I think that in a possesion based side he was on the fringes of the French squad when he came to us, and whilst I don't think he is hugely well suited to the PL because of its physicality, his style is not unusual where he learned his football. I think he was playing in a successful England U-21 setup at the time, but it all went wrong for him (didn't he get himself sent off in a crucial tournament game, and England went out). It has been all downhill from there, or at least from when he signed that deal. I might be wrong on timings as it was a while back, but I think that was peak Hamza. He was very fashionable for a while.
