    Spiders

Me too. Fascinating creatures. The webs can be annoying but that's the only drawback AFAIC. We seem to have loads around and about the house/conservatory/garden this year. Even in the car. The other day I watched a house spider run out on a strand of web and take a fly that was caught in it, still alive, and pull it back to it's "lair" and tuck it away for later. Fortunately for us in the UK they are harmless and I would never kill one. They serve a very useful purpose and we can co-exist pretty successfully. I'm not sure I'd be so welcoming if I lived in Oz or other places where they have venomous arachnoids.
  2. The old woman who came straight out of the Morrisons exit onto the main A47 in Hinckley just as I was actually on the main road at that junction. She was inches away from hitting me. I swerved in time to avoid a collision, but I have seen so many collisions at this junction, almost all involving inept, elderly drivers. I looked back in my mirror and she didn't seem to know what had just happened, she just carried on driving at a miserably slow pace that meant other cars behind her were having to brake.
  3. Apparently this is how it was done. Intercepting the pagers on their way to Hezbollah military, planted small explosives and linked the pagers together via some coding and BOOM! Amazon have got a lot to answer for.
  4. I still pine for "the one" 47 years later. It is what it is and life moves on. The best memories last forever. I'm no longer sad but I can't help wondering... what if?

  6. But the pre smart meters did that. My understanding was that the meter sends the usage automatically to the supplier who then monitors usage to evaluate the bill without the consumer having to send readings every month or so. In line with that, the customer should always be satisfied that the readings sent by the meter are accurate and therefore the bill should be also.
  7. If it was a straight swap, I'd like it more.
  8. Frustratingly similar to Rodgers in that he keeps our most creative, ambitious players on the bench almost as if he's scared to go for a win from the first minute in case we lose in the last, if that makes sense. I, among many, didn't want him here but I was prepared to give it a go. My feeling now is, it was a big mistake and he must've been an "Aldi middle aisle bargain" appointment. Looks reasonable on the shelf but is actually a bit crap when you get it home.
  9. My late mum who is from "The Borders" (Berwick-on-Tweed) used to say this, so maybe it's not local but just a common phrase from way back when? In fact her version was "It's a bit black over our Bill's". No mention of a mother. But this might shed more "light", as well as a few other well known, odd phrases. 15. We've got a smart meter from EDF. It doesn't send readings to EDF so I have to supply manual readings. EDF won't provide us with a remote meter (for use indoors) either. When I contact them all I ever get is a bot which repeatedly tells me that there's a meter upgrade happening. Well, it's been "happening" for at least 3 years now. I'm resigned to just giving meter readings when they ask for one and checking the comparison sites, which tell me we are on the best tariff. Smart meters seem a bit sh1t AFAIC. Maybe it's just EDF.
  16. Coincidentally, I was wondering just the other day, if Leicester speedway was still going. Clearly it is. I used to go back in the days of Boulger and the like. We were pretty good then.
  17. I feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too It gives me a sense of enormous well-being. Birdlife.
  18. It's a bit daft, but me and Mrs Para have started playing a new game whilst out and about. We call it "Guess The Amazon Van Panel". It's simple, whenever we spot an Amazon van we have to guess which body panel has been dented, scratched or has a missing bit of trim. 1 point per correct guess and we never fail to get at least 1 point per van. It get's a bit more complicated when there's more than one panel damaged. Does a scrape along the length of the van count as 1, 2 or 3 panels? Should the doors score extra as they're not a fixed panel? Thoughts?

  24. That's got to be an elderly persons terraced home in 1971. I was 16 that year and our house looked nothing like that, dΓ©cor and furniture-wise.
