  1. Nothing to do with yesterday as I was saying all through January about the central midfielder issue with losing Ndidi and Casadei with it already being a position we weren’t blessed with strength. However @Sly makes a very good point about adding increased quality given that we do at least have decent numbers in the squad. Sometimes it’s just about adding a spark to a squad in January. Southampton also already had good depth but look at the impact Brooks and Rothwell on loan are making. Ultimately we had to do the right thing financially by the club. It’d have been nice to add a loan (as above the Southampton ones are loans) but who knows, maybe nobody was available that fitted or would have been a worthwhile addition. It’s the old if you’re not improving your squad you’re standing still which can be a problem if others are improving. Hopefully it’s a calculated decision based on our lead and squad available and we have enough to see the job through.

It’s clear what he meant. Some people are very quiet in the all the games when he is scoring, assisting and contributing towards some great wins but are straight on here the days when he doesn’t, despite being far from the only one to miss sitters yesterday. Whether it’s deliberate dislike or unconscious bias, he is definitely a scapegoat and held to a different standard by some…
  3. Off the top of my head I can only think of Coventry on the opening day. Probably quite a small sample size of game we have thought but I was thinking this yesterday that when we have conceded first, I couldn’t think of any examples aside from Coventry where we have managed to turn it round.
  4. This sums up where I’m at and I agree that the recently years have probably left a toll! Clearly our position and standing relative to expectations etc is a different story to when we were punching above our weight in the top 4 and got reeled in by teams spending obscene amounts to do so whereas we do genuinely have the one of or the best teams in this league so hopefully that is the difference when all said and done. But all these stats about ‘they have made one point up in 10 games’ doesn’t take into account a drop in form ourselves (not even necessarily an implosion as you put it). I just look at it as teams behind us are winning every week and if we don’t ourselves, there’s a risk there even though yeah, you’d think there’ll be plenty of dropped points for all of us during the run in. Somehow it’s the ‘we’ll be fine’ crew that make me feel more nervous. These are likely the same people who never entertained the idea we would get relegated even going into the West Ham game or that we wouldn’t make the top 4 even when the signs were there. Their record of predicting we’ll be fine it very poor let’s say. Clearly outright negativity can be boring to read (but is just those individuals venting on a forum) but I also find those shouting everything down with ‘we’ll be fine’ boring as well. I think you can still be positive and be getting behind the team whilst being a little bit nervous which is a balanced feeling. Anyway, our losses have always been followed up by a good run of form so let hope we can do the same again this time!
  5. Interesting that there are some very capable sides there who have to either play all 4 of us or 3. Middlesbrough all 4 (well before yesterday), Hull all 4 and Coventry and Sunderland 3. These teams can have a major say and are all vying for the final play off place if we assume West Brom are safe (which given they only appear on our list above, you’d assume that means they have a decent run in). Other observation is how the hell do Ipswich still have Rotherham, Huddersfield and Sheff Weds to place! It felt like they had months of the season where they were also playing poor teams on a cycle so without wanting to do the old ‘Rotherham and Huddersfield every week’ joke, I’m surprised to see their fixtures left!
  6. Maybe semantics but clinical to me is how many chances are put away compared to those missed not how the chances come about. We had a game last season, I think Wolves, where we had 4 shots and 4 goals which is clinical. Goals being gifted speaks more to the creativity side if anyway.
  7. I think it is purely down to the collapses we have witnessed in recent years. The manager and many of the players have changed (and that is what ultimately will hopefully ensure the job is seen through) but it clearly has left its mark on a large number of the fan base and its natural.
  8. I’m not sure why you have had the reactions to this post you have. They have to be favourites for the game next week. They are 8 on the trot and at home where they are unbeaten. If they do win, that puts them 6 points behind. Their fixtures also look a lot easier than ours. If they did win next week, they’d have some serious momentum as well and arguably should claw that gap back. My thinking along those lines is based around if they win next week. If we turn up and put in a performance and come away with 3 points then the rest of the above is moot.
  9. It’s just part of the job as a football manager to put up with it I guess. Best way is to answer the questions in the way they deserve to be. I have absolutely no time for journalists, particularly those of a sports variety! This is what I liked about Pearson also but he did let the frustration get to him too often and let the journalists get under his skin which is of course, their aim.
  10. Man City and Liverpool both have separate winning runs of 17 and 18 games each in the past few years, in this era of them battling for the title for a number of years.
  11. Shit, hadn’t logged that Ipswich’s next 3 games are Swansea, Rotherham and Birmingham, 3 of the worst sides in the league and 2 at home! Got to be 9 points from 9 there you’d think!
  12. You make good points but with respect are you new to football . Supporters in biased to their own team and moaning about a rival shocker! I think you’re taking it too personally. You’ll see the vast majority are wanting you to do well and go up at the expense of Southampton and Leeds but Ipswich fans on here are happy to ignore that and moan about some comments saying you’re lucky! Of course those are based off the direct games between the two sides where the goals were fortunate deflections and red cards/penalties were missed in your favour. I’m not sure why people are raising own goals as a bar for lucky thought. After all we were beneficiaries of one against you at the KP. And Leif Davis does seem to be having his own personal contest as to whether he can get more assists or OG’s from left back . So it’s not like you’ve not been on the other end of those as well.
