  1. I made exactly this observation a few days ago. We also saw this fantastic backtracking earlier which made me think maybe there was a glitch in the Matt-bot today.
  2. What this thread often seems to highlight to me is how much of a gap there is in UK politics for a centre / centre left progressive business friendly government to come in and absolutely clean up. The Tories are a complete shambles (and in large parts horrible cnts) and Labour just lack the credibility to capitalise on their incompetence. Can anyone see a new party or a resurgence of the Lib Dems happening at all over the next 5-10 years? Surely someone somewhere is thinking there's a gap to be exploited.

    Houses

London market is getting a bit ugly. Ours has been on the market for 5 months... we've reduced price twice, had no offers and only a couple of second viewings. We're a little out of range for most first time buyers so even if Phil drops stamp duty for that group I doubt it's going to help us much. We're now looking into putting it into a raffle which I like the idea of in principal just not sure how realistic it is practically speaking.
  4. Me and my Dad are going back to York Hall on 25th November for this Thoughts / tips on the card?
  5. Interestingly this is EXACTLY the sort of thing a Russian bot would say. Just saying.
  6. It's not that hard to understand all the hype is it.. he's British, he's young, he's likeable, his brand is being marketed very well, he's got a perfect record and he knocked out Klitschko.

    Depression

I think what's key for you mate is to find some common ground with the mrs and work together as a team. Both having different ideas over what will work is driving a wedge between you and not giving the baby the consistency it needs to develop a regular sleep routine. My wife and I were absolutely against leaving our daughter to cry. That was until we realised that the lack of sleep was severely impacting our quality of life and our relationship. Also bear in mind that what you think is the right thing by the baby is not always the case - what impact is it having when the baby picks up on the tension in its parents caused by lack of sleep (babies are very perceptive, they will pick up on frustration, anxiety, etc). Your partner seems unwilling to compromise. I think you need to encourage her to try your way / controlled crying just for a week or so, every day, and then see where you are. One week of lots of crying will have no impact on the long term health of the baby. It may not work but at the very least you will realised that to overcome any obstacles baby related or not you need to work together, not against each other.
  8. Maybe you and the 20k people that signed this petition should get in the sea and stop wasting people's time. How is this the most read article on the BBC.
  9. I would recommend the Michel Thomas language CD course - they are available for all main European languages. This really helped me get a foothold in Spanish while I was travelling in South and Central America last year. They will only really teach you to speak as opposed to read and write but for me that was perfect. The learning method is very powerful. By the end of 9 months, despite my wife doing most of the talking (as usual) given she was already proficient, I ended up at a decent level. Really rewarding overall.
  10. I think you are taking the example I gave a little too literally. The principle is we should have a better way of forcing a more even distribution of wealth. I spent nearly 6 months living in Mumbai and every day I saw extreme wealth next to extreme poverty. I have never gotten over the sense of injustice and disgust at how that situation is tolerated and often simply ignored as if it is just the way it is and nothing can or should be done about it. How can you have such wealth alongside people who cannot afford to feed or cloth their children? I guess what I'm talking about is beyond the scope of national politics and laws - reading the thread just triggered that same sense of wrongness that I felt in India about the state of our society and prompted me to think about mechanisms that might go some way to addressing it.
  11. Well obviously I'm not suggesting we only tax one billionaire 1% of £1 billion. I think you know that and you're just being a bit facetious. I have absolutely no idea how it would work but I fully agree with the principle of a system that forces a more even distribution of wealth.
  12. I guess the idea is not to take all wealth but just a small proportion of it. 1% of £1bn is £10m. £10m to a billionaire is nothing. To the worst off in society it is huge.
  13. I just completed this quiz. My Score 20/100 My Time 73 seconds
  14. Star Wars is rubbish East London is a nice place to live Economic growth is overrated Most football matches are a bit dull
  15. Brilliant night out at York Hall (apart from finding out you can't have a beer while watching the fight). McKenzie fight was astonishing. Don't watch huge amounts of boxing so maybe the fights are always like that at this level but f**king hell it was absolutely brutal. Not surprised McKenzie has retired. Both of them were warriors. Never seen a fight like it. Rest of the card was great as well, in particular the Liam Conroy win - think that came as a bit of a shock to a lot of the crowd. No idea if he'll make it in the big time but thought Daniel Khan looked really good. And Jack Newham had the biggest support of the night, maybe people are expecting big things from him - he can't be much over 18.
  16. Nice. Sounds excellent. Cheers for the tip as well. Have been to the ExCel and O2 to watch a couple of big fights but never been to my local. My Dad used to box a little when he was a youngster so although he's now 73 I'll keep my eye on him to make sure he doesn't start any trouble.
  17. Anyone ever been to York Hall in East London to watch boxing? I live round the corner and am taking my Dad on Saturday night. Heard it can get a bit rowdy. Sure it'll be fun. This is the card - I have no idea who any of them are.
  18. This isn't unprecedented either is it? They fired missiles over Japan in late 90's and again in 2009 if I remember what I read earlier correctly.
  19. He made the current lefties on here look like the alt right.
  20. Chandler was a good example of high intelligence put to the wrong use. Quite a fascinating poster all in all though
  21. El Empty - he was superb. Constantly telling stories about crack and what he got up to as a yoof
  22. Daggers at his best was probably the best poster this forum ever had in my opinion. Just went a bit tits up towards the end.
  23. Zingari once accused me of inciting violence at a football match because I stood up at the back of the Kop despite being asked by stewards to be seated. Apart from that little indiscretion he was a top poster
  24. Good shout. Complete with a flamboyant semi colon at the end of his name. Shrenchel was another good one. Think he won funniest poster when there used to be the annual awards.
