    Fulham

I sympathise with anyone putting themselves through this today but I guess it is choice Id like to hope that something could click but honestly, it’s the same week after week and we know Fulham will have their easiest game of the season and cruise to probably a 2-0 win in first gear without breaking a sweat. This issue of conceding is probably now a mental thing for the players as much as fans. We are now expecting to concede a minimum of 2 per game. It then becomes whether we can have a good day and keep it to 2, and whether we can score twice up the other end to rescue just a point. Any wonder we are losing week in week out? It’s why I was disappointed to concede 2 in the cup last week but just for the response ‘jUsT eNjOy ThE win’! It would have been beneficial to just break that rut but it carried on against a mid table Championship QPR b team with our first team out. And surprise surprise it carried on into the Palace game.
  2. I’m not sure on him really. Clearly he has walked into an unfortunate situation, particularly with the injuries. Cooper didn’t leave us in a terrible position in the table but the loss of Fatawu, Ndidi and Mads either before he took over or shortly after in Mads case needs to be taken into account. But at the same time, I’m just not seeing much of anything to get inspired by long term. Whilst it might not be his fault, I also think if he had a makings of being a really good manager, he would be managing to get more out of them than he has these last 6/7 games. Not massively much more, but something. I just also don’t think he would be right for the Championship. All his playing and coaching career has been top end and top flight. Is there any evidence he would know what it takes to get his hands dirty in the second tier? He’s here for the season for me. No point in further changes. I personally think that we are done. We aren’t going to pick up unexpected points and we have run out of games against those around us to put up a points haul serious of survival. The home losses to Wolves and Palace have been terminal. But I think start fresh in the summer. Danny Rohl would be my first choice as he is working wonders under a pretty identical owner. I also keep getting drawn to the job Richy Wellens is doing at Leyton Orient. Will be interesting to see how they end the season.
  3. Could flip that to say that some of those gagging to get rid now will be criticising ‘should’ we find ourselves relegated and either without suitable options up top (in the event of an embargo) or massively overpaying for someone who doesn’t offer any more than Cannon, for not looking ahead. FYI, of course it’s no good loaning duff signings out to eternity. I’m not sure Cannon, young player in depend on a long contract fits that though. I do get the ‘strike whilst the iron is hot’ theory. But with a lot being up in the air, I personally just think this decision could have been shelved to the summer but we are all entitled to our opinions.
  4. Let’s just at least make sure we are accurate here. 423 minutes in the Championship for us last season which is equivalent of 4.7 games. Mostly a few minutes at the end of games.
  5. Short sighted me me. This squad is so broken, we simply aren’t going to be able to fix that in what is left of this window. Add to that our recruitment is awful, who actually has faith that we will spend whatever profit form Cannon wisely? Also, it’s all very well saying £5mill is a £20mill signing over 4 years or £25mill over a 5 year contract etc but what about where that money is coming from in the next year or after that? I would say it’s far more likely we end up back in the EFL, possibly under an embargo without a decent striker than it is this small profit will fund survival. I hope to be wrong of course.
  6. To be proactive. Not to have allowed the Rodgers situation to reach the point it did. Rodgers wasn’t in charge of sacking himself. Run the club smartly to maximise what can be achieved within the (albeit stupid and uncompetitive PSR rules). PSR isn’t the problem, signing the likes of Danny Ward for £12.5 mill and Skipp for £25mill and paying the likes of Ward and Choudhury in excess of £50k per week, having awarded them new contracts on terms they nowhere near deserved is the problem. Think outside the box on recruitment of playing staff and management. Tap into markets where we can bring gems in with potential high reward. Have a joined up strategy that has contingency plans in place. Not bouncing from Enzo to Cooper to RVN and having a squad of misfits put together by regimes with very different principles. Basically there is loads that can be done to run the club more effectively within the constraints. There are a number of clubs doing so at the moment.
  7. Great result for Richy Wellens and Leyton Orient, beating Derby to set up a tie with Man City. Seems a good young manager, working his way up the right way and gaining good experience.
  8. How old is he now? I thought he was getting on and looking to slow down back when he was with us and wanted to be closer to home in Lancashire when he went to Everton (figures why he is in North Carolina now ). Ive looked it up and to be fair, most links put him at 60 but also refer to him as our former centre back….
