Yep and the only way to reset Leicester and our approach in these rooms is to have someone new saunter in there and set out what we are. I get that we had to take risks and keep hold of our players to kick on, but he and the rest of the board have been shown up as completely naive and inexperienced in how to take a club to the next level. You can have an ‘elite coach’ and 100m training ground all you like, but poorly executing plan that strays away from what made you successful in the first place lands you in this shit.
All this points to a massive clear out of the decks at all levels. We’ve got 13 players who aren’t in their last year and don’t have resell value that we’ll start the championship with next season. Very loosely, the plan should be to clear out any earners higher than 50k p/w, fill the gaps with youth teamers, go back to data-based scouting and unearthing gems, as well as clearing out the exec team (Jon included) and a whole new coaching staff.
The bans and deductions will feel painful on us fans but it may force some radical and necessary change at the club. I love the idea mentioned earlier that Top could move to become a minority stakeholder so to honour his father’s legacy, but good god bring a main investor in who knows what they’re doing.
I’m not looking for Saudi or US mega investment, just preferably an owner who gets it and who’s literal culture doesn’t encourage them to cover things up in fear of losing face when we can all see what’s actually happening. Being relegated again is far more embarrassing than sticking their hands up and saying the whole operation is in the toilet and needs radical overhaul.
