Yep agreed, I had NFC tickets in the first season and it worked really well via the method you describe. However having a burner phone is easier if sharing with anxiety-ridden happy clappers. Strangely, I tried to do this for the Ipswich game. Previously - when you clicked the download button on the website, it emailed an NFC link of your ST which you could use. For this game - it showed me a QR code on screen, presumably I'll screenshot this and use as the ticket. For next season I'll load my ST onto an old phone that I can pass on, everyone has an iPhone 6 or Samsung whatever kicking about in a cupboard.
