Saunton is so good, played it last year for the first time. East is better than West but they're both top courses. Playing Woodhall Spa this year for the first time, so thanks for that review too, really appreciate it! 🤣

Another one I missed from my list Burnham and Berrow, another great track. Really want to play Alwoodley and Hillside from your list above.
-
Not sure how much it is but Luffenham Heath is superb, but £25 at Longcliffe I'd snap up, think that's probably the best in Leicestershire (not counting Luffenham with its PE postcode).

Yep they've got the Women's Open, will be a test for sure. You mentioned a few others I've played that slipped my mind from my initial message: Walton Heath Forest of Arden The Oxfordshire Belfry Brab (already commented on it, think it's nothing special apart from 10 & 18, there's a good par 3 on the back too, over the water, might be 13).. Think the back 9 is great at the Arden, with the deer as you say, front 9 is fairly average though. St George's is next door to Princes and Royal Cinque Ports, doing all 3 would be amazing but would highly recommend Princes if you fancy another one in that neck of the woods, its absolutely brilliant. Close to being my no.1 course between that and Saunton. We stayed on-site as well, the accommodation is great. Haven't done RSG or Cinque Ports so hopefully will do all 3 in a trip one day. There's a open you can play with all 3 in it, but think it's either February or November which for 3 links courses is dicey weather wise. Albeit I'd imagine the courses would still be in amazing condition for that time of year.

Played Beau Desert, its absolutely fabulous. Well worth it if you get a chance. Not got to Cavendish so will check it out.

It is good, but isn't worth that in my mind, when I played it was free for the university golf team against Birmingham! Golf course prices have gone mad for visitors. The best way to play these courses is to get in their opens, for example Royal Porthcawl is £225/£250 per round.. we played at the end of April in their open at £130pp including coffee and bacon roll before, 2 course meal afterwards. Still pricey but at least you feel you've got a good deal!

Played Royal Porthcawl last week and thinking about it it's up there with the best courses I've played. Interested to hear anyone's top courses so I can try play them, I've branched out a lot more in recent years from just playing at my home course. Personal favourites so far in no particular order: Royal Porthcawl Princes Saunton Ganton Gullane North Berwick St Andrews (Old) - obviously Also played some decent lesser known/lower ranked ones: The Vale Rolls of Monmouth Edgbaston There's more if I had the time to think about it properly but what recommendations have we all got?

Sorry to be that guy, but those tournament scores shouldn't happen. I get the grow the game argument, but -31 is ridiculous, I'd even argue -23 for 4 rounds is too much. The courses need to be tougher for these guys, I don't want the US Open every week which is usually farcical as the USGA set it up stupidly but there has to be a challenge. -31 doesn't do anyone any favours, course measures 7600 yards nearly and that scoring is stupid. Just shows that length doesn't penalise players like strategic bunkers, water, rough, run offs do. Make them think, not bomb..

And the worst bit you can still be cut for it!

You say that's a "big mistake", in my opinion this isn't a mistake, this is a case of correct decision, bad outcome. You can make the right decision and just hit a poor shot, that's golf. Don't let the outcome dictate how you view the decision to take on the shot. In my head that was the right thing to do, you had the perfect number, 100/100 you should be taking that shot on and not laying up.

Great to hear mate. Your last line is the key to good scoring: 1) Keep it in play (i.e minimalise penalty shots) 2) Hit as many GIR as possible I don't do it, but I saw a scoring matrix I liked: 2 points - Fairway found 1 points - missed fairway but no obstruction to the green with either line of sight or swing 0 points - missed fairway -1 - penalty shot incurred/lost ball 1 point per GIR Adds to an already complicated game though! I played Royal Porthcawl in their AM-AM this week, a brilliant track, need to play it a few times to know where to go/where to miss. I got suckered into my usual trap of bashing driver off the tee and getting into trouble, would've lost some points in the above scoring matrix!

The PGA is the best course round there in my opinion for most golfers. Everyone talks about the Brab but bar 10 & 18 it's actually fairly bland as a course as well and as you've said its just long too. If you enjoy a test, it's a proper one and by all means I wouldn't put anyone off, just depends what you want from the day!

The Running Thread (formerly How fast can you run a 5k?)
HowardsBulletHeader replied to Sly's topic in General Chat
Right then squad, after about 4 weeks out with a foot injury from football after my first 5k attempt a short while back.. I've got myself some proper running trainers and tomorrow I'm ready to go. I am so excited to get started, target is the Rothley 10k, but sadly not this year as I'm on holiday! Using this thread as my motivation to keep on running! -
I think he's false. This whole man of the people/Captain America persona is a real false image, let's not forget he was disliked before LIV, disliked for going to LIV and it's pure PR from his management team to get him big on YouTube to win back popularity. I don't buy this interaction with the fans either, it's forced, it wasn't there yesterday when he wasn't doing well and he was back to the Bryson we knew. I credit him/his team for turning the image around, he may have the wool over some eyes, but certainly not mine. He's box office no doubt, he's a brilliant golfer, but the man of the people? Not a chance.

Well I don't want to overdo it... But the next major the USPGA is at Quail Hollow, Rory's first win and then The Open is at Portrush. I've not come up with anything Rory related for Oakmont but Rory slam anyone? Last night was pure theatre, imagine if it opens the floodgates!
-
Now then Justin, you let Sergio have a green jacket, step aside and do the same for Rory. Come on lad, my heart can't take it for Rory not winning this one..
-
Come on Rory, two more solid swings, two putts it's yours.
-
Oh my sweet baby jesus that's unreal, there's no words for that under the pressure he's under. To produce that at that time is some deep digging.
-
I love Rosey, I've got him at 80/1 but not this year Rosey I am begging you..
-
He should've been absolutely nowhere near that, that's an absolute shocker.
-
It's his year, that's so lucky..
-
LETS GOOOO! COME ON RORY!
-
Surely he's got it this time, it can't unravel again here. If he doesn't win from here he will be so mentally battered he will never win another major.
-
Oh we are back. Here. We. Go.
-
Needed that, that should steady him.
