That’s pretty much what I told my sister. She insists on converting her entire pot to an annuity but I suggested considering leaving a portion in a higher risk asset facing the market. If you don’t need a portion of your pot for say a decade, you can afford take a bit more risk, with the prospect of probably higher returns.

Interested to know what people think about annuities these days. Obviously now interest rates have gone up you get more now. I think I’m right in saying that women now have to get the same rate at the same age as men. It used to be that they got less to acknowledge that they live longer on average. Presumably this means that an annuity might be a significantly better option for women than for men.

Only got to see the 20 min highlights of this match due to being in transit to UK, first match I haven’t watch live this season. Looked a completely dominant performance from start to finish. Not sure what young Kasey did to earn all the disparaging comments apart from the headed miss, and made up for it later with the goal, plus an assist wasn’t it? We’ve got to try to persuade Vardy to sign for another year. He’s still looking hungry and would be a great influence in what could be a difficult first season up. If we can’t sign Ndidi, I’d seriously give Faes a try in that role, and play Coady at the back. Anyway, all’s well that ends well, and the 10 match horror run seems to be well in the rear view mirror now. I’m starting to look forward to next season.

But isn’t it the total amortised transfer fee plus wages that counts against FFP? If there is no transfer fee, the player can be paid more, or alternatively can be awarded some sort of re-signing fee. A replacement would require a transfer fee plus wages, plus is an unknown quantity.

Not many of our really big money signings have worked out. Tielemans was good for a while, then a bit average, then ran his contract down so one way or another cost the club a packet. Can’t remember what Maddison cost, but obviously a good signing. Anyone else? Most of the rest were expensive failures if I’m remembering right. Develop some of the promising youngsters, find a few gems if we can on the cheap, and just try to stay in the PL for the next 2 or 3 seasons until our finances have stabilised. See during this time whether our recruitment looks as if it can be trusted with larger sums to try to get back to Europe. That trust will need to be earned.

I hope the new, more positive version of Enzoball prevails. It’s seemed to me throughout the dour recent showings, that piddling around at the back only works if you strike forward really quickly. Otherwise why would you take risks drawing the opposition on to you if you’re going to wait for them to get back in position before attacking? I’m convinced that this is what we were doing earlier in the season, then somehow lost the knack. Hopefully we’re back on track, and Enzo’s style develops a second dimension.
