I’m as dubious as anyone, but I’m clinging on to him getting it together at Southampton when he got them promoted from the Championship. But perhaps we’ve landed on the manager we deserve. We very rarely do midtable mediocrity - we either fight toward the top or bottom of whatever league we’re in or there is always something to play for. It’s either brilliant or crap with us. At Southampton in the Championship I think promotion was based on an insanely good run of wins or undefeated - 23 or 28 something like that. My point is that he’s either brilliant or crap, and to me that resembles the boom or bust journey and cycles that we’ve been on these last few years. We’re either brilliant or crap. So just as well as could be gone by Christmas, he could also be the next messiah (if messiah in this context is getting us out of this league)? But he is most certainly a silly boy!

The only thing I’d add to this is absolute shit. The two that have been around a while - compared to others - and have had more of a chance to bed in look particularly shit. I.e. Burns the Josh Low regen and Cullen who was dropped completely after a few games. McCarthy has had his moments I suppose, but also looks like another iffy signing and he’s going to be first choice all season. We all know what relegation looks like, and has anyone seen anything to suggest that won’t happen again?

I disagree. We have an unbalanced squad that’s largely come together in the last week of the window. A lot of the teams in this league have been together and had solid pre seasons - are organised and well drilled. We’re a team of strangers, journey men and young lads trying to play such an arrogant style of football. Whoever the manager, relegation is more likely than promotion imo.

We lost our way - nothing new there. But we used to have a plan, not just on the field but recruitment. When someone left for decent money, we already the replacement who’d been nurtured and developed for 6-9 months. In recent years we’ve just become a collection of mostly has beens (and now the level is someone like Burns) and now a handful of bright young lads. It’s quite evident there is no real plan with recruitment, and who we can bring in has narrowed because we’ve ****ed the finances. The squad Rowett took us down with must have had players signed under 5-6 different managers - maybe more - a lot of them brought in to play different styles. No way to run a club or build a team. Amateur beyond belief. Now there’s been a cull, and we do have an identity or set way of playing - but clearly the squad building doesn’t fit it that well because Luke Thomas is playing as a ball playing centre back! We’re ****ing shit, and another red flag is how many in the first team squad are loans. No way to build, it’s just become so short term to try quickly address the latest problem. It’s a long road back to anywhere near where we were when it was good under Rodgers, and we may never get back. Peter Taylor and admin set us back a decade or more, this is potentially 20* years in the wildness imo. It’s ****ing bleak.

It’s quite unbelievable that we just amble on and this death spiral continues. You’d think Aiyawatt would try and shift the dial by changing personnel like getting rid of Rudkin. How can he or we expect any different when key backroom personnel continue or get promoted from within. No doubt in my mind we are at serious danger of going down to League Two.

I think Jon Rudkin might be worth a punt after his caretaker spells in 2007 and 2011.
