The point is we have to invest big time in the squad and if we were to assume that we are are £20m short on ffp then a sale of kdh for £35m means we cover that £20m and the £15m left over covers purchases of £75m in year 1. Adjust the numbers up and down accordingly. of course it’s all guesses re ffp pre end June.

I think we got fair value for Barnes given we’d been relegated. desperation ? We will know more come June. I’m sure we’re scrambling around to get some commercial deals done within this financial year - we possibly could justify if we got promotion sealed v early. Selling kdh in jan as a championship club v selling him in June as a PL club - you’d expect to get more in June but clubs will definitely call our bluff if they think we need a sale. wait and see I suppose

This January is tougher re ffp by June, PL clubs will know their position better re how much they’re getting for the season from finishing position and sky money. I assume we’ve tried to bat away any cheap offers for kdh in jan to make it look like we’re not desperate. But we may end up in a similar situation that forest did with Johnson last summer. this assumes we have to sell someone of big value by end June

Would have been included on their P11D as a benefit so must have been added to the wage bill I guess the club would have paid tax on them too We don’t But it’s not an unreasonable assumption that if there is a relegation reduction then there will be a promotion recovery to the agreed contractual salary my musing earlier was that did we manage to get relegation clauses included into contracts on the basis that players would have the opportunity to recover some or all of their reduction via immediate promotion. Many were surprised that we had relegation clauses in contracts at all (apart from VK and souttar)

I’m increasingly intrigued by the lack of interest in our players wanting out since last May (and our inability to move some on), despite their sig drop in earnings as reported by Percy and others. I can only think that a possible reason for this is that if we go straight back up then they get this back as a bonus. That would be quite a hit in the accounts and tough to argue it should be put into next years numbers because I believe league rules state that bonus’ must be paid in the season (ie before end June) to which they are connected.

If you mean this window as in the one just finished then clearly we would have liked to get some money in but weren’t able to do so. the summer window needs to be split June /july- august. Word is that we need to sell a player £20m+ that is either academy or in second contract ( all profit) by end June. so we may well be forced to seek irrespective of being a PL club again

I do wonder if ,( just as with the ukraine war), the prospect of trump in a years time may concentrate the minds of Iran and its proxies. if the polls are steadfastly against trump then it won’t have much affect. still talk of a six week ceasefire to allow the remaining hostages to be freed. (And a much larger number of Palestinian prisoners) whilst Hamas are against this because Israel will not agree to a complete ceasefire after the six weeks are over, I think they may accept it in the short term because the alternative is the removal from Gaza of their fighting forces over the next couple months (for us it’s the deaths of thousands more civilians but that doesn’t seem to be part of hamas’ calculations)
