Haydos Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 But equally, I don't think Diego Simeone would have gotten anyway near the success with Barcelona that Pep did and nor would Mourinho. Pep didn't have Messi, Neymar and Suarez (arguably the best front three put together in modern football) to counter with, two of his most effective players (after Messi) were Pedro and Biscuits, who'd be on nobody's World XI. People are always keen to buck the trend and shoot down those who are successful (I'm guilty of it with Mourinho, I admit) but Pep's Barcelona were a force of nature and they needed him as much as they needed Xavi (who has never been as good without Pep at the club) or Messi. I much prefer watching this Barca than Pep's and I preferred Heynckes "Kloppo Clone" Bayern to the current one. But that's not to say Pep doesn't have a terrifying Bayern side either. What they did to Shaktar and Porto is illegal in several small countries. Absolute devastation. *Was there something in your previous post or is it all here now? No, but he still had Messi, Villa, Sanchez and still a very good Pedro. During Pep's reign (no doubt in some way down to him) Busquets made a transition to becoming one of, if not the best defensive midfielder in the world. He also had Puyol, Alves, Iniesta, Mascherano, Villa and Xavi in their primes on top of Ibrahimovic, Eto'o and Toure. Lets not mess around, the squads are fairly similar in quality, I'd say that Pep's was probably a little bit stronger overall (although obviously anyone would take their current front three). At the same time though he didn't need them, they wouldn't have fit his system as well. He played a part in choosing his players, Neymar and Suarez are much more direct. I agree about Simeone but I'm not claiming him to be anything out of this world either. I think him and Pep are similar in that they have their limits, like a lot of managers. He's not as masterful as Pep and his progressive tactics but he gets the job done. Given a choice of the two I would take Pep. Pep has always seemed to want to dominate the football pitch, but that doesn't always work. You do get the extremes and they have obliterated teams on occasion but for me to consider him to be one of the best he has to have more than one way of winning. They have been poor on the road recently. Take a leaf out of Mourinho's book and take a 0-0/1-1/0-1/1-0 back to the Allianz and do what you do best there. He naively stupidly cost them in that first leg. They were lucky not to be 2 or 3 down in the first 15 minutes let alone by the end of the match.
AKCJ Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Pep is the most overrated manager in the world.... How on Earth can you say that? Just look at his record. Barcelona La Liga: 2008–09, 2009–10, 2010–11 Copa del Rey: 2008–09, 2011–12 Supercopa de España: 2009, 2010, 2011 UEFA Champions League: 2008–09, 2010–11 UEFA Super Cup: 2009, 2011 FIFA Club World Cup: 2009, 2011 Bayern Munich Bundesliga: 2013–14, 2014–15 DFB-Pokal: 2013–14 UEFA Super Cup: 2013 FIFA Club World Cup: 2013 He's won 19 major trophies in 6 years. Football teams will always be compared to his Barca side which is undoubtedly the best of all time.
AKCJ Posted 11 May 2015 Posted 11 May 2015 Pep took Bayern backwards, he changed the way they play when it wasn't needed. EH? Bayern have had a win percentage of 74.29% with Pep in charge and they won the Bundesliga (one of the top 3 best leagues in the world) in MARCH (first club to ever do it that early). They've won 24 out of 30 league games and have scored 77 goals and have only conceded 13 times. They won 19 league games on the trot (scoring 63 goals in that time, including a 7-0 away win at Werder Bremen). They're a mindbogglingly good side.

Les-TA-Jon Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Imagine how good it'd be though to have: - Mourinho - LVG - Guardiola - Klopp All in the same division
purpleronnie Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 I guess we'll see if he really is any good, Man city will be his first real test.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 12 May 2015 Posted 12 May 2015 Attention seeking at its finest Not at all, I just think he was fortunate enough to have the best team in history at barca... same at Munich but they have gone backwards a little since he arrived.. Guess Man City if he does take it will be the first time when something actually needs to be built by him
