Wow a whole once compared to how many times we haven’t? If you think last night was justification for sitting on 1-0 leads I can’t help you It was down to Sunderland being dire. Maybe a handful of teams in the league we’d have held out against and they were one of them. Most would have forced a result by sheer grit even if low on quality. That game just looked like a match up between 2 basement dwelling sides. There was probably more quality in the genuine basement battle between Rotherham and Wednesday last weekend!

Makes you wonder what things would be like if we had gone for McKenna in the summer. Maybe he is just one of those who works at one club or maybe he wouldn’t have been the right guy to quickly lift the gloom at the start of the season. But if he could have done what he’s done at Ipswich with our players available, there’s a good chance we’d be out of sight!

To be fair they did come from 2-0 then 3-2 down against Huddersfield a couple of weeks ago. Whereas when we go 2-0 to even the poorest of teams, we will only ever pull it back to 2-1. 2016 was it the last time we came from 2 goals down to get anything in a league game…(stats courtesy of @Dan LCFC)

Hope so! It seems ages we have been stuck on 78. I think it was the same on 38 points which was I believe when we lost back to back in November. To get the next win and go into the 80’s could be huge psychologically.
-
How’s you work that one out? The 2013/14 side won 31 games and beat 100 points. This side is currently on 25 wins…. Maybe when all is said and done, they will win more than 6 more games this season in which case your statement will then be true. But they may also not reach that. All we know for sure at the moment is they have lost more games than Pearson’s side did all season with just under a quarter of the season to go!
-
Wow, thank you for the research and quite shocking. I was sure I must have missed something, a result under Rodgers or even Puel. When I pointed to the results in 2015/16 it was purely the last ones I could remember not that I thought it was nearly that long ago. Shocking stats! Even the Sevilla one, in the context of the two legged tie yes. But in isolation, it’s a game we were 2-0 down in and pulled one back but still lost (sound familiar?) and a separate game we won 2-0!

What was the point in them bringing back Wilder? What have they learnt? Nothing. May as well have stuck with Heckinbottom. If they were changing it as the stage they did, they may as well have brought someone young and forward thinking for the future. They just seem like they have less idea than we do and will just flit between Wilder and Heckingbottom rather than cast the net out. Contrast that to their neighbours in South Barnsley who were on something like 6 points when they brought in Rohl and are making a great fight of it.

He’s a Blades fan and is often at Bramall Lane a maybe not as unlikely as you’d think

Easily 2013/14. This seasons side have already lost more games now with a little under a quarter of the season to go. It’s also looking a taller order for this side to even reach 100 points let alone exceed the 102 from 10 years ago. People say this side was better because we have some top individuals but we had individuals 10 years ago who went on to achieve a lot more than these players now (except Vardy and Albrighton who have done it). People point to some disappointing results against the likes of Doncaster and Charlton but how’s that different to Middlesbrough or QPR? The point being it was less frequent and we didn’t seem to have glaring weaknesses that we have now back then.
-
No. There was a thread around the same time asking if this side was better than the 2013/14 team and many scoffed at the idea that 2013/14 were better but we are seeing this now. This side has already lost more games with 11 today. Unless we buck our ideas up, we could easily end the season with double digits in the ‘L’ column of the table. And yeah, the other one is whether they will break the 100 point barrier, specifically 102. It looks very doubtful right now, over 2 points per game needed. Hopefully we pull something out the bag and do beat it but it looks doubtful.

This is a fair point even though I do agree with my fellow Leicester supporting Jon than there’s a high chance we do see the game out at 2-0 but yeah you can rule anything out. But by the same token, I’ve seen Leeds fans saying the disallowed goal made no difference as you ‘would’ have won 3-2 anyway which is quite ridiculous in itself as that’s not how it works!

I have just replied to another post actually which covers this 👍. As I say in there, maybe you’ve been unlucky as we certainly haven’t been lucky in that regard.
-
I’m not getting into a debate about lucky vs not lucky here and stats do speak for themselves. But even spending more time attacking the opposition box isn’t a given of penalties. Not to speak the bloody obvious, but it’s whether your attackers are fouled in doing so. This whole penalty debate isn’t one I think is something that can be levelled at either club being lucky or unlucky purely by virtue of how many have they had. You can only really solve it by whether there have been individual decisions for or against your team. For example, off the top of my head, the only one I can think of where it was a crap decision in our favour for a pen was in the home game to Swansea a few weeks back when Daka went down but it wasn’t a foul. The rest there hasn’t been any debate about unless I’m missing any. We definitely has a clear one not given at Portman Road at Christmas so even off the top of my head, we are net even there. I’m sure you will have your own observations about your own decisions. Maybe you have had numerous stone walkers not given. Maybe your attackers are actually just doing something productive in the box before they can get fouled. Maybe they are falling over their own feet and knocking it out of play for goal kicks! I don’t know but just pointing out attacking the opponents box doesn’t automatically mean you should have had a load more pens. But unless you can point to penalties (other than the one I have highlighted) that we have had but shouldn’t, you also can’t say that we have been lucky in that regard.

