  1. I think what's wrong with him is he made a few careless comments, doubled down on them, torpedoing his reasonably successful acting career which he has then replaced with right wing grift. I'd have probably have gone to work in a garden centre or something in that situation, but I imagine we're very different people
  2. Bit of good news for a change: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/sep/28/plastic-eating-bacteria-enzyme-recycling-waste
  3. I did one in 54:12 this morning on a fairly hilly route and you've always been quicker than me, you'll smash it I reckon
  4. I bought a dehumidifier and the amount of water it pulls from the air is astonishing, it's like some sort of witchcraft. I've not measured it, but I'm guessing I've emptied out 2 or 3 litres from it today. Just water from nowhere, as if by magic
  5. It's great isn't it? I've tried listening to the Dana version in the absence of this one on the streaming services, and no offence to Dana but I'm struggling to think of another cover that turns the original from something a bit naff into a bit of a wonder
  6. If the conversation between the lady that cuts my hair and the customer before me, and the responses I've just been reading to Robert Preston"s tweet about this are anything to go by then, depressingly, they're completely correct
  7. Because it also gives them access to a world of shite that we could never have dreamed of
  8. I liked it when the Pogues Twitter account called Laurence Fox a "little Herenvolk shite"
  9. 25:38 this evening, bit quicker than it's been for a while. Still need to knock 1:40 off that to get PB but goal is to do that before Christmas. Briefly thought I might do Leicester 10k but have decided to bin that off as it's bound to disappoint. Was much fitter only 3 months or so ago
  10. Murdoch stepping down. Shame in a way, I'd like to have seen him drop dead during another televised inquiry into the press - Leveson Part 2, ideally - but I guess you can't have it all
  11. To be honest I think if they stopped manufacturing them today we'd cope alright. The infrastructure is improving all the time and I think this is overdone a bit anyway as a lot of the infrastructure is in place already in that a significant proportion of the populace has the infrastructure in place already - i.e. their own homes. The range of them is such now that it's only people doing really high mileages on a regular basis that are going to find an EV a ball-ache. It looks like I'm going to do about 12,000 miles this year - more than usual actually, and the adjustment/inconvenience to me of having an EV is pretty much zero. It's very difficult to ignore the political aspect of this though as like seemingly everything these days it's being turned into a baffling culture war. Nearly every day I get a Google alert about a right wing newspaper story with a headline like "I bought an EV and it's the worst thing I've ever done" or "Desperate dealerships' forecourts clogged with unsold EVs". We've seen on here that a lot of folk just don't understand things like ULEZs, and you only have to portray something as being forced on them and suddenly it's like we're all sixteen years old and EVs are Russell Brand. EVs are still discouragingly expensive for most people, but so are most brand new cars so again this seems to be a bit overplayed. It's not like all the relatively clean ICE vehicles made to date and continuing to be made up until 2030 are suddenly going to be pushed into the sea is it? Personally I think the thing that will change everything is if what Toyota claim is true and that they're very close to perfecting solid state batteries AND that technology isn't eye wateringly expensive then everyone will abandon ICE anyway, as it will mean that EVs will have greater ranges and charge in a fraction of the time they do now. As for Ferrari, the first thing I think of when I see a supercar now is Andrew Taint
  12. It's actually real. Truly, we are entering unchartered territory
  13. Yes, those famously woke lefties at Auto Trader have also been weighing in. Christ knows what's been being said in focus groups if they're trying to convince themselves that people not being able to buy a BRAND NEW petrol or diesel car in 7 years time is something that should be informing policy
  14. I think his mid-life crisis is a good few years behind him to be fair. That was what's left after it
  15. My phone won't let me look at it. What is it?
  16. He's made no secret of being promiscuous and I imagine expectations of those getting romantically involved with him would be pretty low, so my guess would be it's about some horrible coercive control crap
  17. I always leave it to my adoring public to judge. I would welcome you to the fold with open arms, of course. UP THE CITY
  18. It's like an episode of Lassie, except instead of the dog desperately trying to alert the park ranger to the fact that the kids have got trapped in a ravine through a series of whimpers and clumsy canine gestures, it's you, trying to communicate a point known only to yourself by asking a question that you already know the answer to. We need to work on this if anyone's going to watch it
  19. I triggered all the chat on here about this with a post where I expressed the opinion that there's a lot of noise around this issue but it's very difficult to get a sense of who this actually affects and to what extent. We've gained no clarity on that but we've had a lot more noise, haven't we?
  20. We need some good news ULEZ stories. Baz from Bexhill has used the money from My 2005 Astra was ULEZ compliant and I reckon if that still exists you could probably buy that for about £200, spend the rest of the scrappage money on a nice hot tub or something
  21. My last bit of light reading for now: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/scrappage-schemes/car-and-motorcycle

  23. Some light reading: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/health-matters-air-pollution/health-matters-air-pollution
  24. Probably a Forest fan. How do I know? Because it looks like one! I'm here all week, that's not old, it's gold etc
  25. I snoozed and lost the other day when I didn't buy a 2nd hand copy of her "Collaborations" album for 11 quid off Amazon, and someone else bought it. Cheapest one now over 40. Really want it because the version of "All Kinds of Everything" on it with Terry Hall is GREAT (unlike the original) and I can't get it anywhere else
