Chelsea if Newcastle win tomorrow, Newcastle if they lose. Think confidence wise missing out on another trophy will kill Newcastle for the rest of the season. The form Brighton were in up to today they looked like they might make a late run for it to be fair.

I owe Leon an apology. Start of the season I called his promotion out as a typical safe move from the club. In reality I’ve not seen our u21s play football like this before. I know there’s lots of individual talent but they look like a really solid group who know exactly what their roles are.

I think this is the problem with the 18 month 'win us a trophy' contract. He's got one job and one job only and he'll want 'leaders' in the squad, but that takes up spaces for good prospects. I doubt Walker and Henderson will get more than ten mins, but they're taking a spot that could be used to look forward. Guarantee if he had a 4 year contract that squad would look different.

If Southgate had selected that squad there would be murder.

Id love to get a hold of it, I’ve got a list of 20 things I could do in the first month that I think would completely transform things. Most of them wouldn’t cost a thing! Very early in my career I applied for a job with the club, was told my application gave the impression I’d struggle to separate being a fan and working for the club, they preferred hiring people who didn’t have an affinity with the team . Perhaps that’s changed now but they certainly come across as a club with not many “fans” as employees.

Plenty of terrible decisions made along the way too. Easy one to pick out - Essentially acting like we don’t have an U21 side during its most successful and exciting period in years is hilarious. Theres league 1 sides with dedicated social accounts for their development teams.

Reckon that’s when the club will implement the strategies that some clubs in league 1 and 2 already blow us out the water with?
