HoneyB just rates our young players highly and is venting his disappointment in them not being utilised. I disagree a little with him when it comes to Monga. I think bringing him into games at his age and with his dynamic isn't a bad idea. Not least because he can play across the attacking line so he can come in if Fatawu needs resting as well as replacing underperformers, as he has so far with Mavididi who really needs to step up. But the ineffective form of Mav does lend itself to giving Monga a start now. But I do think we should be looking at Page and Aluko. For me they're fast, physical, had good preseasons, and merit being in the mix to start because frankly the players we do have starting aren't exactly putting on a show are they? Well.., A shit show I suppose.

I'd wager having nobody to play off is messing with his ability to perform at his best. There's no target to cross to, there's no 10 or high 8 to play off of, there's no overlap from the fullback. It's literally get the ball and face up your opponent. And not even in situations where getting the better of them puts you in a good position.

We had the numbers to cover that, but that's wank.

When you've got no pass inside and no overlap then the defender knows Fatawu has no option but to run at him 1v1, and that makes it a much easier task to defend against.

The only concern for me, and it's not really a concern yet, is that the things you could see him implementing in preseason that looked good don't really seem to be happening in the competitive games. The 2 things mainly. 1 being the press. We were using a pretty intense high press in which even Skipp appeared useful in pressuring opponents, and it was organised with players pressing together and really chasing players down. That seems to have gone out the window. Number 2 is the fullback positions. So we had 1 invert and one support the attack with the winger. But against Wednesday we didn't really see JJ invert into the midfield and we didn't see Thomas getting up front to support the winger aside form one effort by Thomas in the first half. I'm not really sure how he's structuring that now. It seems way more erratic. But as said, he's not up to speed yet. Plenty of time for things to get better.

If we keep the players we want to keep, I think we will be fine with just getting in that elusive striker and perhaps a CM. Monga and Fatawu running the wings would shit on any other wide duo in the league. It's just getting the ball to them. Is Bilal, Winks and Page too lightweight a midfield trio? If not, that's fxxking tasty.
