Once the system of tuition fees came in, loans are the only way those without wealthy parents can afford to go. Unless you’re gong to means test fees then this is the best broad solution (the way it’s structured is rubbish though) you’ll find that on your journey through life there are lots of inconsistencies and injustice. Money makes money. Always has done and always will do. that £400 invested each month would be worth a fortune to you in thirty years ? The interest on the loans is the main issue imo and a party that ran on a ticket of recalculating loans to remove all the interest accrued would be in a good place.

I didn’t see the first half apart from the goals so can’t comment on who had possession more and who was physically taxed. Mentally they should have been shot. Maybe a surprise to see our capitulation given that we had the experienced CB on the pitch to see out the game. No sign of the much trailed leadership on show. regarding our fitness - there isn’t any. No pride from the playing squad and the small percentage gained from doing extra work during the week non existent. From my perspective it all drips down from the top of the club - the players think they care, just like those in the boardroom. But quality is lacking in the boardroom (annd elsewhere ) and real effort/application that makes a difference isn’t anywhere to be seen.

He’s right the players aren’t stupid the fish rots from the head the whole organisation sees that incompetence is rewarded in the board room. No surprise that there doesn’t seem to be any pride anywhere.

Exactly the brexit crew were totally vague because they didn’t have to say what leaving actually meant a promise to rejoin would ironically be questioned on every detail. (Defence, currency, Schengen …… etc etc etc ) and every answer will see another half of a percent drifting back to the status quo

I think perhaps you over estimate the size of the noisy left/right and underestimate the number in the centre who are prepared to vote Tory/labour/lib dem I accept your comment that politics has polarised over the last decade but I still believe this is exaggerated, especially when it comes to a GE

For all his faults, I think Starmer is labours best chance of winning in 2029. I think Polanski will fold like a cheap suit once the heat is really on him. (if the greens ever gets that far to attract real heat). The majority of the electorate are centre left and centre right. Starmer can attract that centre right whereas a leader further to the left won’t. unless there are skeletons I don’t know about !

Facts are irrelevant - that’s why we voted to leave I accept that the eu might allow us to rejoin without taking the euro but I reckon they’d want it front and centre. We’ve chucked all our opt outs in the bin. The majority wanting back in will drift back to 50/50 at best once the brexiteers can shout about the pound and all those opt outs having gone. Basically we rejoin on worse terms (re their precious ‘sovereignty’ ) than we left! the greens and Lib Dem’s are not considered serious parties of govt so they’ve not been challenged on all these matters. The left and centre left is split across labour, greens and Lib Dem’s. The right and centre right the same. We’re years from a GE unless labour commit political suicide.

Understand that and it’s broadly the accepted way forward but does trying to hold back the sea mean that we’ll end up with more dead than finding solutions to living on a baking planet? Impossible to answer.

Genuine question - how can anyone pledge to rejoin the EU ? It’s way too vague. They can promise to explore the possibility but their opponents would just shoot down a rejoin commitment as being ‘labour pledge to join euro and ditch pound’ and they’d not win on that basis

Trying to work out what streeting is up to. He’s certainly not supporting Starmer with his WhatsApp leak. Looks like he’s attempting to show that he wasn’t mandelson’s political lap dog which is positioning himself for a run at the top job. But it’s very clumsy and will have repercussions for the whole govt with its content.

Irrespective of the cause of CC, this is surely all understood by those capable of critical thinking. The planet is warming faster than it would be expected to based on historical analysis. whether we can stop that is a moot point. Could it be argued if we should be spending resources developing solutions to cope with a planet that has swathes of uninhabitable lands and unable to feed its populations based on existing methods rather than trying to slow the speed of warming. The warming will happen even if we managed to slow it somewhat. The solutions are going to be needed in any case. not wanting to appear like an ostrich here but wondering whether we need to be thinking of some crazy looking ideas to deal with the fall out of CC as opposed to ending up being viewed as a generation of Canutes. Just throwing this out there ……
