sarbo12 Posted 6 May 2015 Share Posted 6 May 2015 Hi. I'm new to this forum my name is Sarah. I've always loved Leicester City but only had season ticket 3 years - wasn't able to come before then. Used to go with dad and brother as a child to Filbert Street. I travel with my kids from Stretton-on-Dunsmore, Warwickshire to watch the match. Always in a rush to get parked up-we then meet my brother and my niece for a drink before the game. We always park down the street where there's a fries shop on the corner. Very difficult to get a space though. As we're usually running past British Gas I wonder is it a car park for supporters?? Thanks in advance everyone.. Marmite Posted 6 May 2015 Share Posted 6 May 2015 I am pretty sure you cant, if your short on time why not park at the Citroen garage opposite the stadium. I think it costs a fiver

Countesthorpe Fox 1884 Posted 6 May 2015 Share Posted 6 May 2015 unless you have a permit (basically if you work for British Gas) you can't park in there
Bagworthblue Posted 6 May 2015 Share Posted 6 May 2015 true I'm afraid. I work for BG and park there but I'm checked for my pass each time I drive in.
LCFC FOX Posted 6 May 2015 Share Posted 6 May 2015 What time do you arrive? Saffron lane is free if your arrive before 1 on a 3pm kick off
kingcarr21 Posted 7 May 2015 Share Posted 7 May 2015 Mentioned this to everyone with car parking questions. Shakespeare Street off Saffron Lane is the best place to park imo. Doesnt cost anything and ive never had trouble parking there providing youre there early enough (Before 1:30pm for a 3pm kickoff). I used to park off Aylestone Road on the road next to British Gas but its a nightmare after the game. Aylestone Road is always rammed. Saffron Lane is loads better for traffic. Word of warning though. Against Newcastle my mate parked on Saffron Lane. Heading toward Aylestone Leasure Centre it was busy because we got caught in the traffic that was leaving the car park before Shakespeare Street. There are also traffic lights slowing you down. If you park on Shakespeare Street you avoid the build up from the lights and the car park. Since the car park has 2 lanes of traffic leaving it (obviously going both directions) its not a simple zip effect that takes place so it takes a while to get past it. I live in Glenfield and have found parking on Aylestone Road and along Saffron Lane has taken me an extra 20-30 minutes to get home. Park on Shakespeare Street and traffic is nowhere near is bad. Hope i havent waffled on too much but Shakespeare Street is defo the way to go if you dont mind a 10 min walk

Which way do you go to get there, took me 1.5hrs to get to Saffron Lane from glenfield via Fosse Park for the Newcastle game I had to park the far side of the reccy and had 15 minutes to get to the ground. We left at about 10:15am and went past fosse park. Then we turn left onto Aylestone Road and just before the British Gas building there is a right hand turn that takes you to Saffron Lane opposite the car park that is before Shakespeare Street. We were there in about 15-20 mins. We leave early and go for a pint at local hero before the game. Going by your times you left around 11am. Having to go past Fosse Park on a saturday morning is bad so we always go with time to spare.

Yes I did leave it a bit later than I usually do as we normally go for a drink as well but decided not to for this game as my son was with his son at his football training
Langley Posted 7 May 2015 Share Posted 7 May 2015 I think the Newcastle game was just bad around the City. A lot of shopping traffic and football traffic all got caught up at the same time.

kingcarr21 Posted 8 May 2015 Share Posted 8 May 2015 I suggest you go a little earlier so you can park nearer. ;-) parking nearer doesnt help out after the game though. Having a 10-15 min walk to the car to Shakespeare Street means ive normally got home around 20 mins earlier than i used to when i parked closer. stripeyfox Posted 7 August 2017 Share Posted 7 August 2017 Parking is generally a problem. I have an elderly aunt who lives on one of the permit parking streets near the ground so if I can I park there and she gives me a permit. The price can be high though as in exchange for this I am expected to sit there drinking sweet tea whilst she complains about her latest health problems or wants me to change lightbulbs, tune the TV in, move the fridge etc. Otherwise, Granby Halls (pricey), or as Kingcarr says, some of side streets off Saffron Lane are ok (if you get there early). Thanks in advance everyone.. There's an app/website called "JUSTPARK" you join up and rent people's car parking space. When Leicester play in London I rent a space near St Albans train station for £5 then get the train into London for around £12. I'm sure some people who live near the ground might do it. It's all over the uk and you pay upfront via PayPal. A great service and you can park cheap right near big venues ! Take a look !
