interesting reading this BBC article on Fabian Hurzeler at Brighton, particularly this part when talking about how he turned things around: "So what is the reason for the shift in fortunes since his own fans called for his dismissal? "It's partly because Hurzeler went back to basics," adds McCarthy. "He relied on an experienced core in the side to get out of the hole, which is testament to him because it shows his pragmatic side. You get managers who are wedded to their philosophy and won't change. "Hurzeler realised what he was doing was not working and that it could cost him his job, so tried something else. You can now see this is a team more in his image, because they press insanely." I mean, it helps if you are a good manager to begin with, but still.

Initially I was ready to give him time but he's got to go. I ended up laughing at their goals on the weekend because it has just become such a joke. The biggest issue, of course, is that we've managed to excel ourselves with every new appointment since Maresca left by going for someone worse than the previous manager, so god knows who will be next. Surely there are conversations going on in the club about this (regardless of how incompetent they seem to be)? They may have a belief in a particular style of play but it's not even like Russell Martin is presenting that consistently. We get glimpses here and there, which some people seem to cling on to as a sign that things will be okay, completely ignoring the other 85 minutes of dross. Maybe I'm oversimplifying it but if you inject energy, pace and desire into your team, then the fans get on side. If the fans get on side, the players feel energised and put an extra shift in. I always remember the Brendan Rodgers days at Liverpool, where his teams would come flying out of the blocks (not something that happened quite as much with us, mind) but it set the tone and it got the crowd on side immediately.

Well, let's hear people defending this performance. He surely can't survive this.

I'd like to think that a protest prevents KP sitting this out hoping for better terms. Any prospective owner will surely have better negotiating power if they see the hostility towards the ownership has led to protests and reduced attendance.

I genuinely wanted him to be a success. There is something about him I like. I've also appreciated his desire to change the culture of the club. But good god this is vile. He can't come back from this. This is the lowest moment I can remember. Absolutely pathetic.

I get that some on here are focussing more on how far we have fallen. When you put it in context, trying to be positive after being beaten by Ipswich is laughable. But personally I am looking for anything positive that will indicate to me we are turning a (very) slow corner. I saw examples of that last night, some fast transitions, exciting play. That was enough for me and some others to hope for green shoots of recovery, however fleeting they may be. I just want to see a mentality shift - we have had the same losing mentality for years now which is one of the main causes of our decline. I'm sick of football being about what's happening off the pitch, I just want to see my team back and bossing matches.

Well playing a premier league team and going 0-0 BC (Before Cullen). I'll take that.

I'm another who's been impressed by what he has said so far. However, I've been burned far too many times by managers who, let's be honest, can say anything they want at the start of their tenure, and often do without backing it up. It's no different to a political leader talking about all the changes they are going to make, how they understand people's frustrations and will make things better - it's just words. I will back him and the team, but at the end of the day I will judge him on results and I'll judge him on how he and his team react to poor form.

Well, it is a good deed. You've just decided it isn't because the guy earns a lot of money and it's on camera. I'm sure the recipient thinks it's a good deed - which is all that matters.

I agree. Wouldn't have been my first choice but I'll support him. Get the impression he's a bit of a slow starter while his style is embedded, I think that could be the trickiest time for us. He's a tough job on his hands - a fractured fan base, some players with bad attitudes and poor club leadership. Good luck, you're going to need it.

Hmm, not sure I agree with the comparison 😆 I think what you've said is totally subjective. You can look at him, his record (prior to the premier League season) and personality and like him. The problem is many people have, like cooper, already made their minds up that it's a poor choice and to assassinate his character. It may well be a poor appointment. But considing the negative rut we are in it seems counter productive to constantly be on a downer when we aren't able to do anything about the appointment. To clarify, I'm in no way a pro-Martin person, but I will personally support him.

As I've said before, I'm still willing to give him a chance. Every manager deserves that. Right now though we're back in Cooper territory: everyone's judged him before he's started. I still feel the frustration with the ownership for this move. I get the anger and resentment at how the club's being run. But FFS, let's at least see how he pans out. The negativity's all-encompassing at the minute and I can't be arsed with it. We will forever be in this negative death spiral otherwise. I'll give him time. And if it doesn't work out, I'll throw all my vitriol back where it belongs: at the ownership. But he does have great hair.

I'll support him, because what other choice do we have? I probably have a case of stockholm syndrome tbf. I will give him a chance, but I won't watch another interview of a manager talking about their vision for the club. They all talk a good game, very few actually follow it up by fulfilling those statements on the pitch with passion and results. One thing I will say: FFS please get this team strong and fit. my daughter's under 9 team has more stamina than these jokers. Edit: i had started watching his video and turned it off when the edit made him look at the subscribe button as it appeared on screen. Irritating.
