I love 8. It's my favourite, I love the story and I think it's hilarious how easily you can break the gameplay with the junction system... But I do hesitate a bit when recommending it to people because I don't disagree that compared to materia or the the sphere grid it just isn't great.

@shen the FF7 remakes are fun and all but they're definitely not FF7. There's some similarity in the story but it's very, very much a different game. FF8 is mechanically mixed, mostly hilariously awful but I think the story, music and vibe are pretty much peak Final Fantasy for me. I think a gamer trying the series for the first time in 2026, you want to play something from 6 to 10 because they're the peak of the series. But the others might feel a bit dated or (in the case of 8) I'm honest enough to admit that when you put nostalgia aside, the mechanics aren't great. So X is the best compromise. It's a decent story, solid gameplay, it looked great at the time and is going to stand up the most out of all the others. If you genuinely give 0 ****s at all about graphics, start with 7. Edit: oh and 8 has the best mini game of all time in any game.

This is just why I wouldn't have gone back to "rock and roll football". It might be more entertaining to watch but I actually don't think we've moved on from the era of control football being the best way to win the Premier League. They've always spent big when they've felt the maths was right and the data backed up their faith in a player. Ekitike hit the ground running, Wirtz is a top player who looks like he's starting to bed in and Isak has largely been unfortunate with injuries. I feel the whole narrative around Liverpool this year was an over reaction, they're cycling a squad and it was always going to be a huge adjustment period. I'm a little bit surprised they haven't stuck with their guns with Slot and if they actually listen to the media pressure and try to go back to Kloppball purely because Salah is moaning in public I think it'd be a huge mistake.

I don't think daylight is necessary, I'm anxious about terminology like that because I think you'll end up with VAR micro analysing whether or not there's a pixel of daylight. I think you just need to rule that an offside has to be clear and obvious and benefit of the doubt goes with the attacker. If a VAR can't pause the replay at the exact moment the ball is kicked and tell pretty much straight away that it's obviously offside the just give it onside.

I know there's no wrong way to win a football game but christ arsenal are horrific to watch as a neutral
