  1. Feels like a risk but a reasonably well calculated one. I wouldn't want to see us lumbering ourselves long term with big wages for 30+ players but I'm happy with a one year loan if supplemented with some moves for under 25s with potential sell-on value elsewhere. Have seen some concerns about his personality but that's one of the more appealing aspects of this move for me. We've had a soft underbelly for quite a few years now - even last season we seemed too nice. He can be an aggressive player at times - we need a bit of that fire.
  2. With what we currently have: Mads Ricardo Vesty Faes Justin Buonanotte Ndidi Winks Fatawu Mavididi BDCR Not great is it?
  3. He’ll need to play well or it will be goodnight to the Premier League.
  4. If attending this kind of event is not part of her role, I don't understand what her role is. Being generous, it's summer so maybe she was on holiday. Guess we'll find out how seriously the club is taking fan engagement if she turns up to the next event of this kind.
  5. Thorpe was one of my favourites when I was first getting into cricket. Such an elegant batter. He had a few personal troubles but his comeback in 2003 was special. That image of him and Nasser Hussain walking off in the dark at Karachi in 2000 is iconic.
  6. I try to be fairly optimistic but it’s hard to see anything other than relegation at this stage. Weighing up the positives and negatives: Positives: - Good goalkeeper - Reasonable depth in full back positions - 2 solid options in defensive midfield - Fatawu and Mavididi should get get goals and assists - A manager with experience of a successful relegation scrap Negatives - Our centre halves are either old and slow (Coady, Vesty), young and untested (Okoli, Nelson) or hotheaded and annoying (Faes) - We have no creativity or goals in midfield - Our best striker will be 38 this season - We’re going to get a points deduction I think we’ll be better defensively than in 22-23 but ultimately struggle to score enough goals.
  7. You're right. On the other hand there are thousands of books I still want to read and if I'm lucky another 40 or 50 years to get through them. And very few of them will get me so riled up I can't sleep.
  8. I'm not much of a gamer but bought Thank Goodness You're Here on release yesterday after reading a review. It's fantastic. I don't think I've ever played game that's made me laugh so much. Maybe not one for serious gamers but if you like very silly humour you'll love it.
  9. My issue is it's very useful for work, which is why I initially joined it. There's no doubt I miss stuff when I'm not on it. But I undoubtedly feel better when I don't visit the site and have pretty much stopped posting anything there now. My initial plan is not to use Twitter at all in August and see how it goes. Only been a couple of days so far but my head already feels lighter. It's an absolute cesspit.
  10. BlueSky is essentially Twitter of a decade or so ago - it looks and operates very similar. Unfortunately not enough people have switched over so it's still a bit quiet. A lot of people have built a brand on Twitter and are reluctant to give it up.
  11. This is very upsetting news. As others have said, that Sevilla game is my favourite ever in my 30+ years watching Leicester. A lovely man and a hugely significant figure in our history.

    The gym

Have you tried a trap bar? I found it a good way to ease back into deadlifts after doing my lower back. It still works your glutes and hamstrings but the weight is more evenly distributed.
  13. No idea if what you're saying has any statistical backing, it's probably difficult to find out. But I do think there's something about what you're saying about attacks by ethnic minorities looming 'large in the public memory'. The attack in Plymouth a couple of years ago where a 22 year old white guy inspired by incel culture shot and killed 5 people didn't spark any public protests and has largely faded from memory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_shooting. Similarly the killing of three women with a crossbow only last month didn't lead to anyone smashing up a town centre or assaulting police officers. The murder of Sarah Everard did lead to protests, but these were largely peaceful. That's an incident that certainly looms large in the minds of many women I know. Perhaps it's just easier for to people to target their aggression when there's an obvious 'other' to go at.
  14. England unchanged for the third test tomorrow. Thought the whole point of retiring Jimmy was to try out potential replacements for next summer against India and Australia the following winter. So what's the point in playing Woakes and Wood every game, with Pennington and Potts not getting a sniff?
  15. A good summary here: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/the-hundred-2024-ecb-shop-window-for-private-investment-1444241
  16. My fear is the Blast gets eaten up by this new iteration of the Hundred with franchises linked to IPL clubs. The Blast is a fantastic competition, I live in Manchester so go and watch Lancashire pretty regularly. It's popular with kids, affordable, fun, great quality, and all the counties are involved. The Roses game between Lancs and Yorkshire is a real spectacle (when it's not rained off). Would be an absolute travesty if it ends up being sacrificed at the behest of international investors. For the future of the game I feel it's really important that a 10 year old in Worcester, Canterbury or Leicester can go watch a game of cricket on a Friday night and their parents not have to pay through the nose for it.
  17. I like Cooper, seems a good bloke and I’ll back him. But with the points deduction and off the pitch shenanigans he’s being set up for failure.
  18. Really hope I’m wrong. But everything about this season, from the departure of our player of the season and manager to this absolutely honking kit, screams 03-04 style comedy relegation.
  19. Can see it being Lee Carsley. Not the most exciting appointment and I'm sure the press will be on his back straight away. The fact he's an Irish international complicates things somewhat given that's England's first game in the Nations League in September. But he's done very well with the U21s and promoting from within has worked out pretty well for Spain and Argentina. As others have said here, of the elite managers available only Tuchel woud realistically take the job, and he'd inevitably end up nutting a member of the royal family or something. Not that I'm against that.
  20. Only the opposition and third largest party are allocated a set number of questions at PMQs. Beyond that there isn't a specific allocation by party. If you look at the Lib Dems in the last Parliament who were the fourth largest party they only occassionally had MPs selected to ask questions. So you'd expect to hear from Farage at PMQs maybe 3 or 4 times a year at most.
  21. I don't know what they're for but it's clear what they're against - hemming trousers.
  22. A welcome return to naming government departments based on their functions rather than political slogans.
  23. I am somewhat torn. Clearly FPTP leads to lots of people feeling disenfranchised and disengaged from politics. On the other hand it allows the electorate to punish bad governments very effectively. If voters want to hand out a beating, as they have in this election, FPTP provides the opportunity to do that in a way more representative systems don't.
  24. I had a feeling something was going on in Leicester East but Leicester South has come completely out the blue. Anyone here got any info on what's gone on?
  25. A new dawn has broken, has it not?
