  1. Still - fair play to Asda for giving a pregnant woman champagne to say sorry. Jokers
  2. I injured me knee when marathon training last year which meant I was unable to do my 2 final longest training runs, and only ran a handful of times over the final 5-6 weeks before the marathon. I focussed instead on cycling to maintain stamina / endurance - the action of cycling also has a natural healing effect on the knee and surrounding area. I also did lots of yoga. On the day I ran pain free which was a massive, welcome surprise as I had previously been unable to run for much longer than 10 minutes before being in pain. It was a deeply unpleasant experience most of the time as 26 miles is a really long way but still, without pain I knew I could finish. Obviously all injuries are different but I think cycling and yoga are nearly always a good bet as part of any runner's broader training. Energy gels are a great tip as well, particularly as you may not have done all the long runs as part of your training. Those and race day adrenalin will no doubt get you over the line. Good luck.
  3. Something has gone terribly wrong with the university system compared to when I was at uni if that is an acceptable ratio nowadays.
  4. Recently started to listening to The Teacher's Pet which is a bit like an Australian version of Serial season 1. Only listened to the first 3 but would recommend.
  5. I can't quite get past the "I moved in with her and her ex-partner" bit. Astounding. Good luck to you, judging by your posts you have a lot to offer so be patient and it will happen.
  6. I agree that there are groups who are beyond hope but you don't need to win them over to get Trump out at the next election. I am sure there are a significant number of intelligent, open minded and broadly reasonable people who voted for Trump for any number of legitimate reasons. Maybe they are all seriously regretting their decision and have already changed their mind. Then again, if they haven't, calling them idiots might not help.
  7. Sorry to be a bore and I know it's tongue in cheek but isn't this the sort of thing that helped Trump win in the first place? General disdain for his supporters, tendency to brand people as idiots instead of debate with them, left-wing superiority complex, etc etc. This isn't necessarily targeted at you, more an observation that one of the themes of both Trump's election and Brexit was the way in which large swathes of the respective populations were ignored / treated as thickos for wanting to challenge the status quo. Seems like a risky strategy given where we are now.
  8. I actually think people seriously underestimate the potential damage that weed can do, both physically and mentally. By the very nature of it being thought of as a "lesser" drug people do not give it the respect they should and assume they can smoke it without any lasting side effects. I have seen first hand the damage it can do. It is not an exaggeration to say that in some cases it has ruined lives. However, unlike Matt, who uses this first hand evidence as a rationale for not legalising I think the opposite. Until we take control of the potency, improve education and increase awareness I think the tendency for it to do harm will remain higher than it should be. Much of the argument against also assumes that the legal status of the drug has an impact on users decision to smoke it. I would argue that now more than ever this is no longer the case. And fundamentally for me is the fact that the government have no right to tell people what they can or can't put into their bodies, as long as it does no harm to others. Drug policy will be looked back on as one of the biggest global failures of our time. The only encouraging thing is that an increasing number of countries are finally listening to experts and evidence and adopting a more progressive approach. Hopefully it continues.
  9. Although you'd prefer one about Ian Wright
  10. What is so hard to understand about basing a film around the story of a footballer who within 6 years went from playing for an obscure non league football team to winning the Premier league, scoring in a record 11 consecutive games and being a pivotal part of one of the greatest sporting stories EVER. Jesus.

    Fear of flying

Mindfulness including meditation sounds like a good approach for you. I can relate to the control issue you mentioned - not in the context of flying, more things like health and sleep but the underlying anxiety is the same and mindfulness really does help address that. Otherwise order some diazepam on the dark web or go to somewhere like India where they sell it over the counter and then you can self medicate. Flying on valium is a wonderful way to pass time.
  12. That was my first taste of Puel live. Possibly the shittest, sloppiest second half of football I've seen for some time. Aside from the Vardy chance and a bit of pressure in the final 10 mins it was painful to watch. Probably the most worrying part was listening to his post match interview with Stringer on the way home. He spoke in monotone for about 5 minutes about how good a performance it was. I get he may not want to openly criticise and also he sees it as a work in progress but he came across like he wanted more of the same, the only change being a bit more clinical in front of goal. It's a cliché but it really did sound like he was watching a different game to everyone else and that's quite worrying.
  13. Hats off to the chaps at the back of SK1. First game I've been to for a long time and despite a horrible performance was impressed by the sheer tenacity of that group of fans to keep singing. I assume you are all on drugs. No idea otherwise how you keep up your energy levels. Good, positive chants as well, bit of the old and new. Fair play. What was the 5%? 100% lies banner in reference to? Sorry if I've been living under a rock recently and this was obvious to everyone else.
  14. In that case the statistic's value is in highlighting the lack of women in doctor roles within the NHS. It now becomes a benchmark to evaluate progress towards having a more even split in future. In fact given the way NHS staff are paid it becomes quite a powerful measure... if the gap is lower next year it may demonstrate that women are better represented in more senior positions. Obviously it's crude but I think the simplicity of it makes it a powerful way to monitor progress and identify where there are not just genuine pay discrepancies but also a lack of women in better paid jobs.
  15. You wish you had only 12,000 posts Finners. Try 41,573 you prolific bastard.
  16. This thread I just had to pay a pretty large tax bill after we rented our place out temporarily last year (sorry for being such a capitalist pig but we needed to cover the mortgage while we were out of the country). I didn't actually realise you couldn't offset your rental income with mortgage payments - as it stands you can only use the mortgage interest and even that is gradually being set to zero by 2020. You can then claim maintenance costs and some other expenses but regardless I think renting becomes very unprofitable and actually loss making for many people, particularly if you have a mortgage on the property. Anyway you may already know about this but it was an expensive surprise for me last week so thought I would mention!
  17. Why isn't the question "Would you treat a transsexual as an equal"? Think you f**ked this one Matt, the question is ridiculously skewed to favour the conclusions you want to draw.
  18. What we need is a Code of Conduct that can help supporters understand what is required of them during a match. It should stipulate what to do in the event of a goal, a poor refereeing decision, a red card for the opposition and other scenarios. All fans would then be fully briefed on the requirement to stand in the event of a goal and also how may times to shout "f**king yes", how many bruises should be located on their shins if the goal was a last minute winner / equaliser, who to hug (being mindful of possible sexual harassment claims) and other important criteria that real fans should be demonstrating. Anyone seen not adhering to the Code of Conduct should be ejected / executed.
  19. I don't think anyone is angry specifically about Leicester being drawn against Man City. Rather the fact that the "big four" teams all avoided each other. I mean, it looks unbelievably dodgy right. Particularly when the draw itself was an utter shambles with delays and "technical" difficulties, i.e. it took them about 30 go's before the draw they actually wanted came out.
  20. Agree with Matt. They will be beaten eventually and we've already beaten them once under Guardiola. Why not again?
  21. I sold enough to get my original stake back when it was around $15k so I'm now just playing with profit. Given I effectively have zero risk I don't have a fixed level I'm looking to sell at, I'll just keep an eye on the news and see what happens.
  22. "Experts" called this a bubble that was about to burst when it was at around $4,000 (when I bought it). Back then being bullish meant thinking it would get to $10,000 within a couple of years. It's now > $17,000. The reality is no one knows what will happen as we have seen nothing like this before.
  23. I just completed this quiz. My Score 60/100 My Time 82 seconds
