Slightly scaled down plans from trying to kill/bankrupt myself in the Sahara, I might sign up for an Ultra in Scotland in May. The question now is one day or two, 50k or 110k. Realistically, if the longest distance I’ve ever done is a marathon (without stopping but some uphill walking), with 6 months training could I more than double that distance? My gut tells me if I didn’t sign up for the 2 day one I’d regret it but genuinely no idea if it’s doable.

Do you mean driven all the way there? Or travelling by train or car in Norway? I went to Tromso a while ago in January and loved it. Hired a car, drove into the arse end of nowhere chasing the northern lights. Then had to catch a train from Narvik to Northern Sweden so had to drive from Tromso to there in the middle of the night. Depends when/where you go but the reason we had to drive is because there was a lack of transport around there on the day we travelled, presumably Sunday, so the only thing I can say if you don’t want to drive is check all of that out well in advance. Driving was a piece of piss though, it’s no exaggeration to say I don’t think we say another car for about 3 hours. I guess nobody else was mental enough but with studded tyres it never felt unsafe.

A lot of events are like that at the start, but like you say helps you to sort your pace out early doors.

I didn’t watch any of today’s match but it sounds like it followed a familiar pattern, I find it fascinating how there can be no coherent style. Surely after training all week there would be some patterns of play and some joined up plan but nope. I expected a thoroughly mediocre season because we are a shit show, I didn’t expect one because the manager seemly has no clue how to get us out of second gear.
