I'm guessing you're too young to remember David Pleat and Peter Taylor
-
No they’d have more points because we’ve only played 22 games and there are 24 to go
-
Do we think the two goalkeepers is a message to the board in terms of signings or a question of squad morale? Maybe jettisoning Ward to the reserves is a look that EM doesn’t want because Ward is a ‘good bloke to have around the dressing room’ (although I dislike the phrase)? I’m only speculating, of course, and I’m just as frustrated as others not to see another outfield player given the opportunity. Surely a bench slot in a match day squad is a significant milestone in a young player’s development?

It is really. The 3 games in 6 days over the Christmas period could throw up a few unlikely results. For example, we could rotate for Rotherham with the Ipswich game so close afterwards in mind. Fortunately, all teams are in the same position in being forced to rotate, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there weren’t one or two strange results. Leicester v Rotherham in a top v bottom clash is an ideal candidate (for a weird result) and it’s definitely another banana skin to navigate when you combine it with the schedule

The our form/their form thing was just an illustration really. Another example would be Burnley last season who hit 57 points from their last 24 games. If Leeds did that we’d need to average more than 1.83 points per game. I think the reality is that our form would probably have to slip to something like 1.6 points per game (which is around play off chasing form) and Leeds would have to maintain over 2 points per game. Again, you’d like to think that won’t happen, but not inconceivable if we had a run of injuries and poor form
-
Not really. The simplest way of looking at it would be if Leeds had our form for the rest of the season and we had theirs (which is still just under 2 points a game) we’d swap places. I don’t think it’s yet beyond the realms of reasonable contemplation

I’m only speculating, but I’m assuming that the difference between Coady and Souttar is that the former was signed specifically to play for us this season whereas the latter probably wanted to leave; or has wages that we felt were better off our books? Maybe the more we look like getting promoted the more he’ll be up for the fight. Certainly I see him more like for like with Vesty than I do Coady. It seems we lose a dimension to our play when Coady plays. We’re all hoping for promotion this season and, if that happens, is Coady or Souttar the better player to invest in? It seems pertinent that neither Wolves or Everton wanted Coady around at the lower/mid table level

I’m not Patson’s biggest fan, but he currently looks like the best option we have. Vardy is 37 in January and owes us nothing, but is nowhere his clinical best. Nacho’s form is probably the biggest disappointment of the season given the expectation of playing at this level. I wouldn’t be averse to keeping Patson around for this season. Hopefully we’ll go up and then I’m not sure he’s the future, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it. Instinctively I feel his short term future may not be with us if the right offer comes in and I’d be fine with that if Vards and Ian were closer to the form we could reasonably expect

Birmingham City (A) 2-3 Leicester - Post-Match Thread

What a very strange take on it. Just because you support the team doesn't mean that you believe that every single decision should go in your team's favour. I'm sure every Leicester fan is mightily pleased that AF didn't get sent off, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't debate the good fortune of it in a post match review -
Yes, it’s only a personal point of view. I’m a natural worrier so I will only start looking at others if our position becomes secure. Ultimately I’d much rather Ipswich go up than Leeds, but my entire focus is on us at the moment
-
To be honest I couldn’t care less who wins between Leeds and Ipswich. I just solely want us to win knowing that we’re going to extend the lead over one of them if we do. It’s nice to have that additional certainty

If I take my blue (or Leicester second strip) coloured spectacles off then I think it probably was (or easily could have been) a red for Fatawu. Generally speaking though we were far superior to Birmingham and should have been out of sight if we’d been more clinical. The focus is on the minutiae of these game issues because the score line makes it look like a marginal win, but it really shouldn’t have been. Another potential banana skin dodged. Onto Rotherham…. -

Another win ticked off and that’s ultimately all that matters. I’d like to see a few players back. Our bench looked weak tonight and it showed when we subbed Mavididi off. I’m guessing that McAteer or Akgun would have been on if available. We’ll need to rotate over the next two games and that will make gaining points a bit more of a lottery. I’d like to see a few back to full fitness as we’ll need them anyway when AFCON starts I think if we’ve still got a decent lead after AFCON then we will be a massive step closer to the Premier League -
Yes - just imagine if he’d played well
-
Daka, Fatawu - poor KDH, Mavs - great A few nerves at the back. Need another goal as we look bound to concede from one of those long throws at some point
-
Two goalkeepers on the bench. That’s a relief
-
Let’s just stop bickering and all march on together… …. oh, hang on …
-
Oh come on!!! You can’t blame Brendan for everything
-
Yes exactly this. The capacity for something to go wrong is lessened when you have fewer teams challenging. The basic premise is that, if you’re in a relegation scrap, you want as many people in the mix as you can. When it’s promotion you want the fewest
-
I think I read somewhere that Birmingham have only lost one at home all season. They’re also not big scorers and we don’t concede many. Combined with Enzo-ball this all points to a very tight game. 5 - 5 then …..
-
Yep - agree with that. If we were in the Premier League looking on I’d perhaps like to see a team like Ipswich get promoted. This season they’re all our rivals. We just need to get up and I don’t care who comes with us
-
Perhaps you should take a few minutes and go and lie down for a bit
-
That’s wrong! You have to be conceived there as well
-
Yes, that's exactly what they were doing. The full sentence was: "While Ipswich have been the vastly superior side so far this season and remain second in the Championship, they still could not beat their old enemy, with their last win over the Canaries coming in April 2009."
-
That’s just a really silly comment when we’re not yet even half way through the season. The vagaries of form, injuries, activity in the January transfer market could all change the situation and any lead could disappear quickly
