This is why the likes of us, Brighton, Brentford and some years ago Southampton had a good formula - buy potential with a high ceiling who have an incentive to progress and carve out a career. As soon as clubs of our ilk arrogantly transition to spending massive fees on ‘established’ players who lack the fire in the belly to improve the margin of error becomes paper thin. You cannot afford to get it wrong - and some point you will. It’s inevitable. Also players who are worth big money don’t really want to come to clubs like ours, so you end paying over the odds for players lower down the pecking order who aren’t worth it. Agents have had a field day playing on our so called ambition. I’m saying some of this through hindsight of course, but if you actually think about it - it’s obvious. We have been run into the grounds by buffoons.

Top level football is a cesspit. Part of me isn’t bothered about going back, but then again I am conflicted given we want our team to compete at the highest level.

This thread is getting out of hand. Next manager? There isn’t a vacancy and any speculation has been from crap sources who are being fed by agents who want to use us as leverage.

I see the club are giving updates about the youth sides on social media, perhaps in response to those who’ve kicked off at the lack of coverage they get?

He’s the sort of manager who has - wittingly or unwittingly - carved out a niche of going into clubs in trouble. He might see the facilities, quality youth and squad and think if he can steady the ship he can build something for the long term. Clubs wont appoint him in the top half of the PL, but clubs struggling at the bottom or in our position would appoint him. So I suppose what I’m saying is that I think we could be a good fit. Plus he lives nearby… I reckon he would.

At least with Dyche he’d sort the defence out and make us fighters again. He wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’d be prepared to give him a go. Hopefully he’d also have the profile to take on and call out all the ridiculous things going on behind the scenes.

Absolutely this. Rodgers inherited a great squad and rode the crest of a wave for a time, but his own recruitment was abysmal and we’ve never recovered. And he has history - just ask Liverpool fans. It’s still a dead weight around our neck.

We’ve looked after him injury and contract wise, and while I wish that meant he’d be loyal I cannot blame him if he wanted out. We’re a shambles.
