  10. Launched in 1974, the Saturday lunchtime television programme provided fans with interviews, analysis and stories from across the game before the weekend's fixtures. Changing audience habits have meant a growth in the use of digital platforms and on-demand to get the same pre-match content. As a result, linear television viewing figures have gradually declined since 2018. Football Focus will run until the end of the season. Alex Kay-Jelski - director of BBC Sport - said: "Football Focus has been a hugely important programme in the history of BBC Sport and has played a key role in telling the stories of the game for generations of viewers. "This decision was made before last week's wider BBC savings announcement, reflecting the continued shift in how audiences engage with football and our commitment to evolving how we deliver content to reach fans wherever they are." From next season, Kelly Somers' The Football Interview will move to Saturday at 12:45 BST on BBC One. Final Score with Jason Mohammad will start on BBC One earlier than it has this season - at 15:45 BST. Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes, Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike and Manchester United boss Michael Carrick are among the players and coaches to have featured on The Football Interview this season. BBC Sport says it will expand its digital output across BBC platforms, including exclusive shows on YouTube. The intention is to deliver more high-quality, accessible and engaging football coverage at scale.
  11. Lawyer who defended Leicester City apologises after relegation with heartfelt message Leicester City Lawyer Nick De Marco KC has apologised that he 'ould not do more' to help save the club from relegation. Taking to social media following the confirmation of City’s relegation on Tuesday night, De Marco wrote: “I’m terribly sad for Leicester tonight, having got to know the club so well over the last few years. “I’m sorry we could not have done more. It’s a great club with great fans, and some excellent people there. “Wishing them all the best to come straight back up next year. I will be watching League One closely next year hoping both LCFC & SWFC finish in the top 2.” The lawyer has been appointed by Sheffield Wednesday’s prospective new owner as they look to complete a takeover of the club.
  12. Dan Hunt East Midlands Published 23 April 2026, 06:13 BST Plans to redevelop a former dance hall in Leicester city centre that has been empty for about a decade have been given the go ahead. Leicester City Council has approved a planning application to convert the former site of the Palais De Danse in Humberstone Gate into an extension of the neighbouring Bee supermarket, three shops, a cafe and a restaurant. According to planning documents the former hall was a "prominent" venue in the 1960s, 70s and 80s with the space having since been occupied by different nightclubs. A report submitted by the applicant stated the site was "derelict" and the proposal would help the regeneration of the area. 'More attractive' "Clearly, the site is in a poor state of repair. Its failing facias, failing render and broken signage are a stark reminder that this popular venue has been vacant and derelict for many years," the report adds. A council report details a planning application to partially demolish the site and build a block of flats six storeys tall at its highest point was approved in 2018, however this was not implemented. The applicant Mr H Faraj added in a report the proposed development would increase daytime activity at the site, and would create a building that was "capable" of responding to future changes in demand. "Overall, the scheme represents a positive step in the on-going regeneration of the area, delivering a more attractive, functional and accessible building that contributes to the vitality of the city centre and enhances the experience of those who live, work and visit the area," the report states.

  19. This Is Football · Follow 15h · Football throws up some strange situations, but this one from the Dutch second division might be the most bizarre of the lot. FC Den Bosch need to lose their final game of the season against ADO Den Haag to give themselves a chance of reaching the promotion play-offs. Yes, you read that right. Losing is their best option. Winning could actually end their season. The explanation comes down to the Dutch league's complicated "period title" system. The second division season is split into periods, and winning a period earns a club a ticket to the promotion play-offs. ADO Den Haag have already secured a play-off spot through the system. If ADO finish in the top two of the current period as well, their spare ticket would trickle down through the overall league table to the highest-ranked team that doesn't already have a play-off place. That team is Den Bosch. So if ADO do well in this final period, Den Bosch qualify through the back door without needing to do anything other than wait. The problem is what happens if Den Bosch win. A Den Bosch victory over ADO could help rival club Vitesse overtake ADO in the period standings. If Vitesse claim that period spot directly instead of ADO, then there is no spare ticket to trickle down. Den Bosch's back-door entry disappears and their season is over. In short, Den Bosch beating ADO could hand Vitesse the very play-off place that would otherwise fall to Den Bosch. The best thing Den Bosch can do for their own promotion hopes is make sure ADO finish as high as possible in the period table, and the simplest way to do that is to let ADO beat them. It's the kind of scenario that sounds like it was dreamed up by someone who has never watched a football match in their life. A club actively needing to lose to give themselves the best chance of going up. You couldn't write it. The system has been criticised in the Netherlands for creating exactly these kinds of absurd situations, where competitive integrity is undermined by the format itself. Whether Den Bosch will genuinely try to lose, play a weakened team, or just go out and play normally knowing the maths is against them if they win, remains to be seen.
  20. Part of the problem on the pitch is they're all working to the same coaching manual. Before FIFA, UEFA the FA insisted on coaching badges you had managers with individual/unique and variable ways of playing. It's all been homogenised - changed so that all the parts or features become the same or very similar this enables the richer clubs to have even more domination. As for FIFA Infantino is way worse than Blatter both being corrupt and self serving but Infantino has the added character flaw of having a massive ego.

  23. Millions of UK households using illegal streaming devices warned in police crackdown Britons streaming TV via illegal fire sticks have been put on notice that they will be caught - as police plan to scrutinise their bank statements. Authorities believe approximately four million households are accessing the latest programmes and watching live sport illegally through "dodgy fire sticks". These compact devices plug into the back or side of televisions - and can be modified to unlock hundreds of premium channels, subscription services, the latest films and live Premier League football. However, police are confident they will pursue a number of those households with the latest crackdown, which centres on the examination of bank statements. Acting Detective Chief Inspector Alethea Fowler, of the Tarian Regional Organised Crime Unit in southern Wales, said: "Criminals rarely stop at just one income stream, and by purchasing illicit goods - such as an illegal streaming service fire stick - you are enabling further forms of criminality, often involving exploitation and harm." Police crack down on illegal “dodgy Fire Sticks” Police are reportedly compiling lists of users and their addresses, according to the Daily Mail. They have cautioned that they are aware the device - while legitimate in itself - can be tampered with or cloned by unscrupulous individuals or criminals who sell the devices on. Authorities warn that those possessing such devices could face fines running into thousands of pounds or potentially serve custodial sentences. The nationwide operation, designated Operation Eider, may result in unannounced visits to homes by officers armed with search warrants. The clampdown is orchestrated by the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT), an anti-piracy body backed by the film and video sector, with police forces throughout the UK participating. Officers can now impose stricter penalties on individuals discovered using these unlawful gadgets. Kieron Sharp, chairman of FACT, said: "We have a wide range of enforcement options - from issuing cease and desist notices to 'knock and talk' visits - through to full criminal prosecutions where appropriate. We will take robust action against those involved - not only targeting sellers and distributors, but also those facilitating and profiting from the illegal activity." Television viewers enticed to purchase an illegal device believing it will save them money may, consequently, discover themselves considerably out of pocket - while facing the prospect of imprisonment. The harshest penalties will be reserved for "supplying and distributing TV fire sticks and concealing bank transfers linked to criminal activity".
