Different levels of talent. Yes theoretically if he had a Fofana type season it would make the transfer look like a cheap buy. Similarly if Barcelona bought Wout Faes for £50 mil and he turned into Carlos Puyol it would make the £50mil look like a steal, but it's just not going to happen. Okoli is a relegation level £6mil centre back with a potential ceiling as a midtable £20mil centre back. He just doesnt have the defensive awareness to be worth £60mil at any point in his career.

What makes this transfer look even worse is that Southampton are looking to get Ronnie Edwards and Nathan Wood for less than the fee we are paying for Okoli combined. It makes the posters trying to lecture others on how we need to accept that we are now operating in a bargain bin market look a bit silly. We are relatively breaking the bank for this bloke, a premium transfer for the situation we are in, and he might not even be any good.

Atalanta fans, they said they were expecting £5-6 mil for him from a Serie A club and were surprised that we spent £11mil on him. If we were to sell him after an average/poor year we would be looking at a £4-5mil sale. As mentioned above though the fee including addons that may not be hit makes it more reasonable.

That's more reasonable to be fair, if it's £8m plus addons then you could argue that the extra £2m is just PL tax. Hopefully it's not appearance based addons though because they incentivise not playing him.

It's all relative, Okoli is considered to be a £6mil player, so we aren't paying a modest fee at £11mil, we are overpaying significantly. This kind of business is the reason we are in this whole PSR situation, it's fine taking a risk on a young player, but due to us overpaying if he doesn't work out we won't be able to sell him and break even on FFP. We complain about Serie A and La Liga clubs taking us for a ride on transfer values for Praet, Kristiansen etc but this is natural result of us almost spending double what they are worth in the first place. Paying double the value of a player is never smart transfer business, we are taking a big risk and if that risk doesn't work out then we will be stuck with him running down his value on loan/on the bench alongside Soumare, Souttar, Coady etc.

From the video he looks around Faes's pace, maybe slower. An Italian on reddit had this to say about him, which implies that he's not fast - "Unfortunately, doesn't always read the game well and lacks the pace to cover up for mistakes as easily. Definitely stood out as Frosinone's best defender last season but realistically that's not saying much."

It's just very typical that on a thread about a black defender you instantly have incorrect posts about adding pace at the back, maybe you were just going with the flow but it's not a wild leap to think that people made the pace assumption based on his race.

Just because he's black does not mean he has pace. He seems to be around the same as Faes, not slow but not fast either.

Not according to the Italians, they seem to view him the same as fans of other premier league teams view Faes.

Gabriel Sar, Florentino Luis etc? Theres loads of good midfielders around, the issue is whether we have the fund and spending 15 mil on a winger when that's our strongest position doesnt help.

15mil on a 24 yr old winger who doesnt have a great record in the Argentinian league seems strange to me. Surely it's smarter to use this money on a quality midfielder.

Steve Cooper used to manage him for the England U17s but he didnt want to get called up for the u17 world cup and got injured anyway so I dont think there is a strong connection there.

Considering he was against Mbappe, griezmann and thuram I thought he did very well. Had quite a good tournament overall.

He's not at a level where he can be trusted to play a full season in midfield for Leeds in the championship, let alone play in midfield for Spurs. £40m from Spurs is very reckless spending, could easily go the route of Sessegnon and rarely ever start for them

He's too good to be a squad filler for a club like ours. Especially at 30m.

We used KDH as a deeper midfielder in the PL. Dewsbury showed this season that his runs into the box and finishing is better than Gallagher despite being in a lower league.

England caps mean very little to me, if you're arguing on that basis then Mason Mount is better than Jack Grealish, Maguire is better than Ledley King etc. Gallagher is clearly not International quality as shown by his performance against Slovenia. Personally I like Dewsbury Hall much more than Gallagher, he's smarter with his positioning and movement, better technically and is a better goalscorer.

Dewsbury Hall is a better player than Conor Gallagher. Some of our fans have a strange perception of Dewsbury Hall, he's a good Premier League footballer at worst and he might turn out to be a good European footballer at Chelsea as well.

Different types of players, Drinkwater had a better long pass on him and Dewsbury Hall is more of a dribbler/box crasher. I think Dewsbury Hall has a better mentality though and as long as Enzo is there I think he will do well for them.

He's a midfielder who played most of the season at right back because Leeds didnt have anyone else there. He had a few games for them in midfield including the QPR 4-0, personally I think he was better as a right back and he's not good enough currently to play midfield for a team looking to get promoted, let alone a team playing in the PL.

I dont see it for Gray. Yes he's only 18 but he's very limited as a midfielder currently, not very good at passing and doesnt understand how to control a game. He has a long way to go to get to Dewsbury Hall's level let alone a level above that.

If you dont rate Dewsbury Hall in the PL then why even consider O Hare who was significantly worse last season? A young striker who will improve? Maybe give him a season or two and he could turn into a Neil Maupay level striker, if he ever gets there, totally worth it. Carvalho maybe a decent choice. Still we would have significantly weakened ourselves with that window. If you cant see the difference in quality between Dewsbury Hall and players like Broja and O'Hare then I cant help you.

8 goals 1 assist in 2700 minutes as a striker. Similar output to Demarai Gray for us who was a winger. He's absolutely not good enough for the PL. Not a PL level player. Losing Dewsbury Hall and signing Broja, O Hare and Carvalho would be one of our worst ever transfer windows in our history. Far worse than the one we just had in the championship with Mavididi, Winks, Fatawu. Thankfully you are not our DoF, gives some perspective that it could be worse than Rudkin.
