I don’t know. For me Cannon has done his job there and made the space. The main disappointment is the shocking finish. He didn’t get much of a look in but there was a moment just before that where he got a lovely ball to his feet in the box and was so slow to react and the defender took it off him easily. This is a good test. Instead of using the counties as a warm up game before the Metro Bank starts as they do now, why not make that the first round.

Certainly not saying it happens immediately. But if you dangle that carrot and say 'we're doing this in two years' it gives capable national counties the chance to at least try and get set up for it. I can guarantee you if Buckinghamshire got promoted for example, they'd have plenty of people interested in sponsoring them and I bet they'd pretty quickly be able to fill out their team with out of contract Div2 players and good Second XI players/loans
