There was a time he made a good run with the ball against Spurs too. Still has some people convinced that ‘theres a player in there if hes used right’.
-
Isnt this like the 4th or 5th manager in a row thats said we’re not quick enough on the press now? Something really is deeply wrong.
-
Despite the quality of the game theres something so good about seeing 7 academy graduates in the line up
-
I think its the fact that he’s been away on a few international breaks now and hasnt exactly been quiet about how he wants to leave whenever hes asked by the media.
-
Not really because look at all the success and contributions he made before that. This is an argument based purely on contribution to the club, Faes doesnt have any credit in the bank from previous seasons and one half decent season in the Championship doesnt really do much to offset the absolute rubbish hes served up in the Premier League. As a starting CB for 3 seasons his direct contributions were 2 relegations and 1 promotion, the promotion can be caveated because we should never have been relegated with the 5th highest paid manager and the 8th highest wage bill or something like that. Other players have been worse in terms of ability sure but they contributed to mediocrity and not failure and were a symptom of the situation the club found itself in at the time (i.e no money, administration etc). Faes has been part of abject failure when such abject failure should not have been happening.
-
He only looks ‘good’ because he’s pressing up high and being ‘aggressive’ or he can carry the ball a little. Opposition players have learned over the years to just sit slightly off his shoulder or to just leave him and occupy the space he leaves when he goes forward because half the time he will get caught out and leave the player in space. His positioning and awareness are awful. This is what leads to him desperately sprinting after his man. People say JJ looks bad and i agree hes not been great but hes having to worry about covering his own side and Wouts.
-
The season we were down in the Championship Vestergaard outshone him completely. If you look at most of the attacks and goals we’ve conceded they all came down Faes side because he’s the weak link, he only plays because he’s quick for a CB and can carry the ball. Any other part of his game that requires him to do the defensive work he’s found severely lacking, i’ve never seen a CB get caught out of position so many times in my life.

Three Kilns is really good and decently priced Cobras too.
-
Theres no supposed about his mistakes he makes them every game he starts but if he was part of teams that had won then he’d have something else about his game too, currently however he doesnt. I’m sorry but the championship doesnt count as any sort of success considering we got relegated the season before with like the 8th highest wage budget in the league, being promoted was the bare minimum expectation.

Guppy was at Celtic the first time in that sequence and Elliot was not a regular towards the end. As mentioned above they had also achieved far much more success. Has Wout contributed to anywhere near the level of success the other players you mentioned have? No, he’s been consistently part of highly paid under performing teams.
-
If Wout had been part of two cup winning teams and numerous top 10 finishes i’d be giving him far more credit and leeway but he doesnt have that type of clout on his CV.
-
Its not that i’m blaming him. I’m just saying in terms of contributions as a starting CB, 2 relegations, poor performances, mistakes, losses etc it means in my opinion he’s the worst CB we’ve ever had. Has anyone ever honestly looked at the line up and thought ‘Its alright, Wout Faes is playing today I feel confident we’ll get a good result because of this.’ There were times in our history that seeing a certain CBs name in the line up filled you with confidence, with Faes the first thought is and always will be ‘I hope he doesnt make too many mistakes today.’
-
Wont be going Everton now they have Grealish.
-
Not many which is exactly my point and who was the consistent CB in those seasons? Faes. In each of the times we’ve been relegated in our history not many players survived after for as long as Faes has and if they did they definitely didnt last as first team regulars. Plenty of players worse in terms of pure ability sure but not many have contributed as far below the expected level as Faes has.
-
I’d be inclined to agree if any of them were more consistent in the line up but Vestergaard missed the first relegation and half of the second. Justin has some credit in the bank due to previous performances during a more successful period and his injuries and we’ve not had someone consistently enough in the LB position to be considered.
-
Same situation we had with Ricky P, he will be watched for a season before any decision is made. Praying he doesnt go the same way as Ricky P.
-
Right so you don’t have an example. Got it.
-
No i’m just making the case that the main cb of two relegation campaigns is probably the worst in his position in terms or contribution in the clubs history. You’d expect far more from a supposed international footballer. Plenty of fans still regard Junior Lewis as our worst ever player but he only has one relegation, less losses and far less mistakes on his Leicester CV compared to Faes.
-
Name me one other cb that survived not one but two dismal relegation campaigns with the club and continued to be a regular starter, its all i ask. The poster that named Kisnorbo came closest but he was bombed out after his first relegation.
-
No if you read my posts ive laid out that i think hes the worst because hes consistently been part of a side that has been relegated twice in 3 seasons. Any other player that you can consider ‘worse’ has never survived in the line up for as long as he has. Ability wise no he’s probably not the worst but in terms of contribution then yes he definitely is since he was the main centre back in 2 appalling relegation battles. People call Junior Lewis one of our worst ever players and he only got a season and one relegation. Faes has 2 relegations and countless mistakes and poor performances to his name.
-
Amartey was never consistently in the line up or consistently a CB. Benalouane was back up. Kisnorbo was used as a CB or a CM and he was better at CB but thats not a bad example. Still pound for pound Faes is worse.
-
Its literally in the quote you just quoted, might not be you but another user said it and I used that as an example. Okay so name me a centre back whos worse that spent 3 seasons in the starting line up? I’ll wait.
-
Okay so who’s worse that played consistently for 3 seasons?
-
You said he was brought on the cheap and plays like someone on the cheap, i provided an example of a cheap defender not performing cheaply.
-
Its a stretch i know but its more to illustrate the point that he was very good for us at this level but nothing more than average/below average at Premier League level. In fairness his best games for Spurs came next to Moussa Dembele bullying everyone like i mentioned above, as soon as Dembele fell off so did Winks and he was eventually sold to us.