  9. I don’t think the question was one that involved living in the past, it was about now and which other owners in this league would we take, whilst our current owner is taking the club down the drain I will add. Brentford and Brighton work heavily upon data analysis. Villa changed their back room staff and brought the right people to world alongside Emery. Bournemouth actually use their multi-club model well. Fulham seem to recruit well also. Our owner does none of the above. Those clubs are smartly run. We are not. As @Leicester_Loyal says, you have to separate Vichai from Top..
  10. Erm…Brighton, Brentford, Fulham, Villa and Ipswich. Those are the obvious ones without any ‘Big 6’ clubs or vile regimes/owners like Newcastle and Forest. Edit, can add Bournemouth in there too.
  11. Completely get what you’re saying. It depends on your outlook I.e short term or long term. My view may be different if we didn’t have all sorts hanging over us in the event of dropping back down. As far as I’m aware, it is not out of the question we get a transfer/registration embargo. At the very least, we are likely to have a lot of noise going on that could disrupt our summer as it did last summer and possibly has been doing this month. My fear would be, we get rid of those who are likely to be key players for us, end up with embargo and setting ourselves back further. In our position, both in the table at the moment and with the trajectory, as well as off the pitch stuff, I really feel that we need to be organised and plan ahead and look to the medium to longer term. Short term thinking in this case, it likely to set us back even further. Just my view.
  12. Regardless, it doesn’t seem the right time to flog as we don’t know yet what he will do. I get the similarities to Nugent and even if he became exactly like Nugent, that’s not a player we should be turning our noses up at in our situation. We might go down and bounce straight back up, make some profit. We might linger in the Championship and have a reliable goalscorer on our hands. Hell, we might even do a stint in League 1 if we continue to be so badly managed and he might be above us. The consensus from those wanting to sell seems to be a doubt he will become a top half Premier League striker. Probably not be it’s unlikely we will be at that level either for the foreseeable!
  13. I’m not saying he will or won’t make it. I’m just making, what I thought, is an interesting observation that actually, in the last 10 years or so, the main English strikers we have had, have come through a bit later. Obviously Vardy is a freak case hence pointing out particularly Watkins and Toney. As you say, keep him for the Championship next season. If he continues to do well, we can probably sell him for at least what we get now. I get also the point about underlaying data and no doubt it is important. But did those I highlighted have that? Toney was ditched by Newcastle and ended up back as low as league 2 I think. Nobody even lower in the EFL took a punt on Vardy. Nobody picked up Watkins sooner. Kane is different as presumably Spurs saw the potential in him the whole time.
  14. Maybe a case of not yet. It’s not to say he can’t. England’s main strikers over the past few haven’t reached this level at a particularly young age. Vardy - the obvious one, 25 to be in the EFL and what 27 in the Premier League. Kane - didn’t pull up any trees on loan with us in the championship in his early 20’s. Watkins - only moved from Exeter to Brentford in the Championship at 22. Took until 25 to be in the Premier League with Villa. Toney - was obviously signed by Newcastle younger but considered not good enough and dropped back down the leagues. Was about 24 when he finally made the Premier League with Brentford. And those are just the best in recent years. Point being none of them were doing it in the Premier League by 22. Stoke are also quite crap and he’s far from the biggest issue. I’d definitely leave on loan, maybe Robins will be better for Stoke and Cannon. We are pretty certain then to have a season in the Championship next season. Even if we bounce straight back, he’ll be 18 months or so older and more experienced so then we can judge. That’s assuming he carries on showing development and progress in the Championship this season and next.
  15. They’re right though even if the way they replied to you has triggered you. You can separate the two things, i.e being happy for a non-big 6 club to win but then Forest themselves being that club. The poster made good points regarding fan base but you can also add to that competition for talent within the region. Either way, can you make an argument for Forest winning the league and that not being bad for Leicester? From the above factors and just from it tarring our own achievements. I suspect you can’t but I’ll willingly hear the argument as to how it is a good thing for us. With the above said, Leicester fans should want what is good for Leicester and of course, want to avoid the bad. That is why I simply cannot get my head around people saying they want Forest to win the league unless they are playing the little ‘I don’t care’ game that their lot play. As I have said, I don’t even hate them myself. This is purely about how it affects my club. I wasn’t as bothered about Villa and Newcastle finishing top 4 the last couple of years apart from being pissed off at how much it showed Rodgers had failed those 2 years.
