Since 2000 however, when the "Big Six" money snowballed and their squads and youth academies expanded, the non "big six" winners have been: Leicester City (2000), Blackburn (2002), Boro (2004), Birmingham (2011), and Swansea (2013) In the last 24 years Liverpool have won it 5 times, Manchester United 5, Manchester City 6 times (in the space of 8 years and 4 in a row), Chelsea 3 times and Tottenham once. Non "big six" finalists in that time were: Tranmere (2000), Birmingham (2001), Bolton (2004), Wigan (2006), Villa (2010, 2020), Cardiff (2012), Bradford (2013), Sunderland (2014) and Southampton (2016). Newcastle were finalists in 2023 but that was after their acquisition by the Saudi state. My point is, these "big clubs" fixtures are only congested because they specifically chose to dominate these competitions.
