In parallel with selling our best player, we've not yet made 1 signing that will improve our Championship starting XI from last season, bearing in mind Fatawu was already here. How on earth can we hope for anything other than ritual humiliation on a weekly basis in the coming season?

Fair play to Palace if they can get that kind of money for such trash. Compare that to our failure to get a single penny for any of Cags, Youri and Nacho, all of whom are far superior players to Ayew.

This is horrendous news. Really getting to the point where I can't be bothered with the club any more. If he gets 2 goals and 2 assists it will be one of his best seasons for years. To be honest, getting promoted was a waste of time, by the look of it - plus, when we get relegated we are going to be stuck with a load of ageing, past it players on big money seeing out time on their contracts.

Zaha was instrumental in carrying a bottom-half team to safety for season after season. Lingard was playing for one of the best teams in the league and did little of note for them.

Yeah but per 90 stats can be misleading as Zaha has got those numbers over a sustained period, unlike Lingard, who really only had 1 purple patch over half v a season at West Ham and did little else of note.

I get the potential concern but Zaha has a much better PL track record than Lingard.

Have to say that I'm getting increasingly concerned that he's undoing a lot of Enzo's good work very quickly. Removing Vesty and Ricky P massively undermines our capacity to play out from the back. Add that to playing 3 CDMs, and it looks like we'll be parking the bus and hitting the odd long ball forward for the pacy guys up front to chase. So we will end up having about 18% possession against the better teams, like Forest did under him. I get that possession isn't everything but removing some of our most technically proficient players is going to make this a very hard watch.

Surely we should be playing our strongest XI in the final friendly before the season. This is clearly not the best XI we could field.

It comes from the fact that until 2 years ago, the thought of us loaning a reserve player from Brighton was a very unlikely scenario. Brighton have clearly been well-run but in terms of history, fanbase and recent success we are miles ahead. Even in the excellent first full season under de Zerbi, they finished below where we did twice under Rodgers. And then we've won the PL, Champo twice and FA Cup in the past 10 years, whilst playing in Europe for 3 seasons in that time, including making the QF of the UCL and the SF of the Conference League.

The Big 6 get absolutely ridiculous fees for average players.
