  1. The bond market responded well initially to her speech, which is what she's after. There's going to be no tax giveaway as some chancellors have had the luxury of indulging in the past, so somebody will be upset whatever the outcome. In hindsight, they should have just said last year that finances are much worse than we thought, we are going to reverse the NI cut bribe put in place for the election.
  2. Very philosophical this debate. I think this is a Hobbesian (not Jack) perspective. My old philosophy lecturer would be very impressed and he used to keep a live tortoise on his desk in honour of Aesop's fables.
  3. A couple of nice flicks, but other than that he looks like he's playing walking football. Are they all being over-fed at Seagrave?
  4. When RVN left I said I wanted an old codger with the experience and personality to manage this squad. Not: a) a 30 something, so called tactical genius with white-soled shoes. b) a cut and paste euro manager with some success at Viking FC. Where is Sarri, Bielsa..... Pulis
  5. Yes, probably a lot more than we could pay him on a county contract. Hull get about £70k on a development contract, in addition to his county wages.
  6. Exactly. My wife is a clinical psychologist and that was her immediate thought.
  7. My thoughts go to the victims and their families. An incredibly traumatic experience be trapped on a train while this happens.
  8. Looks like he keeps asking Kingy for advice on everything anyway
  9. Inherited a mess but not helped himself with some of his selections. Vestergaard gets picked for his passing from the back, but has never been mobile enough and has a mistake in him every game.
  10. Didn't look match fit to me. He was injured and had asked to be taken off for the second goal
  11. Winks and Soumare are a terrible pairing. Winks/James a much better pairing and not sure why that didn't happen today.
  12. Yep, no courage to get to the ball first. Doesn't think quick enough and no pace over the first 5 yards. Hinchliffe keeps mentioning his movement but that's pointless if he can never get to the ball
  13. I once taught a girl who had walked all the way across Europe from Eastern Turkey. She had learn English almost perfectly in two years and was a dedicated, hardworking A Level student. She would have been a valued member of any society.
  14. Like two boiled eggs in a hankie
  15. They look really good. Ruben Collwill is far too good for League 1
  16. What were they smoking when they signed this guy. My only explanation is that it was combined with a trip to Amsterdam
  17. A little reasoning... We have only lost 3 games. Only Cov, Middlesborough and Bristol City have lost less. It's a long season with many ups and downs. The international break came at a bad time for us and we had players flying everywhere for their national sides. If we win our next game we could be back in 6th place. He needs time and transfer windows to sort this squad out and a clearer picture might emerge after January. It could get worse before it gets better
  18. Went pumpkin picking with the kids.
  19. Hopefully that wouldn't play with voters and opposition parties calling governments to account. I would like to think that with most other uses of AI it's a time save and sorting mechanism, with actual decisions being made by experienced practitioners. Listening to Robert Peston, talking about the use of AI in journalism, he said the it will affect entry level jobs, but it still needed experienced journalists like him to make decisions about applying it.
  20. Mine can't switch the kettle on. I find it extraordinary that Monga gets himself to training, never mind plays football in front of 30,000 people, goes on planes to play abroad for his national team etc.
  21. Did start a trend for a popular form of men's knitwear though.
  22. Yeh it's really an idle pastiche of Britishness, at its worst espoused by Farage. I don't think of my nationality that much but in terms of Britain I've always thought of the great music, art, literature, inventions and sports that Britain has produced as well as campaigns for workers' rights, women's rights etc. I come at it from that direction. When I think of Britishness I think of: Curtis/Bronte/Hockney/Brunel/Pankhurst/Charlton/Hobbs. One could go on for ever. But these are things to be shared with everyone just as the Sistine Chapel is. They don't need to be protected and are not being eroded, they will always be there.
  23. Adorno's theory of authoritarianism explores this concept and there are other behavioural case studies. For example, Trump inflates the sense of disorder and crime in the States to provoke a greater climate of fear, which leads certain personality types to view him as the 'strong man' protector.