  16. It’s a load of crap and I agree with the suggestions above about financial recompense etc. In this case, why wouldn’t he go though. Man City, Liverpool, PSG whoever. Any of those he is more likely to be given a shot at senior level quicker than he would with us. The rules might mean we lose some of these youngsters. The fact we are a shambles will cause us to lose them more regularly.
  17. If he can’t get near our side (championship quality), he probably has no chance of a loan at that level. He probably needs to go down to League 2 to get minutes.
  18. 2017/18, we dumped Sheffield United out of both. 4-1 at Bramall Lane in the league cup (night before I went on Honeymoon so I remember I should have been packing), and the FA cup the following Spring at the KP.
  19. He’s above us now. A non-starter. If he wants to be local, Villa or even Forest are more likely for him.
  20. Of course yes, you are correct but I think you also probably know what I meant in terms of youngsters. Kacey, Hamza etc are clearly first team players even if yes, they have previously come through the academic. Certainly nothing to do with RVN or even Cooper. And again as clearly as I have to keep reiterating it, I am not suggesting the starting 11 should have been full of academy players. I have stated that what I mean is, we have 9 spaces on the bench. Previously it was 7 and I remember when it was 5. I’m sure there’s people on this forum that remember when it was 1. Despite this, why wasn’t there have been a space or 2 for any of those excelling in the youth team? If the game was tight, we wouldn’t have needed to risk chucking them in. As it was, we were 3 goals to the good for 30 minutes. Nobody can tell me and give me a good reason why it is a positive thing that we didn’t have anyone we could have given an opportunity to in that situation. Can you? As for your last point, how we will know they aren’t good enough if we don’t play them? If you aren’t going to do what I have said above in a situation like yesterday, what is really the point of the academy with managers like we are appointing? The only manager in recent times who has shown any likelihood of giving youth a chance is Maresca.
  21. Dominant team in their league though. That doesn’t mean he can translate that to this level without being scared to do so. Sorry but that was a huge red flag. As I say, this is not about starting half a side of youth players. I am specifically talking about the 8 and 9th sub spots. What justification can you give him for not even putting a single one on the bench yesterday? Because, by the way, if that has been Cooper yesterday, he’d be rightly slammed for not putting anyone at least on the bench and I hold RVN to the same standard even though many don’t.
  22. 2-2. We know we will concede 2. Scoring 6 yesterday gives confidence we can score but I don’t think that will translate to us scoring enough to win with our handicap of 2 conceded. And a draw won’t be enough.
  23. It’s not even a case of starting or not starting but that was the type of game to have sub spots 8 and 9 for a couple of the youngsters. We were 3 goals to the good for the last half an hour. But no, better bring BDR on for some much needed experience! RVN has gone down in my estimations for that. Next season we will need someone genuinely willing to bloody youth if we are in the Championship, on a budget and possibly an embargo. RVN just talks the talk but is too scared.
  24. Why would people be miserable if we won the cup? I agree that you can only beat what is in front of you. And as I said, as a stand alone, it’s a good day, job done and into round 4 which is exactly what I said. I do think it’s fair to look and see what we can take from it into the league games and future rounds of the cup at that. Given the defensive frailties still showed, it doesn’t suggest there will suddenly be an increase in the teams in front of us that we will beat is my point. But that is an entirely different matter from enjoying todays result and suggesting that anyone who is looking at the wider picture is miserable is unfair in my view but your prerogative.
  25. So I wasn’t on the match thread so that can’t be levelled at me But it’s a case of looking at it in a balanced way. A win by a 4 goal margin is great, being in the next round also. Job done. As someone else said, with them playing their ressies, how good were we? Hard to judge really. Scoring 6 at any time is great and worth the entrance fee for those who went. You wouldn’t come away grumbling about only scoring 4 if that was the case anyway. But it’s a shame we still managed to conceded 2. This seems a monkey on our back as it has been said a lot, we need to score minimum of 2 to get anything as is it only 3 games this season where we have conceded less than 2 and one clean sheet? It’s one of those where even though it’s the same winning margin, a 4-0 win would have almost seemed more positive than 6-2 if that makes sense.