  13. Because we’re only 14 points behind them with a game in hand, beat them Win our game in hand, they lose to Leeds we win our game the gap is down to 5 points! I think the post about ‘only’ being 14 point behind is taking the piss. I think they did think they could catch us but you’d imagine pretty much now, after they have lost yesterday and we have won the last few, they’ll have realised their chances has slipped away compared to a few weeks ago when it was a semi-realistic or at least ambitious target!
  14. Hmm, suspected that was the case. I suppose it depends on your definition of ‘not come close’. Particularly with draws, you’re one break away away from losing the game so I’d say it isn’t really not come close but I get your point based on the balance of play and appreciate I’m talking hypothetical. Interestingly you have still still dropped exactly the same amount of points this season as we have (8) just from 4 draws rather than 2 defeats and a draw.
  15. You’ve had 4/5 draws at home and a whole host of narrow one goal wins, hardly looks infallible? That’s not be saying we will rock up and win by the way but your home record looks slightly flattering to say you’re unbeaten. I realise this is not taking into account the patterns of those games etc and just looking at results. We also have the best away record I believe and are clearly the strongest team in the league so logically, if anyone is to beat you at ER, it may as well be us!
  16. I agree with you here. I said further up, I don’t think losing the level of control we had in the first half was a plan (or at least not implemented as intended) by Enzo and I’m sure he’ll have told the players that. I think simply Wednesday upped their game and we didn’t need to extend energy doing more than we did. But you are right about there being some very touchy people about at the minute and it is obviously the wording you used (I think turgid) that caused you to get jumped on. I just don’t see how it needs to be criticise or justify and jump on the opposing viewpoint all the time. When commenting on a game, there are going to be positives and negative aspects to it but as long as that can be put across in a balanced and constructive way whilst appreciating the overall season we are having, it is part and parcel of a forum.
  17. First half as everyone has said was so enjoyable. I don’t think the stats did us justice as the number of fractional offside from Vardy and the couple where the ref pulled it back when we were through would have resulted in more efforts on goal and likely a bigger lead. Second half I think is being overanalysed. The point of energy conservation is correct and sensible but I don’t think it was a conscious plan by Enzo as we lost a lot of control and it looked to me anyway, like we probably used more energy than just toying with them in the first half. I think it was as simple as Wednesday coming out stronger and us not needing to find a way to counter that with our own changes and ‘go again’ as we already had the game won and for their improvement after half time, they never looked particularly threatening. It was just a drop off in the performance we had set first half and doesn’t need to be really criticised or justified. Pleased for Fatawu to add to his goals as for all the assists, he hasn’t scored many. KDH, what can you say! 22 contributions now. Importantly another 3 points and a game ticked off with Leeds gaining nothing and 3 points further from Southampton! On the energy saving point, I get the feeling with this side that once the job is done, in the final games of the season, we could see some big score lines rather than into beach mode.
  18. I thought so too. A lot of the good moves have resulted in Vardy being flagged to be fair so maybe that’s it…
  19. One for the gerriforward people
  20. Different interpretations then. I just took it to mean the ‘play’ was not good enough. Which of course it wasn’t but as I said above, not a reason to change what we are doing especially when the same player in the same scenario was key to our second goal. I agree that the poster was probably not being serious and/or only meant it in the way I have said. I do think the poster who told them to go and support another team however was being serious which is what I was picking up on.
  21. Probably will be. Well it’s probably ok for us either way. Luton are making a strong go of it (yesterday aside) but if they stay up, reek of a second season syndrome side (and not the second season syndrome where you win the league 5000/1)! So the league would be weaker in that respect. But you cannot deny it would help us having Forest and/or Everton starting on -points next season.
  22. Cyclical foul implies a shirt pull or something harmless to the opponent but to gain an advantage. As people have said further up the thread, he was going for his achillies so it was an attempt at causing injury by the looks of it…
  23. Wednesday seem to be a bit of a bogey side for us. Sheff Utd I can only remember good results against so had a quick look and 8 wins and 2 draws in our last 10 meetings with them going back to 2008! But yeah Wednesday is a lot worse, 5 defeats, 4 wins and a draw in the last 10 meetings.
  24. Of course. And you’re an extremely balanced poster by nature so I’m sure we have the same view, it was a bad mistake but as I say, no reason to hound Winks out and nobody is from what I can see. I mean posts like one that just said ‘not good enough’. To me, that just refers to the implementation of the passage of play which yes, wasn’t good enough. And the poster was told to go and support another team? Im sure some will use it as fuel for an agenda against the style of play. They are entitled to that view anyway and we know there are a section of supporters who just won’t get behind the style. Of course, as is regularly said on here, the benefits and goals scored as a result of the build up (including the second in the game yesterday), outweigh the odd times it goes wrong like the Watford goal so to those of us who are balance and supportive of what is happening, there is no cause for concern or change.
  25. Some serious overreactions on here. Nobody’s called for him to be dropped, transfer listed or shit or anything daft like that. Some have purely just commented it was a bad mistake and are getting told to go and support other teams!
