Okoli isnt amazing either but at least he puts his body on the line to keep the ball out of the net whereas Faes is all over the place.

Development/Youth Squads 2025/2026 Thread - U18/U21

This is likely the reason but sadly it's another mistake from an ownership that has been taking too many reactive, short term decisions which is how we ended up in the situation rather than making proactive, long term decisions. -

We're not on track for promotion anyway and if anything we've gotten lucky to start the season. It's becoming clearer every week that these experienced players are not going to deliver promotion. Might as well actually trying to build something rather than trying to restart a fire that has run out of fuel. -
It would be nice if we gave Aluko a go. His runs into the penalty helped open up defences in pre season and he was even playing at centreback them. Think his athleticism and dribbling ability would be useful.
-
Why are we comparing ourselves to Coventry who are 1st and ahead of ourselves by some distance. We are 9th, a more apt comparison would be to Cifuentes's previous team in QPR who are now sat above us at 8th. Both managers been in position for a similar period.
-
Might be unpopular but I still wouldnt be particularly hot on him if we were winning most weeks and challenging for the automatic positions. What is the point in going up if it is with the likes of Faes, Ayew etc as our key players, we're just going to have another terrible season in the PL like last year where we are massively out of our depth if we go up that way. The primary objective of this season has to be to integrate the academy players and shift the high earners who we know arent good enough. A rebuild where we actually bring some life into this team. The fact that he has created this separation between academy and first team and is still floundering at achieving his own goal of promotion at any cost, including the cost of the long term future of the club, doesnt leave him in a good light.

Pedantics mate, youre romanticising a player who doesnt play for us anymore at the expense of a player who is performing well for us right now. Stolarczyk is one of our best players, even if Hermansen was as good as you remember, which may or may not be how it was in reality, what's the point in comparing him to the Hermansen of a year ago. Alternatively Hermansen could still be with us and be playing like he was at the end of last season and this season with West Ham which would be worse than what we have in Stolarczyk now. Let's just celebrate Stolarczyk for being one of the few players preventing us from being a complete embarrassment currently.
-
I honestly think he's not far off where Hermansen was for us at all. Hermansen has gotten the same face lift that Faes did where because he was involved in our championship promotion season people seem to have a false memory of him being completely imperious last time in the championship, which he was not. He had plenty of times where he passed straight to the opposition in our penalty area or where he failed to claim a cross, which Stolarczyk is far superior at. Don't get me wrong Hermansen was good in our championship season but it's similar to how people were saying Faes was 'our best defender' and need to start if we want to be promoted. Then when Faes started games we all came back down to Earth that he wasn't all that special at this level. Hermansen was never the reincarnation of Neuer that he is being made out to be nowadays but since it's been a while since he's started for us he's gotten better in everyone's minds. He was only ever as good as Stolarczyk is now, which is one of the best in the championship but not some world beater.
-
Hermansen had blunders when we were in the championship as well. Stolarczyk isnt perfect but he's won us a lot more points than he's lost and has been one of the best in the championship. Put an average championship shotstopper in our team and we're lower midtable with the number of chances we concede a game.

Nelson will get his chance Nelson isnt a youngster anymore, he is proven at this level. He had a better defensive record playing for Oxford United in the championship last season than we have this season and that was against harder opposition than we have faced so far. He can fill in for Faes just fine, Marti is just a terrible manager who cant see what he has available to him.

Leicester cant beat Hull, Portsmouth, Wrexham, does that mean that Fatawu is not one of the best players in the championship? Evans, Aluko, Page have been earmarked to make the step up for a reason and that is because they have a standout quality in the U21s. Other players in that team might not even make it at national league level which is why as a team they struggle against men's opposition. Three good players doesnt mean a youth team can come out and dominate a men's side. Nelson is outright proven at championship level, so he doesnt belong in this conversation with the others. He's no longer an academy player but a good championship centreback which is why there is so much fuss about him in particular. -
I remember people saying the other day to let him off for jogging back against Portsmouth because that's not his game. He showed in the last 20 minutes today that it's not that he cant do a defensive job, he just cant be bothered most of the time. Playing like that last 20 minutes isnt sustainable i will admit. I will also take off my hat off and admit he was brilliant for those 20 minutes, so can we please see at least 50% of that graft on a regular basis.

Julián Carranza joins on loan - Official

Hopefully after the Edouard fiasco we have learned to put a break clause in his loan? -
Not quite, they finished 14th that season. Finished 17th the season after so it somehow got worse for them after he left.
-
We need to move on from a lot of these players. We all know that. Does Marti know that? Im not so sure. He seems to have given new life to the Leicester Careers of Ayew, Faes, Vestergaard, Daka, Soumare etc. This was supposed to be the season where we rebuilt around the academy and he has not delivered.

Could have had 2 assists today

Brilliant by Ramsey

3-2 on pens, forest green missed one. We might win this. Evans, Aluko and Daniels the takers so far. -
Monga is already too good to be playing with these teammates

2-2 sadly -
Wout Faes had his inevitable couple of stinkers. Had he had 1 or 2 less mistakes in recent weeks it would still be considered acceptable for us to sacrifice the long term future of the club for a player who has been pushing for an exit since the season he came.

I think we need to accept there simply isnt a pathway. Nelson had a successful loan at championship level including good games against the promoted and playoff sides and still doesnt make the bench. -

Hughes, Vestergaard, Nelson, Okoli, Faes, Egan. Probably knock Nelson above Vestergaard if he's playing regularly for us.
