New plans unveiled for former Leicestershire Hilton hotel - including Starbucks cafΓ© Plans include a gym and swimming pool Tess Rushin Local Democracy Reporter 19:03, 01 May 2026 New plans have emerged for a former Leicestershire hotel which closed at the end of December last year. The Hilton Leicester, near Fosse Park, was shut permanently by the previous owner Hilton Hotel and Resorts Group on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. The closure also marked the end for the LivingWell Health Club, leaving gym members searching for a new venue. Now, new owners Village Hotel Group have submitted comprehensive plans to redevelop the site β which is located close to Everards Meadows, Meridian Leisure and Business parks and junction 21 of the M1/M69 β to Blaby District Council (BDC). The building, which is described as containing 180 guest bedrooms, restaurant and bar areas, conference and meeting spaces, leisure and wellness facilities, including gym and swimming pool, will undergo what is described as a "comprehensive refurbishment" if plans are approved. Village Hotel Group said the hotel would be rebranded as a Village Hotel, with the refurbishment "enhancing the leisure offer of the hotel whilst also bringing the wider guest experience up to present day standards". An overall description of the works includes the demolition of the existing covered, roofed entrance structure β known as a Porte Cochere and replacing it with a new 'goal post framed' entrance. A glazed link corridor will also be built, alongside a single storey gym studio space extension. Refurbishment of existing areas, additional associated plant and machinery, access and landscaping are also included in the plans. The number of parking spaces will reduce from 224 to 212. Plans note the gym wing extension will provide additional space for fitness and studio use, "improving the quality and capacity of the hotel's wellness offer", while the new courtyard corridor will create a direct and accessible route from the hotel's main entrance and reception to the swimming pool area. The refurbishment and proposed gym extension is expected to create new space in the former meeting and event area, and a large openβplan gym alongside changing facilities. Documents note the foyer will be reconfigured "to deliver a more welcoming and efficient arrival sequence". As part of this enhancement, a new Starbucks cafΓ© is proposed in the frontβofβhouse space, with two reception desks for both hotel and leisure offers. The existing restaurant and kitchen will be fully refurbished, and the majority of the backβofβhouse areas and all 180 guestrooms will be retained in their current layout but fully refurbished. Plans state the swimming pool facilities and hot tub will be retained with the pool undergoing "targeted renovation to modernise finishes and enhance the wellbeing offer". Consultation on the plans is open until Tuesday, May 19. A decision is expected by Friday, June 19. -

'Huge win' for Leicestershire as works begins on major Toyota centre Developers said the project represents a 'significant investment' in regional employment News Samuel Kalantzis Reporter 06:00, 02 May 2026 Work has officially began for the construction of a major Β£31.5m Toyota centre in Leicestershire. Amphion Construction, won the contract to deliver the next-generation Fleet Management Centre for Toyota Material Handling UK (TMHUK) at Old Dalby Business Park, in Melton. The construction team, which has more than 300 employees, will develop the purpose-built 175,000 sq ft facility over the next 12 months. The multi-million pound site will reportedly showcase modern production and workshop areas, sustainable office accommodation, extensive indoor and outdoor storage, and a secure yard. Stewart Bowen, chairman of Amphion Group, said completion was targeted for early next year, subject to planning approval. He said TMHUK currently processes more than 12,000 trucks per year at its existing Old Dalby site, and the upgraded facility is expected to support the continued growth of the companyβs refurbished truck operations. According to Mr Bowen, the new centre is a "huge win" for Leicestershire's employment scene. He said: "The contract was a huge win for the West Midlands, the Black Country and for Leicestershire. "For this project, Amphion will have between 60 and 70 team members on site at any one time, supported by its integrated supply chain and in-house manufacturing divisions. "For Leicestershire and the wider Midlands, the project represents another significant investment in regional employment, advanced manufacturing and long-term economic growth." -
Story by Jordan Blackwell Gary Rowett said he could be βexactly what the club needsβ as he made his biggest appeal yet for the Leicester City managerβs job. Rowett rounded off his 14-game contract at City on Saturday, earning his second win, a 1-0 success at Blackburn. Now City have to decide who they want to lead them for what will be just their second-ever season in League One. And while Rowett has overseen the clubβs fall into the third tier, he set his stall to remain in the role, saying he could be the man for what is a βfantastic opportunityβ at the King Power Stadium. He said brave decisions need to be made as the rebuild gets under way. βI see a fantastic opportunity here,β Rowett said. βThereβs going to be some big decisions. Itβs going to need someone who is brave enough to make those decisions. βThis team needs to look very different, the culture needs to look very different. But itβs a great opportunity so of course I would like that opportunity. βBut whatβs more important is the club getting it right, because itβs a fabulous football club. βIβve enjoyed the 14 games. Itβs been tinged with frustration and disappointment that weβve played well in a lot of those games and lost four of them. We shouldnβt have lost that. We should have won a lot more. But itβs easy to say that. βItβs important the club get it right, whatever decision that is. But of course Iβd like this opportunity to rebuild this. I think I could be exactly what the club needs.β Rowett took 14 points from his 14 games in charge, and believes it could have been more had City had a killer instinct in both boxes. They showed more of that on Saturday at Ewood Park, helped by another excellent performance from Harry Souttar at the back on the Australian internationalβs second appearance of the season. Rowett said: βIf you look at the games, weβve conceded silly goals. They were almost comical at times. You canβt win games of football with that. βWe created the second most chances over the last 14 games but if you canβt take those chances, youβre not going to win games of football. Thatβs been the biggest frustration. βThe first half was a bit of us in the 14 games. We looked nice, we looked good, we were comfortable on the ball, we build well and get into good areas, but in both boxes weβve lacked that killer instinct that someone like Harry Souttar has. βEven our corners heβs getting his head on everything, so you can see the difference he potentially would have made. βBut thereβs no point crying over it now. Itβs nice that heβs back. Heβs had a long period out of the game so itβs nice that he can play the last two games. Now heβs got a big summer with Australia. Itβs really nice for him, he deserves it.β

Depends whether your a club that needs to generate big income to pay for new recruits and club overheads of which ours are big and heavy. I don't think filling a team with 25-30 years olds will do that. Of course you need experience but if you don't keep signing poor players and getting relegated that should come from the younger players that have stayed, grown and gained that experience. Ideally you want a stable team where you lose 1,2 or 3 players a year through sales and retirement/ageing moves to a lower level and the promotion of academy players and recruitment of young promising players You definitely don't want a stagnant aged team like we have: a team that you hardly notice is changing is the ideal I would say.

Leicester City Football Club Darren Motsi netted England U16sβ first goal of a 5-1 victory over Mexico to secure the Vertex Cup in the USA last week. -
That's simply not true Rowett quite clearly stated many times he preferred experience even though he recognised their potential hang ups having already experienced one relegation or rejection from their previous team. He also mentioned that the youth would bring energy and a fearless approach. Yet still stuck with the ongoing failures of experience. Youth had no chance of getting in the team in fact even on the bench.
