought Heath on). Dawson isn't learning/proving anything by just watching from the bench.