Watch general sale and walk up ticket purchases come back like a shot -
It was the same 10 years ago when we won this league. We had a lot of pens and people were suggesting we had been fortunate/lucky. No…the Championship defences of that season had no way of dealing with particularly Vardy and Dyer. Penalties awarded is not a sign of luck with officials. Maybe if a lot are proven to be incorrect/soft maybe.

Surely there must be more recent examples of this but genuinely the last times off the top of my head I can remember were that run of games early in the title winning season, September/October 2015 time, when we came from 2-0 down to beat Villa 3-2 but then I think it was twice away at Stoke and Southampton where we were 2-0 down and rescued 2-2 draws. We were hailed at comeback kings at the time!

You’re feeling a bit better about it now then? -
I hope you are right. I disagree still we are in a far better position than our rivals but I take your points. And I’m certainly not a doom and gloom fan. There are plenty on here and not myself I assure you! Realistic yeah, scarred from recent years, definitely. Have my moments after particularly bad defeats sometimes..yeah like many of us. But generally I try to stay positive, just not to the extent you obviously do! Remove the specific teams from the example though and emotion towards Leicester and think about what I have said. I’m basically suggesting that being in second but only say 3 points behind the leader but in much better form and closing the gap by the week is not as clear cut as being at the top automatically being better. The goal is to be top after 46 games not 36 after all! But yes, if you are confident that class will show through that’s fair enough. There’s many posters that are generally quite balanced and not of the negative side who are quite concerned right now though.
-
Look I didn’t mean to get into a whole back and forward with you. I also wish Ipswich well and didn’t mean anything by my comment. You are where you are on hard work, persistence and yes, quality. I simply don’t think we are in a better position purely because we are top by 3 points now. You or Leeds might lose your next two whilst we win ours. It’s football and anything can happen. But at the moment, 3 points looks nothing with the form and fixtures for the sides. I hope I’m wrong and we are the two sides who go up 👍
-
Such a simplistic viewpoint. You don’t think momentum plays a part in football then obviously? You don’t think it’s better to be on a run of 4/5 straight wins than 3 straight defeats? You’re the kind of fan who will be saying everything is fine this week then kicking off next week if Ipswich are ahead of us because you’re only looking at the table not any other factors involved.
-
Disagree with this. Whilst there are the normal overreactions, we are certainly not in a ‘far’ better position than either Leeds or Ipswich now, even Southampton is debatably if you’re saying far better. As for who would rather be in our position, I would sooner be in Ipswich or Leeds position now. I wouldn’t have said that until this weekend but 3 points to Ipswich is nothing now. It’s one game. Form, momentum, confidence and sheer will to win mean far more at this stage of a season.
-
I was speaking for myself and the comment you picked up on. I was in the heat of the moment. I was not speaking for others. And I’m not in the heat of the moment now, you’re just being extremely argumentative. On the points in the bag thing, did you even bother reading what I said? I said means nothing now it’s so close. The momentum you have vs is is worth a hell of a lot more than 3 points we are still ahead. Make sense?
-
I do have the ability myself to think two different things but thank you for your obvious concern… Clearly it bothers you or we wouldn’t be having this tedious conversation but you’re not going to admit that so forget it! Points in the bag mean nothing now it has become so close. It is about momentum, will to want it and hard work. You and Leeds have this in spades which is why there’s little doubt in my mind you will be the top 2. Of course it’s not secure yet but I’m extremely sure this will be the case after 46 games unfortunately for us. Anyway, yourself and other Ipswich fans on here seem to miss the fact most of us have wished you well and been impressed with you throughout the season, keeping pace with 3 relegated sides as you say. It’s extremely impressive. Thats why it’s a shame you seem to pick up on the comments about good fortune and ignore all the positive comments made. People make comments in the heat of the moment. That one you originally quoted off me was when I was frustrated that Leeds had benefited from a moment of stupidity from Hogg for Huddersfield. You’ve probably also had your two luckiest games against us so it’s only natural people make generalisations from a small sample size that they see! That was why I said in the first place just to chill and not take it to heart!
-
Not at all, it’s good having other fans on here. But if you are worrying about what others are saying, you risk missing enjoying your success when it comes. Like us back in 2015/16, rather than worry about what Spurs/Arsenal fans etc were saying, we just let our team rub it in their faces. And no insecurity here, I don’t bother with what others are saying about us. And I’m realistic enough to know we are currently in the process of throwing our season so far away. I would very much rather be in both Leeds and Ipswich position right now. This is exactly what has happened numerous times in the past few years. The gap decreases and decreases until it’s gone. Exactly the same is happening again, so unless you’re worried about Southampton, don’t worry, your top 2 finish is secure. You won’t realise it now but it is!
