  1. No, just taught EFL for a decade and spent two years living in Palermo. My posts in this thread are like 90% Italy and the Balkans
  2. They have lovely grilled fish. Tuna and sword fish steaks. I guess that's good to eat? Just be careful of the passata di pomodoro and the espresso which are both weapons of mass destruction.
  3. I want to adopt him.
  4. Would also recommend Cafe Ateneo near Quattro Canti for breakfast. Mainly tourists but they have very good coffee and croissants and sitting outside you have a good view of the people and mopeds rushing past on via Maqueda and the Martorana church behind. One thing I'll say for people going to Sicily is that nothing has brought home the ageing of my digestive system like living there in my mind twenties and going back in my late thirties. The oil, dough and incredibly strong tomato sauce absolutely recked me last time.
  5. I don't drive, so I can't ever really tell people to hire a car. But that area is well worth exploring and public transport isn't amazing so perhaps a good idea. Noto and Ragusa are very beautiful towns. People tell me the area round Marzameni has good sea, but I don't know that coast so well. I always go west coast.
  6. Yes I went a couple of times. Lived in Palermo though so don't know the SE area so well. Lots of my friends love it though and there are some beautiful little towns nearby. The old town of Syracuse - Ortigia - is so beautiful. How long are you there for? Are you hiring a car?
  7. Where you going?
  8. Why can nobody sing that song to the right tune?! 🤣
  9. Just a pure footballer. Guy was born to play the game.
  10. I understand his baggage and why some don't like him but he's still a hero to me. Great player.
  11. Now let's go and get to 100.
  12. Thank God I thought there was some really problematic beliefs of his I didn't know about
  13. That was a fun day.
  14. The same, although I can't really remember the first couple of playoff defeats. Also - 5 relegations
  15. thought he'd missed it for a split second
  16. Frank Rolling. Anybody reading this in Preston, get it done
  17. Cambiasso song brings a little tear to my eye
  18. Don't know many other specific ones apart from those in the original post but I'd say: - Avoid via Maqueda in Palermo. Tourist trap now. The only good place that's good to eat there now is on Quattro Canti, in an old bookshop. Can't remember the name but you'll know it when you see it. - Kalsa is quite a good area for al fresco eating and drinking in Palermo. - The area round piazza olivella is also good for drinking, bit more studenty. Via candelai is popular too but I never liked it that much. There was a bakery nearby that we used to go to after drinking at like 3am and get sfincone straight out the oven. Absolutely unbelievable. But can't remember where it was and what it's called. I dream of having it one more time. - If you want good solid Sicilian fair, get pasta con le sarde or pasta al forno. Caponata, sword fish and pasta alla norma are also not to be missed. - 'Pezzi' (or as we used to oh-so-hilariously call them 'doughy ****ers') are very popular, basically bread stuffed with cheese and salami. Ganci is the most popular The part of Cefalu beach I usually go to - Lido poseidon - has a little bar where you can get pezzi and beer after a swim, still one of life's real pleasures. Cefalu beach is busy, and looks touristy, but the water is gorgeous and the view of the cathedral and mountain when you're in the sea is great. Cefalu cathedral is one of the great cathedrals of Europe. - Beef spleen sandwich is also popular. - After writing this I'm now mourning the loss of my youth and freedom.
  19. Was thinking today it feels like we've been promoted really early just because it's so cold outside. This is not end of season weather.
  20. Wood's a Luton fan
  21. More games. No VAR. Winning. Vardy continuing to deliver. Fatawu. Ricardo. Cup run. Leeds falling apart, again.
  22. Honestly I really disliked the O'Leary team and the rimming they used to get in the press, I don't know why. Maybe because they were never as good as people claimed they were. And it's a Yorkshire thing I guess. I think as a supporter of a team like Leicester it irritates you when you see less successful clubs built up just because they are from a big city and won a few trophies some decades ago.
  23. Haven't always enjoyed it but it's a great achievement. Very difficult to get promoted from any league and he's done it at the expense of a manager with a lot of experience of getting out of the Championship.
  24. I know you should be motivated by love not hate but I would almost rather Leeds stay down than us finish 1st.
